Vision-based neural networks as artificial intelligence models have been critical in many manufacturing industries, including automotive, food, and aerospace. Machine vision and deep learning have provided practical, promising, and accessible innovations to address many problems during manufacturing and diagnostics. Recent studies offer beneficial results in implementing industrial artificial intelligence systems that require determining, comparing, and evaluating optimal technological solutions. The aerospace industry has to deal with the problem of diagnosing critical components that continually need the expertise of a trained human being. On the other hand, automatic diagnostics are becoming a critical technology to deal with this problem. However, these systems require a particular configuration of computer vision algorithms which, in the case of turbine trench-filling components, have yet to be added to the literature. Considering the above, we report in this paper a new methodology that uses a pre-trained deep neural network framework available online to automatically diagnose geometric nonconformities in aeronautical components that protect the turbines from vibrations and reduce noise from the engines to the aircraft deck. The method is based on the following stages: a computer vision system with a monochrome camera to acquire images, training of deep neural networks with transfer learning, and a stage to analyze nonconformities automatically. In addition, a benchmark of several pre-trained deep neural networks is presented to address the problem. According to the experimental results, the YOLO deep neural network topology significantly contributes to automatic diagnosis with high precision and exact rate. Finally, we show that integrating deep neural networks with control graphs is a promising strategy to optimize online diagnostics in the production lines of the aeronautical industry. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland

Physical control systems are increasingly controlled by reconfigurable, network-enabled devices to increase flexibility and ease commissioning and maintenance. Such capability creates vulnerabilities. Devices may be remotely reprogrammed by a malicious actor to act in unintended ways, causing physical damage to mechanical equipment, infrastructure, and life and limb. In this paper, past examples of actual damage to cyber-physical systems are shown, threats posed by software-controlled variable frequency drives (VFDs) are analyzed, and a small-scale version of an attack on ubiquitous VFD equipment is demonstrated. © 2014 IEEE.

A major activity performed by the manager before starting a software project is tailoring its development process. Such activity requires information about the context under which the project will be executed, including organizational, project, and team characteristics. In addition, it also requires pondering many factors and evaluating all existing constraints. In this scenario, we claim that a balance between collaboration and discipline can be the drivers to tailor software development processes in order to meet project and organization needs. With the purpose of facilitating this balancing, it is possible to automate some of the steps to solve the problem, reducing the effort required to execute this task and improving the obtained process. Therefore, this work presents an optimization-based approach where the balancing in process tailoring is defined, modeled and briefly analyzed. This approach uses collaboration and discipline as utility functions to select the most appropriate process for a software development project, considering its current context. © 2010 IEEE.

This paper investigates the classification of low probability of intercept (LPI) radar signals by exploiting the intrinsic advantages of the Vision Transformer (ViT). Due to the characteristics of LPI radar signals, such as intrapulse modulation, wide frequency bands, and low transmission power, these signals are challenging to be detected and classified using traditional analytic methods. This has led to the adoption of various deep learning techniques to overcome these limitations. On the one hand, the ViT, originally developed for natural language processing, has demonstrated outstanding performance in computer vision by replacing the structure of the convolutional neural network (CNN) with the transformer, specifically leveraging self-attention. Therefore, this paper explores a method based on the ViT technique for classifying LPI signal images. The simulation results show that the proposed ViT method outperforms the traditional CNN method by 12.8% at -10dB SNR. © 2023 IEEE.

It is common knowledge that the decision of an individual regarding adoption of a product or technology is, more often than not, heavily influenced by their friends and acquaintances. In real world, there are different competing products and innovations that try to garner as many loyal followers as possible. Over the past few years, there has been a significant interest in the research community to study social network problems with a flavor of competition. Such problems often focus on identification of a set of people in a given social network by the competing players in order to achieve some goal. In this paper, we introduce the weighted Segregating Vertex Set (wSVS) problem, in which we are given a weighted undirected graph with a subset of nodes identified as the seedset of the first player and the goal for the second player is to identify a subset of nodes (firewall) of minimum cumulative weight, such that the total weight of the nodes reachable by the first player is strictly less than the total weight of the nodes not reachable by the first player. Thus, the second player tries to contain the reach of the first player within the social network community. This problem is also relevant for containment of disease in epidemiology, containment of forest fire and several other domains. We prove that this problem is NP-complete and provide an optimal solution through the use of Mixed Integer Linear programming. We also provide a heuristic solution for the wSVS problem and show its efficacy through detailed experimentation. Our heuristic solution delivers near optimal solution in lesser time compared to that needed to find the optimal solution.

This study examines the mapping of research data on digital technology in the field of health education using bibliometric analysis method. Data was collected by identifying keywords in the Scopus database and sorting them out to sort the studies from the last 10 years (2012-2021). Through this step, a total of 1482 documents were obtained (articles, journals, proceedings, books, and others). The data is then processed using the VOSViewer instrument to obtain a visualization of the mapping analysis. This study also analyzes the network types of authors and co-authors through the VOSViewer instrument. The result of this study indicates that the most document types published within ten years are Articles (66.5%), Review (22.9%), Conference Paper (4.2%), and others. The most studied subjects are Medicine (55.7%), Nursing (9.0%), Health Professions (8.2%), Social sciences (7.8%), engineering (3.9%), computer science (2.6%), Environmental science (2.6%), Biochemistry-Genetics and Molecular Biology (2.2%), Psychology (1.6%), and Dentistry (1.3%). This study offers a written communication process and the nature and direction of developing descriptive means of counting and analyzing the various phases of communication as well as recognizing the authorship and direction of its symptoms in documents on the subject of digital technology in the health sector. © 2022 IEEE.

In Intelligent Networks (IN), processing of services is taken out of the switches and placed (as "middleware") in separated and distributed computer nodes. Thus, "service integrators" (and not only equipment manufacturers or network operators) can design, deploy and administrate telecom processes tailored to the specific needs of targeted customers (individuals or groups). Education is centered on communications, so IN can be used to enhance learning management systems (LMS), with no space boundaries and in total compliance with community goals. Proprietary IN platforms are used mostly by telecom operators, but open source platforms, using Java APIs (e.g. Mobicents) are nowadays available for educational service creation in universities - which represents the subject of this paper.

The U.S. Air Force is currently in the process of building an Airborne Network (AN), where the nodes are a set of heterogeneous, highly mobile, Airborne Networking Platforms (ANPs) - such as satellites, airplanes and unmanned aerial vehicles. Mobility pattern of nodes in a mobile network has significant impact on the coverage and connectivity properties of the network. The level of reliability needed for continuous operation of an AN may be difficult to achieve through a completely infrastructure-less mobile ad hoc networks. In an earlier paper, we proposed an architecture for an AN where a set of ANPs form the backbone of the AN. In this architecture, the ANPs may be viewed as mobile base stations with predictable and well-structured flight paths and the combat aircrafts on a mission as mobile clients. In this paper we consider the AN scenario where a part of the network might not be operational due to enemy attack and/or jamming. We consider faults that are spatially correlated (or region-based), that is faults due to an enemy attack are confined to a region. The goal is to design a robust AN so that no matter which region in the deployment area fails and at what time, the surviving nodes of the network will remain connected and be able to communicate with each other. We propose an algorithm that finds the minimum transmission range necessary to ensure network connectivity irrespective of location of the fault region and the time of the failure.

Poverty is considered a serious global issue that must be immediately eradicated by Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 1, namely ending poverty anywhere and in any form. As a developing country, poverty is a complex issue faced by Indonesia. Tackling poverty in Indonesia has become a key focus of the government’s strategic priorities. This issue of poverty is experienced by all provinces in Indonesia, including Central Java. The poverty rate in Central Java stands at 10.77% or 3.79 million people. The causes of poverty are explained by several factors. Using these various factors, a mapping model can be conducted to determine the number of poor populations in Central Java. This research employs Geographically Weighted Regression (GWR) and Mixed Geographically Weighted Regression (MGWR) approaches to compare the effectiveness of these models in analyzing the number of poor populations in Central Java in 2023. The kernel function weighting used in this study is Fixed Gaussian. The results showed that the MGWR model outperformed both the OLS regression and GWR models, achieving an Akaike Information Criterion (AIC) of 62.766, an R2 of 82.3%, and a Mean Squared Error (MSE) of 0.177. Consequently, it can be inferred that the MGWR model was more suitable for explaining the poverty levels in Central Java. © (2024), (International Association of Engineers). All Rights Reserved.
