Software Ecosystems (SECOs) have emerged as an approach to improve Software engineering (SE) in industry considering relations among companies and stakeholders. Companies have opened up their platforms and artifacts to others, including partners and third-part developers. Thus, systems architecture, businesses and social networks should be understood in an integrated way. This concern motivated an initial proposal of a framework for SECOs engineering in order to outline a set of steps that combines three different dimensions of SECOs and joins different perspectives in SECOs research literature through a survey. In this paper, the focus is on the second dimension, business. A preliminary analysis carried out on a Software Reuse Lab's SECO at coppe/UFRJ points out that concepts explored by researchers can be merged in a broader SE approach. Copyright © 2011 ACM.

The essence of the software ecosystem concept encourages external developers to interact with a software platform, enabling them to contribute or evolve such platform. Trying to expand a product into a platform on which components, services and applications can be created, a company may provide the basis for an ecosystem and its life cycle. In this paper, we describe the evolution process of an application towards an ecosystem using current models and taking into account the reuse of an existing software system. The application DiaDia has been developed for smartphones and its main function consists in helping the treatment of diabetic patients. Two different models are used to discuss the transition of the application to an ecosystem: one is an adaptation of the Software Supply Network which represents the main actors that interact with the ecosystem, and the other covers the process of creating an application and its evolution to an ecosystem through Business Process Model and Notation. © 2013 ACM.

Speculative Multithreading (SpMT) increases the performance by means of executing multiple threads speculatively to exploit thread-level parallelism. By combining software and hardware approaches, we have improved the capabilities of previous WaveScalar ISA on the basis of Transactional Memory system for the WaveCache Architecture. Threads are extracted at the course of static compiling, and speculatively executed as a thread-level transaction that is supported by extra hardware components, such as Thread-Context-Table (TCT) and Thread-Memory-History (TMH). We have evaluated the SpMT WaveCache with 6 real benchmarks from SPEC, Mediabench and Mibench. On the whole, the SpMT WaveCache outperforms superscalar architecture ranging from 2X to 3X, and great performance gains are achieved over original WaveCache and Transactional WaveCache as well. © 2008 IEEE.

Economic and social issues were pointed out as Software engineering (SE) challenges for the next years, since the field needs to treat issues beyond the technical side, which requires observing it in another perspective. In this sense, Software Ecosystems (SECOs) have emerged as an approach to improve software reuse in global software development (GSD) industry considering relations among companies and stakeholders around the world. Companies and organizations have opened up their platforms and artifacts to others, including partners and third-part developers. This scenario changes the traditional software industry and requires mature research in software architecture, component-based software engineering and software product line (SPL) in a global market and business environment. So, GSD requires linking an architectural, a business and a social-based environment in an integrated way, as well as a focus on SECO-based management and engineering. This concern motivated a proposal of a "3+1" framework for SECOs management and engineering called Reuse ECOS. The approach aims at outlining a set of steps that combines those three dimensions and joins different perspectives in SECOs literature from a survey through a research strategy and a solution proposal for GSD with SECO and SPL. It was observed that SECO concepts can be merged in a broader GSD approach in SE industry. © 2012 IEEE.

OBJECTIVE: To propose a conceptual framework that supports the identification of the level of adherence of software projects regarding ubiquitous computing METHOD: To run systematic reviews to characterize 1) ubiquitous computing, 2) its main features and 3) its specific requirements RESULTS: Fifty seven papers were analyzed regarding: (1) the ubiquitous computing definition, (2) ubiquitous applications, and, (3) 10 dimensions characterizing ubiquitous applications To complement these results, other systematic review was accomplished In this case, fifty nine papers were analyzed identifying a set of 123 functional and 45 nonfunctional requirements associated to the ubiquitous dimensions CONCLUSIONS: It is possible to have a common perspective to work with the ubiquitous software engineering area including the definition for ubiquitous computing and ubiquitous dimensions, and functional and non-functional requirements associated to each ubiquitous dimension Therefore, a conceptual framework to classify software projects according to the adherence to the ubiquity perspective has been organized and discussed in this work.

This paper addresses an approach to behavior testing in object-oriented systems. This approach is used in the MEMPHIS project [1] and emphasis on state-based testing. The key elements are the generation of testing sequences based on the State Transition Diagram to test the system objects and the creation of testing-scenarios, which allow the verification of object integration. © 1998 IEEE.

Software Ecosystem (SECO) is often understood as a set of actors interacting among themselves and manipulating artifacts with the support of a common technology platform. SECO can represent an environment in which the component repository is gathering stakeholders, and software products and components. By manipulating software artifacts, a technical network emerges from component repositories that support Software Reuse. Those repositories often lack resources to support actors' relationships. Introducing social resources in SECO aims at stimulating actors' interactions, information exchange and better understanding on how artifacts are manipulated in such social relations. In this paper, we focus on investigating SECO representing component repositories that include socio-technical resources. A survey with experts was planned and executed. The goal was to identify the relevance of each resource for a SECO based on component repositories, initially focused on the Brazilian scenario. This paper also describes the analysis of the data collected in this survey. Some information of other SECO elements extracted from the data is also presented, e.g., the participants' profile and how they behave within a SECO. © 2015 ACM.

The Metaverse is very challenging to implement solutions for eXtended Reality applications (XR apps), due to the combination of complex concerns that should be addressed: multiple users with non-traditional input and output devices, different hardware platforms that should be addressed, forceful interactive rates, and experimental interaction techniques, among other issues. Therefore, this work aims to present a Software Product Line (SPL)-based approach to support the development of Web XR apps. More specifically, we define a features model that represents similarities and variables (domain analysis);we defined a core composed of generic and reusable software artifacts (domain design);and we developed an interface to support the instantiation of a Web XR app family, named MetaSee Features Model Editor (domain implementation). This approach integrates with a component of the MetaSEE architecture (Metaverse for Software engineering Education). A preliminary assessment found that Features Model has conceptual consistency from the point of view of the complexity of Web XR Apps multimodal interaction. As future work, features model and artifacts will be increased with improvements and an evaluation with a significant number of participants will be performed. © 2022 IEEE.

We have proposed a checklist-based usability inspection technique (WDP - Web Design Perspectives-Based Usability Evaluation) specific for Web applications' usability evaluation and we are following an experimentation-based methodology to support its development and improvement. This paper describes an observational study conducted, aimed at eliciting how inspectors apply the WDP technique. We discuss the quantitative and qualitative results of the result and their impact on improving the WDP technique. We analyzed the qualitative data using the procedures from the Grounded Theory (GT) method. © 2009 IEEE.
