Recess gate etching is a critical technique for achieving enhancement-mode (E-mode) AlGaN/GaN high-electron mobility transistors (HEMTs) because the interface is susceptible to the etching damage. This study fabricates recess gates using the neutral beam etching (NBE) technique. By adjusting the aperture thickness in the NBE apparatus, we simulate both NB-mode and plasma-mode etching. The electrical characteristics of E-mode HEMTs fabricated using these two modes are analyzed and compared through DC, noise, and pulsed IV measurements. The results demonstrate that NB-recessed HEMTs exhibit superior performance. © 1980-2012 IEEE.

Solar-driven carbon dioxide reduction reaction(CO_(2)RR)provides an oppor tunity to produce value-added chemical feedstocks and ***,achieving efficient and stable photoelectrochemical(PEC)CO_(2)RR into selec tive products is challenging owing to the difficulties associated with the optical and the electrical configuration of PEC devices and electrocatalyst ***,we construct an efficient,concentrated sunlight-driven CO_(2)RR setup consisting of InGaP/GaAs/Ge triple-junction cell as a photoanode and oxide-derived Au(Ox-Au)as a cathode to perform the unassisted PEC CO_(2)*** one-sun illumination,a maximum operating current density of 11.5 mA cm^(-2) with an impressive Faradaic efficiency(FE)of~98%is achieved for carbon monoxide(CO)production,leading to a solar-to-fuel conversion efficiency of~15%.Under concentrated intensity of 10 sun,the photoanode records a maximum current density of~124 mAcm^(-2) and maintains~60%of FE for CO *** results demonstrate crucial advancements in usingⅢ-Ⅴbased photoanodes for concentrated PEC CO_(2)RR.

Water leakage in distribution networks is a significant challenge, especially in regions with limited infrastructure like Huancayo, Peru, where losses account for 32.82% of the distributed volume. This study introduces a machine learning-based approach to detect leaks using four algorithms: Autoencoder LSTM, Isolation Forest, One-Class SVM, and K-Nearest Neighbors (KNN). The methodology involved preprocessing historical consumption data (2018–2024) into 12-month temporal sequences per client and evaluating the models based on F1 Score, Precision, and Mean Absolute Error (MAE). Among the algorithms, the Autoencoder LSTM demonstrated superior performance with the highest precision (0.89) and the lowest MAE (0.00402). Its robustness in high-variability contexts enables early and reliable leak detection, providing a cost-effective solution for optimizing water management in resource-constrained environments.

Glaucoma is a leading cause of blindness, affecting millions of people worldwide. It is a chronic eye condition that damages the optic nerve and, if left untreated, can lead to vision loss and a decreased quality of life. Therefore, there is a need to explore practical and reliable mechanisms for glaucoma identification. This study systematically reviews deep-learning approaches for glaucoma identification using retinal fundus images from 2018 to 2024. Compared to existing survey studies, we cover the latest research, including several public retinal fundus image datasets, and focus on segmentation, classification based on convolutional neural networks and vision transformers, and explainability. The findings of this study, including comparisons of existing methods and key insights, will assist researchers and developers in identifying the most suitable techniques for glaucoma detection. © 2025 The Authors

Distributed storage of data files in different nodes of a network enhances its fault tolerance capability by offering protection against node and link failures. Reliability is often achieved through redundancy in one of the following two ways: (i) storage of multiple copies of the entire file at different locations (nodes) or (ii) storage of file segments (not entire files) at different node locations. In the (N, K) file distribution scheme, N file segments from a file F are created in such a way that it is possible to reconstruct the entire file, just by accessing any K ≤ N segments. For the reconstruction scheme to work, it is essential that the K segments of the file are stored in nodes that are connected in the network. However, in the event of node/link failures, the network might become disconnected (i.e., split into several connected components). We focus on node failures that are spatially correlated or region based. Such failures are often encountered in disaster situations or natural calamities where only the nodes in the disaster zone are affected. The first goal of this research is to design a least cost file storage scheme to ensure that no matter which region is destroyed;resulting in fragmentation of the network, a largest connected component of the residual network will have enough file segments with which to reconstruct the entire file. In case the least cost to ensure this objective is within the allocated budget, the storage design will be all region fault-tolerant (ARFT). In case the least cost exceeds the allocated budget, design of an ARFT file storage system design is impossible. The second goal of this research is to design file storage schemes that will be maximum region fault-tolerant within the allocated budget. The critical infrastructures of a nation including the power grid and the communication network are highly interdependent. Recognizing the need for a deeper understanding of the interdependency in a multi-layered network, significant efforts have been made by the research community in the last few years to achieve this goal. Accordingly a number of models have been proposed and analyzed. Unfortunately, most of the models are over simplified and, as such, they fail to capture the complex interdependency that exists between entities of the power grid and the communication networks involving a combination of conjunctive and disjunctive relations. To overcome the limitations of existing models, we propose a new model that is able to capture such complex interdependency relations. Utilizing this model, we provide techniques to identify the K most 'vulnerable' nodes of an interdependent network. We show that the problem can be solved in polynomial time in some special cases, whereas for some others, the problem is NP-complete. We establish that this problem is equivalent to computation of a fixed point of a multilayered network system and we provide a technique for its computation utilizing Integer Linear programming. Finally, we evaluate the efficacy of our technique using real data collected from the power grid and the communication network that span the Maricopa County of Arizona. © 2014 IEEE.

Robustness or fault-tolerance capability of a network is an important design parameter in both wired and wireless networks. Connectivity of a network is traditionally considered to be the primary metric for evaluation of its fault-tolerance capability. However, connectivity (G) (for random faults) or region-based connectivity R(G) (for spatially correlated or region-based faults, where the faults are confined to a region R) of a network G, does not provide any information about the network state, (i.e., whether the network is connected or not) once the number of faults exceeds (G) or R(G). If the number of faults exceeds (G) or R(G), one would like to know, (i) the number of connected components into which G decomposes, (ii) the size of the largest connected component, (iii) the size of the smallest connected component. In this paper, we introduce a set of new metrics that computes these values. We focus on one particular metric called region-based component decomposition number (RBCDN), that measures the number of connected components in which the network decomposes once all the nodes of a region fail. We study the computational complexity of finding RBCDN of a network. In addition, we study the problem of least cost design of a network with a target value of RBCDN. We show that the optimal design problem is NP-complete and present an approximation algorithm with a performance bound of O(log K + 4log n), where n denotes the number of nodes in the graph and K denotes a target value of RBCDN. We evaluate the performance of our algorithm by comparing it with the performance of the optimal solution. Experimental results demonstrate that our algorithm produces near optimal solution in a fraction of time needed to find an optimal solution. © 2011 IEEE.

Background: The adoption of Agile methods has grown significantly and now almost all software companies state that they are using some aspects of Agile in their software processes. However, the introduction of Agile methods into a software development environment is not a straightforward process. Thus, Agility Assessment (AA) is an important tool that supports the evaluation of how well a company has adopted the agile approach. Problem: Agility Assessment is usually a manual process and there are few automatic steps during the various phases. Part of this limitation arises because the requirements to check the agility of a project/company are still described in natural language and spread across many sources of documents such as manifestos and company policies. Aim: The aim of this paper is to organize the body of knowledge related to Agile Methods and identify a set of requirements that can be used in an Agility Assessment process. We extend the metaphor of a bad smell to an Agility Assessment context and propose the term Bad Agile Smell to describe an early warning signal that something in an agile project may need to be adjusted. Method: A literature review, as well a survey with practitioners, were conducted to identify a set of Agility Bad Smells. The resulting set of identified Agility Bad Smells is presented as a structured catalog. Result: We identified a set of 20 Bad Agile Smells for agile methods that were considered relevant according to research criteria. The purpose of this research is to present an improved project method and the results obtained in its use for the application work of the electrical machines course of an electronic engineering program of the Pedro Ruiz Gallo National University of Lambayeque in Peru. Previously, from 2013 to 2018, the project method was used, and based on these experiences, a proj ect method was prepared with greater detail of the activities and deliverables in each phase of the method, the results are better information, planning and organization by part of the students and a better evaluation by the facilitator, who acts as a referee and not as a coach as in traditional vocational training. The improved project method that has been applied in the 2019-11 semester and completed the validation in the 2023 semesters, due to the COVID 19 quarantine in the years 2020 to 2022, no real application work was carried out. In order to train professionals with new skills, vocational training must be innovated with new teaching-learning modes, such as the project method. The projects carried out in 2019-11 gave 4 very good projects: Automotive alternator as direct current generator, DC generator based on a DC motor, Construction of a windshield wiper system, Construction of a single-phase induction motor;2 good projects and 5 regular projects. © 2024 IEEE.

Agile Software Development is an important paradigm in the software engineering community and a significant movement in the software industry. According to Version One Survey 2018[28], 97% of the surveyed organizations are using some aspect of agile practices. However, the adoption of agile practices is not a straightforward task and there are many open questions related to agile methods that the academic community is trying to answer. One of the challenges of academic research related to Agile Software Development is the lack of metamodels to support the representation of agile projects. A preliminary investigation conducted in this study revealed that existing software development metamodels focus on representing elements related to software process definition and neglect aspects related to software project execution such as Iterations, Deliveries and Task Instances. This study aims at investigating how existing software development metamodels support the representation of agile software development projects and how they can be extended to fill possible gaps. To achieve this goal, we first identified a set of concepts, entities, and information related to agile projects. Then, we investigated how existing software development metamodels represent the identified elements. Finally, we proposed a metamodel, that we named Agile Software Development Project Metamodel (ASDPM), which contains the elements necessary to represent agile software development projects. © XXII Ibero-American Conference on Software engineering, CIbSE 2019.
