During the last two decades, interest in grid integrated renewable energy sources (RERs) into the electrical power grids has significantly grown. The motive being a promising strategy to reduce greenhouse gas emissions generated by conventional power plants (CPPs) and hence environmental consequences, decrease losses in distribution lines to improve power system supply efficiency and reliability to consumers. As a result, several CPPs are being replaced by RERs such as solar PV system, wind energy, micro hydro-turbine, fuel cell, and small gas power plants. These are installed close to customers on low-voltage and medium-voltage sites to reduce losses in the network and improve power quality, overall efficiency and reliability. However, grid-connected RERs via inverter decreases system inertia due to decrease in CPPs with rotating mass serving as an immediate natural response to frequency deviations following network disturbances. Therefore, this paper presents the design of dynamic virtual-inertia control (DVIC) scheme. The developed DVIC incorporates the mechanism to adjust active and reactive demand in response to any frequency and voltage variations to ensure system stability. To validate the suitability of the presented technique, MATLAB/Simulink model is developed and simulated under various operating scenarios. Using the results obtained simulation study, it is evidently the proposed DVIC shows improved performance is achieved than when no inertia control system applied. © 2025 IEEE.

Sensor network localization (SNL) is a challenging problem due to its inherent non-convexity and the effects of noise in inter-node ranging measurements and anchor node position. We formulate a non-convex SNL problem as a multiplayer non-convex potential game and investigate the existence and uniqueness of a Nash equilibrium (NE) in both the ideal setting without measurement noise and the practical setting with measurement noise. We first show that the NE exists and is unique in the noiseless case, and corresponds to the precise network localization. Then, we study the SNL for the case with errors affecting the anchor node position and the inter-node distance measurements. Specifically, we establish that in case these errors are sufficiently small, the NE exists and is unique. It is shown that the NE is an approximate solution to the SNL problem, and that the position errors can be quantified accordingly. Based on these findings, we apply the results to case studies involving only inter-node distance measurement errors and only anchor position information inaccuracies.

This paper introduces a new variational Gaussian filtering approach for estimating the state of a nonlinear dynamic system. We first assume that the predictive distribution of the state is Gaussian and derive an iterative method for updating the state posterior in the natural parameter space through KullbackLeibler divergence minimization. The obtained update rule is the same as that of the conjugate-computation variational inference technique in Bayesian learning. The derivation here is simpler and more insightful. We then impose a Wishart prior on the inverse of the state prediction covariance to take into account the impact of approximating the state predictive distribution using a Gaussian density on the state posterior estimation. The prediction covariance is identified jointly with the state using variational inference and the established state posterior update rule to achieve the desired Gaussian filtering. Simulation study examines the performance of the proposed filtering framework in target tracking based on bearing and range measurements.

The conditional Lyapunov exponents and synchronisation of rotating turbulent flows

The synchronisation between rotating turbulent flows in periodic boxes is investigated numerically. The flows are coupled via a master-slave coupling, taking the Fourier modes with wavenumber below a given value km as the master modes. It is found that synchronisation happens when km exceeds a threshold value kc, and kc depends strongly on the forcing scheme. In rotating Kolmogorov flows, kcη does not change with rotation in the range of rotation rates considered, η being the Kolmogorov length scale. Even though the energy spectrum has a steeper slope, the value of kcη is the same as that found in isotropic turbulence. In flows driven by a forcing term maintaining constant energy injection rate, synchronisation becomes easier when rotation is stronger. kcη decreases with rotation, and it is reduced significantly for strong rotations when the slope of the energy spectrum approaches −3. It is shown that the conditional Lyapunov exponent for a given km is reduced by rotation in the flows driven by the second type of forcing, but it increases mildly with rotation for the Kolmogorov flows. The local conditional Lyapunov exponents fluctuate more strongly as rotation is increased, although synchronisation occurs as long as the average conditional Lyapunov exponents are negative. We also look for the relationship between kc and the energy spectra of the Lyapunov vectors. We find that the spectra always seem to peak around kc, and synchronisation fails when the energy spectra of the conditional Lyapunov vectors have a local maximum in the slaved modes. This paper considers the problem of approximating the infinite-horizon value function of the discrete-time switched LQR problem. In particular, we propose a new value iteration method to generate a sequence of monotonically decreasing functions that converges exponentially to the value function. This method facilitates us to use coarse approximations resulting from faster but less accurate algorithms for further value iteration, and thus, our method is capable of achieving a better approximation for a given computation time compared with the existing methods. Two numerical examples are presented in this paper to illustrate the effectiveness of our method.

Epilepsy is a medical problem that tackles lots of patients. It limits the life activity of such patients due to the seizures that occur anytime and anywhere. Thus, creating a monitoring system that could make their life easier and allow them to perform daily life activities as safe as possible has been studied. This paper is a continuity for a project where a system monitors epileptic patients using a set of wearable sensors connected to several processing units, the main sensors are Electroencephalogram (EEG) for the electrical activity of the brain, electrocardiogram (ECG) for the electrical activity of the heart, and accelerometers to monitor the posture of the patient, features extracted from EEG and ECG signals are used for prediction/detection of seizures. Thus, the objective of this paper is to present a comparative study in order to choose the appropriate classification method for seizure prediction and detection. Five classification methods were studied: Decision Trees, Discriminant Analysis, Support Vector Machine (SVM), K-Nearest Neighbor (KNN), and Ensemble Learning. For each of the classification methods, the accuracy, the specificity, the sensitivity, the precision, the false detection rate and the Fmeasure were studied and compared. The results for seizure prediction system show that the highest accuracy, specificity and F-Measure, and lowest false detection rate were achieved with Bagged Trees Ensemble Learning, the highest sensitivity and precision were achieved with Quadratic Support Vector Machine. However, for seizure detection system, the highest accuracy and F-Measure were achieved with Linear Support Vector, the highest sensitivity and specificity were achieved with Fine Gaussian Support Vector Machine, and the highest precision and lowest false detection rate were achieved with Subspace Discriminant Ensemble Learning. © 2020 IEEE.

In this paper, we revisit the problem of enlarging the domain of attraction for linear systems with asymmetric actuator saturation. We partition the state space into several regions according to the sign of each input and rewrite the linear system subject to asymmetric actuator saturation as an equivalent switched system, each subsystem of which is associated with one partition of the state space and is a linear system subject to symmetric actuator saturation. Based on this equivalent representation of the system, we present a Lyapunov function, which is composed of a set of quadratic functions associated with matrices that are not required to be positive definite. We establish sufficient conditions for regional stability and, based on them, formulate optimization problems to enlarge the estimate of the domain of attraction. Simulation results illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed approach.

This study is concerned with a control system design method with frequency response data named a finite number of frequency responses(an FNFR) model. In this paper a numerical descent direction is introduced and an iterative method for solving control problems formulated with the FNFR model is proposed with the descent direction. One feature of our approach is to update controller variables so that they approach to a feasible region of considering control problems from the outside. The efficiency of our method is shown by numerical examples.

An investigation area of interest including the use of blockchain technology to address Internet of Things security concerns (IoT). Despite the fact that numerous relevant ideas have been offered, there are few published works that provide hypothetical and information backing. The examination of model building and execution assessment is the focus of this research. First, an IoT security paradigm is outlined, using blockchain and the Inter-Planetary-File-system (IPFS) in a view. Many of the security risks associated with traditional IoT designs can be avoided with this paradigm, and framework execution is entirely focused on distributed large limit stockpiling, simultaneity, and query. In addition, the suggested model's display is evaluated using normal idleness and throughput, which are important for further investigation and enhancement of this course. The blockchain-based security model's feasibility has been demonstrated via analysis and experiments. © 2022 IEEE.
