Dual Encoder Cross-Shape Transformer Network for Medical Image Segmentation in Internet of Medical Things for Consumer Health

In emerging consumer healthcare, high-performance and robust medical image segmentation methods are essential for personalized diagnosis and treatment. Thus, early screening of aneurysms reduces the risk of aneurysm rupture and provides therapeutic and preventive measures. However, uncontrollable factors such as uncertainty in the size and location shape of tumors in medical images a significant challenge to medical image segmentation. These factors make extracting high-quality features from aneurysm images difficult, resulting in poor segmentation. Then, we designed a dual encoder cross-shape transform network (DECSTNet) to capture aneurysm feature information. The dual encoder structure can extract aneurysm feature information at different scales, the adaptive dynamic feature fusion module can fuse features at different scales between the encoders, and the cross-shape window transform layer can compute the width and height of the image in parallel for local self-attention, which enhances the interactive capability of the telematic information while realizing the complementarity of the local information. Through extensive experiments, we demonstrate the excellent segmentation performance of DECSTNet on the private and three public datasets. Noteworthy our method has significant segmentation performance and fewer parameters, making it well-suited to be deployed on IoMT diagnostic platforms for medical image segmentation to promote healthy patient consumption. © 2025 IEEE.

This paper presents an analysis of a data set to determine the factors influencing airline passenger satisfaction. The study examines various criteria such as gender, customer type, age, travel type, class, and range to assess their impact on passenger satisfaction. The dataset consists of 25 columns, including attributes like Wi-Fi availability, convenience of online booking, seat comfort, in-flight entertainment, baggage handling, and overall satisfaction. The sample is relatively balanced, with equal representation of men and women, predominantly repeat customers, and a majority flying for business purposes. Key findings include a strong correlation between departure and arrival delays, higher satisfaction among passengers in business class, and positive ratings for Wi-Fi service correlating with overall satisfaction. Correlation analysis reveals interdependencies between different attributes, such as the influence of cleanliness on seat comfort and food and beverage ratings. In addition, a neural network forecasting model is used to estimate the average ratings of passengers, although with low accuracy, which was later excluded. Finally, a decision tree algorithm is utilized to identify the most significant attributes affecting passenger satisfaction words. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2024.

The study, published in the journal Nature Medicine, looked at data on 1,000 people from China who were tracked over an average period of six years. The participants were divided into two groups: those who lived in areas with high levels of air pollution and those who lived in areas with low levels of air pollution. The study analyzed data on patients with lung cancer, including their age, gender, exposure to air pollution, alcohol consumption, dust allergy, occupational hazards, genetic risk, chronic lung disease, balanced diet, obesity, smoking, passive smoking, chest pain, cough, hemoptysis, fatigue, weight loss, shortness of breath, wheezing, difficulty swallowing, nail thickening and snoring. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2024.

The electroencephalogram (EEG) serves as a significant tool in the realms of clinical medicine, cerebral investigation, and neurological disorders research. However, the EEG records we obtain are often easily contaminated by various artifacts, which can blur or distort the underlying EEG signals and make data interpretation difficult. Generally speaking, removing EEG artifacts is considered an essential step in brain signal analysis. Therefore, removing artifacts is crucial for obtaining accurate and reliable EEG signals for subsequent analysis. Recently, deep learning techniques have found widespread application across various domains for denoising tasks, including image denoising and EEG denoising. Many advanced algorithms have been developed in image denoising, which has achieved good results in enhancing low-quality images. Moreover, it has shown superior performance in EEG denoising. In contrast, few people have devoted themselves to studying EEG denoising, and existing convolutional neural network EEG denoising methods still have problems of overfitting and poor denoising effect in Electromyograph(EMG) and ElectroOculoGram(EOG) artifact removal. Therefore, this paper proposes a method called DWINet (De-artifacting with Image-based Network for EEG Signals) based on an image dehazing network DRHNet for removing artifacts from EEG signals. Specifically, our approach DWINet, addresses the de-artifacting issue in EEG signals by converting it as an image dehazing problem and utilizes the image dehazing capability of DRHNet to enhance the denoising performance of EEG signals. Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed method outperforms the compared algorithms in removing the ocular artifact in EEG signals and exhibits higher accuracy and robustness. © 2024, J. The distributed optimization algorithm proposed by J. Wang and N. Elia in 2010 has been shown to achieve linear convergence for multi-agent systems with single-integrator dynamics. This paper extends their result, including the linear convergence rate, to a more complex scenario where the agents have heterogeneous multi-input multi-output linear dynamics and are subject to external disturbances and parametric uncertainties. Disturbances are dealt with via an internal-model-based control design, and the interaction among the tracking error dynamics, average dynamics, and dispersion dynamics is analyzed through a composite Lyapunov function and the cyclic small-gain theorem. The key is to ensure a small enough stepsize for the convergence of the proposed algorithm, which is similar to the condition for time-scale separation in singular perturbation theory.

Language-queried target sound extraction (TSE) aims to extract specific sounds from mixtures based on language queries. Traditional fully-supervised training schemes require extensively annotated parallel audio-text data, which are labor-intensive. We introduce a parallel-data-free training scheme, requiring only unlabelled audio clips for TSE model training by utilizing the contrastive language-audio pre-trained model (CLAP). In a vanilla parallel-data-free training stage, target audio is encoded using the pre-trained CLAP audio encoder to form a condition embedding, while during testing, user language queries are encoded by CLAP text encoder as the condition embedding. This vanilla approach assumes perfect alignment between text and audio embeddings, which is unrealistic. Two major challenges arise from training-testing mismatch: the persistent modality gap between text and audio and the risk of overfitting due to the exposure of rich acoustic details in target audio embedding during training. To address this, we propose a retrieval-augmented strategy. Specifically, we create an embedding cache using audio captions generated by a large language model (LLM). During training, target audio embeddings retrieve text embeddings from this cache to use as condition embeddings, ensuring consistent modalities between training and testing and eliminating information leakage. Extensive experiment results show that our retrieval-augmented approach achieves consistent and notable performance improvements over existing state-of-the-art with better generalizability.

YOLO-LLTS: Real-Time Low-Light Traffic Sign Detection via Prior-Guided Enhancement and Multi-Branch Feature Interaction

Detecting traffic signs effectively under low-light conditions remains a significant challenge. To address this issue, we propose YOLO-LLTS, an end-to-end real-time traffic sign detection algorithm specifically designed for low-light environments. Firstly, we introduce the High-Resolution Feature Map for Small Object Detection (HRFM-TOD) module to address indistinct small-object features in low-light scenarios. By leveraging high-resolution feature maps, HRFM-TOD effectively mitigates the feature dilution problem encountered in conventional PANet frameworks, thereby enhancing both detection accuracy and inference speed. Secondly, we develop the Multi-branch Feature Interaction Attention (MFIA) module, which facilitates deep feature interaction across multiple receptive fields in both channel and spatial dimensions, significantly improving the model’s information extraction capabilities. Finally, we propose the Prior-Guided Enhancement Module (PGFE) to tackle common image quality challenges in low-light environments, such as noise, low contrast, and blurriness. This module employs prior knowledge to enrich image details and enhance visibility, substantially boosting detection performance. To support this research, we construct a novel dataset, the Chinese Nighttime Traffic Sign Sample Set (CNTSSS), covering diverse nighttime scenarios, including urban, highway, and rural environments under varying weather conditions. Experimental evaluations demonstrate that YOLO-LLTS achieves state-of-the-art performance, outperforming the previous best methods by 2.7% mAP50 and 1.6% mAP50:95 on TT100K-night, 1.3% mAP50 and 1.9% mAP50:95 on CNTSSS, and achieving superior results on the CCTSDB2021 dataset. This paper examines the properties of output-redundant systems, that is, systems possessing a larger number of outputs than inputs, through the lenses of the geometric approach of Wonham et al. We begin by formulating a simple output allocation synthesis problem, which involves "concealing" input information from a malicious eavesdropper having access to the system output, while still allowing for a legitimate user to reconstruct it. It is shown that the solvability of this problem requires the availability of a redundant set of outputs. This very problem is instrumental to unveiling the fundamental geometric properties of output-redundant systems, which form the basis for our subsequent constructions and results. As a direct application, we demonstrate how output allocation can be employed to effectively protect the information of input information from certain output eavesdroppers with guaranteed results. Sustainability is a pressing global challenge demanding an integrated approach balancing economic, environmental, and social perspectives. Numerous indicators have been proposed in the literature to assess progress toward the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), including equitable and sustainable well-being (BES). To effectively manage and monitor these indicators, robust analytical models are essential. The present study proposed an integrated analytical framework combining the 0–1 (min–max) method and the Technique for Order of Preference by Similarity to Ideal Solution (TOPSIS). The analysis examined 61 indicators from the 2024 Equitable and Sustainable Well-being of the Territories, a dataset developed by the Italian National Institute of Statistics (ISTAT) to assess regional social, economic, and environmental sustainability across Italy. The results confirmed a persistent north–south divide, with average scores of 3.9 in the north and 1.4 in the south on a 1–5 scale, and central Italy demonstrating an intermediate performance of 3.1. At the regional level, Trentino-Alto Adige, Lombardia, and Valle d'Aosta emerged as top performers, while at the territorial level, Milano, Bologna, and Trieste stood out. These insights highlight the need for stronger synergies between territories to enhance competitiveness and elevate “Made in Italy” on the global stage. Effective regional collaboration may optimize resource allocation, harmonize territorial disparities, and accelerate progress toward the SDGs by leveraging local strengths and fostering sustainable development. © 2025 The Author(s)
