Urban air is frequently contaminated with CO, CO2, VOC, HCHO, PM 2.5, and PM 10. Rural regions are at a lower risk than those near roads and industrial areas that produce emissions. Air pollutants negatively affect its inhabitants' health, particularly the respiratory system. Most people will spend more time indoors, requiring a method for monitoring indoor air quality (IAQ). Urban communities need IAQ monitoring instruments as an early warning system for their health. This research seeks to produce inexpensive IAQ that can be utilized by all levels of society, particularly urban communities. This research utilizes a qualitative, design-thinking-based methodology. The research diverged from Empatize, which asserts that urban communities require a method for determining the local air quality. Moreover, it is determined at the define stage that IAQ monitoring, which includes a data log feature, is still comparatively expensive, so a solution is developed at the ideate stage. Creating a prototype is the next step in realizing the specified solution. In this investigation, they decided to use IAQ monitoring, which is relatively inexpensive but lacks log data storage. The author uses the ESP32-cam microcontroller to capture the screen display device, and the resulting image is sent to a telegram and processed with optical character recognition (OCR) to generate a data log. The results of prototype testing are utilized for prototype development.

Trajectory Planning for Autonomous Vehicles combining Nonlinear Optimal control and Supervised Learning ⁎

This paper considers computationally efficient planning of reference trajectories for autonomous on-road vehicles in a cooperative setting. The basic element of the approach is the notion of so-called maneuvers, which allow to cast the nonlinear and non-convex planning task into a highly structured optimal control problem. This can be solved quite efficiently, but not fast enough for online operation when considering nonlinear vehicle models. Therefore, the approach proposed in this paper aims at approximating solutions using a supervised learning approach: First, training data are generated by solving optimal control problems and are then used to train a neural network. As is demonstrated for a cooperative overtaking maneuver, this approach shows good performance, while (contrasting approaches like reinforcement learning) requiring only low training effort.

Efficient Solution of Distributed MILP in control of Networked systems

This paper considers the distributed solution of Mixed-Integer Linear Programming (MILP) problems, a class of problems which is of interest, e.g., in optimization-based control of networked systems involving hybrid dynamics. For a larger number of subsystems, the high combinatorial complexity arising from the integer variables usually prohibits the use of centralized solution schemes, and thus requires distributed computational approaches. The proposed approach is inspired by results based on the Shapley-Folkman-Starr theorem, but it relaxes some conservative assumptions in order to enhance the computational efficiency. Numerical experiments for different MILP problems confirm the advantage of the proposed method with respect to computation times.

Submodularity-based False Data Injection Attack Scheme in Multi-agent Dynamical systems

Consensus in multi-agent dynamical systems is prone to be sabotaged by the adversary, which has attracted much attention due to its key role in broad applications. In this paper, we study a new false data injection (FDI) attack design problem, where the adversary with limited capability aims to select a subset of agents and manipulate their local multi-dimensional states to maximize the consensus convergence error. We first formulate the FDI attack design problem as a combinatorial optimization problem and prove it is NP-hard. Then, based on the submodularity optimization theory, we show the convergence error is a submodular function of the set of the compromised agents, which satisfies the property of diminishing marginal returns. In other words, the benefit of adding an extra agent to the compromised set decreases as that set becomes larger. With this property, we exploit the greedy scheme to find the optimal compromised agent set that can produce the maximum convergence error when adding one extra agent to that set each time. Thus, the FDI attack set selection algorithms are developed to obtain the near-optimal subset of the compromised agents. Furthermore, we derive the analytical suboptimality bounds and the worst-case running time under the proposed algorithms. The growing demand for location-based services in areas like virtual reality, robot control, and navigation has intensified the focus on indoor localization. Visible light positioning (VLP), leveraging visible light communications (VLC), becomes a promising indoor positioning technology due to its high accuracy and low cost. This paper provides a comprehensive survey of VLP systems. In particular, since VLC lays the foundation for VLP, we first present a detailed overview of the principles of VLC. Then, we provide an in-depth overview of VLP algorithms. The performance of each positioning algorithm is also compared in terms of various metrics such as accuracy, coverage, and orientation limitation. Beyond the physical layer studies, the network design for a VLP system is also investigated, including multi-access technologies, resource allocation, and light-emitting diode (LED) placements. Next, the applications of the VLP systems are overviewed. Finally, this paper outlines open issues, challenges, and opportunities for the research field. In a nutshell, this paper constitutes the first holistic survey on VLP from state-of-the-art studies to practical uses. © 1998-2012 IEEE.

Model Predictive control (MPC) has been increasingly adopted by various converters due to its numerous advantages, including fast dynamic response, multi-objective control, and ease of implementation. However, MPC’s variable switching frequency can degrade waveform quality compared to conventional control techniques that utilize proper modulation methods. To address this issue, combining MPC with a PWM technique allows the converter to operate at a fixed switching frequency, resulting in what is known as modulated model predictive control (M2PC). This study proposes an M2PC for a four-leg converter that is coupled with an indirect matrix converter at the input. The proposed M2PC enhances the output waveform quality using a PWM technique for the four-leg converter while maintaining a low fixed switching frequency. The performance of this approach is demonstrated through the implementation of the proposed M2PC technique in the MATLAB/Simulink environment, showing improvements in waveform quality.

At the moment, digital documents are just as important as paper documents. As a result, authenticity is essential, especially in legal situations and digital forensics. As technology advances, these digital signature algorithms become weaker, necessitating the development of digital authentication schemes capable of withstanding current security threats. This study proposed a scheme based on an asymmetric key cryptosystem and the user's biometric credentials to generate keys for digital signatures. A single document can be signed by multiple signatories at the same time under this scheme. The primary goal of this article is to create a safe and cost-effective multiignature scheme. To create keys for document signing and verification, the Edwards-curve Digital Signature Algorithm (EdDSA), especially Ed25519, is employed. The Edwards-curve Digital Signature Algorithm is used with blockchain technology to sign crypto wallets. The Python implementation of a scheme that enables platform independence. We performed performance, security, and comparative analysis to ensure maximum usability. The article's main findings are that the Ed25519 algorithm can be used in blockchain. © 2023 Gauri Shankar et al.

The article puts focus on the the problem of performance assessment for UAV formation with leader-following structure and switching communication topology in the presence of unknown exogenous perturbations. First, two time-varying indicators are devised on the basis of the regulated outputs of the followers. Then, a trainable performance assessment model is constructed by means of belief rule base expert system (BRB) with the two time-varying indicators as the inputs and the assessment utility as the final output. At last, relevant simulation experiments are conducted to validate the practicability of the established performance assessment model for leader-following UAV formation subject to switching communication topology and unknown external perturbations.

Maintaining energy balance and economical operation is significant for multi-energy systems such as the energy hub (EH). However, it is usually challenged by the frequently changing and unpredictable uncertain parameters at different timescales. Under this scope, this paper investigates the coordinated energy management problem for day-ahead and intra-day conditions considering uncertainties of source-load and market prices concurrently. Note that the precise knowledge of distributions about uncertainties may be unaccessible before the decision-making in day-ahead phase. A two-stage chance-constrained model based on distributionally robust approach with ambiguous moment information is proposed to immunize scheduling strategies against the worst-case probability distributions. The first stage is dedicated to obtaining more energy arbitrage and operation flexibility by optimizing bidding strategies in day-ahead power, natural gas and carbon trading markets. The second stage focuses on the optimization of the worst-case expected operation cost. It provides a robust energy equipment and load scheduling strategy for the reference of subsequent intra-day arrangements. With respect to different variations of electrical and thermal components, an intra-day two-timescale coordination is implemented step by step. The energy scheduling is re-dispatched circularly to minimize the operation and penalty costs. The possible energy imbalance is also compensated by this way. As the energy management program is nonlinear, chance-constrained and multi-stage, some linearization and dual transformation techniques are designed to enhance tractability of the program. Experimental results show that the developed multi-level framework results in a carbon emission decrease of 37%, and reduces energy cost averagely 3% compared with corresponding contrasting cases. Global Navigation Satellite systems (GNSS) can provide real-time positioning information for outdoor users, but cannot for indoor scenarios or heavily occluded outdoor scenarios. Strap-down Inertial Navigation system (SINS) are widely used to locate people in complex interior or heavily occluded outdoor scenarios due to its light weight and low power consumption. However, IMU of SINS are noisy, and the sampling data error is large, which is a divergence of the error with time. Therefore, it will generate a positioning accumulation error, which affects the final positioning accuracy. The problem of cumulative IMU errors is usually dealt with by Zero-Velocity Update (ZUPT). The zero-velocity detection part of basic ZUPT method usually uses a single threshold to determine the gait of pedestrian, which often has the problem of gait misjudgment and omission. To address these problems, this paper proposes a composite conditional detection method to solve the problem of misjudgment in the zero-velocity interval. In addition, we redesign the zero-velocity update algorithm and uses the Cubature Kalman filter (CKF) for pedestrian positioning error correction. The experimental results demonstrate that the proposed ZUPT method based on dual-threshold detection can better detect the interval between pedestrian motion and stationery than ones with single threshold. The zero-velocity update algorithm based on CKF has higher performance than conventional EKF and UKF methods, which constrains the cumulative error of SINS to about 0.2% of the whole walking distance.
