Providing seamless connectivity for wireless virtual reality (VR) users has emerged as a key challenge for future cloud-enabled cellular networks. In this paper, the problem of wireless VR resource management is investigated for a wireless VR network in which VR contents are sent by a cloud to cellular small base stations (SBSs). The SBSs will collect tracking data from the VR users, over the uplink, in order to generate the VR content and transmit it to the end-users using downlink cellular links. For this model, the data requested or transmitted by the users can exhibit correlation, since the VR users may engage in the same immersive virtual environment with different locations and orientations. As such, the proposed resource management framework can factor in such spatial data correlation, so as to better manage uplink and downlink traffic. This potential spatial data correlation can be factored into the resource allocation problem to reduce the traffic load in both uplink and downlink. In the downlink, the cloud can transmit 360 contents or specific visible contents (e.g., user field of view) that are extracted from the original 360 contents to the users according to the users' data correlation so as to reduce the backhaul traffic load. In the uplink, each SBS can associate with the users that have similar tracking information so as to reduce the tracking data size. This data correlation-Aware resource management problem is formulated as an optimization problem whose goal is to maximize the users' successful transmission probability, defined as the probability that the content transmission delay of each user satisfies an instantaneous VR delay target. To solve this problem, a machine learning algorithm that uses echo state networks (ESNs) with transfer learning is introduced. We propose a fundamental theorem for eco-environmental surface modelling(FTEEM) in order to apply it into the fields of ecology and environmental science more easily after the fundamental theorem for Earth’s surface system modeling(FTESM). The Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei(BTH) region is taken as a case area to conduct empirical studies of algorithms for spatial upscaling, spatial downscaling, spatial interpolation, data fusion and model-data assimilation, which are based on high accuracy surface modelling(HASM), corresponding with corollaries of FTEEM. The case studies demonstrate how eco-environmental surface modelling is substantially improved when both extrinsic and intrinsic information are used along with an appropriate method of HASM. Compared with classic algorithms, the HASM-based algorithm for spatial upscaling reduced the root-meansquare error of the BTH elevation surface by 9 m. The HASM-based algorithm for spatial downscaling reduced the relative error of future scenarios of annual mean temperature by 16%. The HASM-based algorithm for spatial interpolation reduced the relative error of change trend of annual mean precipitation by 0.2%. The HASM-based algorithm for data fusion reduced the relative error of change trend of annual mean temperature by 70%. The HASM-based algorithm for model-data assimilation reduced the relative error of carbon stocks by 40%. We propose five theoretical challenges and three application problems of HASM that need to be addressed to improve FTEEM.

Short term electric load forecast with artificial neural networks

This paper presents issues regarding short term electric load forecasting using feedforward and Elman recurrent neural networks. The study cases were developed using measured data representing electrical energy consume from Banat area. There were considered 35 different types of structure for both feedforward and recurrent network cases. For each type of neural network structure were performed many trainings and best solution was selected. This paper opens up an issue regarding to power system investment planning. In order to obtain a sustainable electricity supply, the power outage should be minimized. Maintenance cost plays as an essential element in investment planning, therefore misdirect investment should be avoided. Since soft computing can solved this problem, this paper offers a review in solving investment planning problem through such approaches. The main objective of this paper is to examine the concept and findings by the researchers in power system investment planning problem. Besides, this paper will highlight the most relevant contributions and limitations that can be improve in the other research. Finally, this paper will be pointed out some trends in power system investment planning problem.

Computational prediction of the interaction between human leukocyte antigen (HLA) and peptide (pHLA) can speed up epitope screening and vaccine design. Here, we develop the TransMut framework composed of TransPHLA for pHLA binding prediction and AOMP for mutated peptide optimization, which can be generalized to any binding and mutation task of biomolecules. Firstly, TransPHLA is developed by using a Transformer-derived self-attention model to predict pHLA binding, which is significantly superior to 11 previous methods on pHLA binding prediction, neoantigen and human papilloma virus vaccine identification. For vaccine design, the AOMP program is then developed to automatically optimize mutated peptides to search for mutant peptides with higher affinity to the target HLA and with high homology to the source peptide. Among 3660 non-binding pHLAs, 3630 were successfully mutated. Of these, 94% were verified by the IEDB recommended method, and 88% have homology higher than 80% to the source peptide. © 2021, CC BY.

Optimization of rate allocation and power control for rate splitting multiple access (RSMA)

In this paper, the sum-rate maximization problem is studied for wireless networks that use downlink rate splitting multiple access (RSMA). In the considered model, each base station (BS) divides the messages that must be transmitted to its users into a "private" part and a "common" part. Here, the common message is a message that all users want to receive and the private message is a message that is dedicated to only a specific user. The RSMA mechanism enables a BS to adjust the split of common and private messages so as to control the interference by decoding and treating interference as noise and, thus optimizing the data rate of users. To maximize the users' sum-rate, the network can determine the rate allocation for the common message to meet the rate demand, and adjust the transmit power for the private message to reduce the interference. This problem is formulated as an optimization problem whose goal is to maximize the sum-rate of all users. To solve this nonconvex maximization problem, the optimal power used for transmitting the private message to the users is first obtained in closed form for a given rate allocation and common message power. Based on the optimal private message transmission power, the optimal rate allocation is then derived under a fixed common message transmission power. Subsequently, a one-dimensional search algorithm is proposed to obtain the optimal solution of common message transmission power. Simulation results show that the RSMA can achieve up to 15.6% and 21.5% gains in terms of data rate compared to non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) and orthogonal frequency-division multiple access (OFDMA), respectively. As for a pipe-line system subjected to complex operations, an approach is proposed to synthesize the controller via Petri nets (PNs) such that the plant is run as concurrently as possible and the loads of equipments are balanced. A P-timed and labeled PN is designed to model the whole process of a pipe-line system, where tasks, including transporting material from one tank to another and cleaning tank, are represented by operational places, and level sensors amounted in tanks are represented by labels assigned to transitions. Further, monitor places are designed to resolve the conflict relations among tasks due to the shared valves and pipes. An method is presented to translate an PN controller into a CIF3 (Compositional Interchange Format) model, which can be converted into a PLC program in the CIF3 tool. A beer filtration plant is taken as an example to illustrate the approach, and its simulation experiments are carried out to verify the theoretic results.

Distributed H2-optimized Output Feedback controller Design using the ADMM

This paper addresses the design of sparse, H2-optimized dynamic output feedback controllers for distributed systems. These systems consist of several physically remote subsystems, which are assumed to be controlled via local controllers. Depending on the topology of a communication network, subsets of these controllers may exchange information. In this setting, a trade-off between control performance and communication costs exists: while a network which connects more controllers increases control performance, establishing communication links also causes higher costs. In the past, the Alternating Direction Method of Multipliers (ADMM) has been applied to the design of state feedback controllers that optimize this trade-off. Due to the practical relevance of output feedback, this paper provides extensions necessary for application of the ADMM to the output feedback case. Motivated by deeper insights into the non-convex, non-smooth nature of the problem, the HANSO optimization package is applied to the controller performance optimization subproblem of the ADMM. The devised procedure is successfully applied to two example systems. © 2017

The papers in this special section address distributed signal processing applications that support security and privacy in networked cyber-physical systems. Networked cyber-physical systems (CPSs) are engineering systems with integrated computational and communication capabilities that interact with humans through cyber space. The CPSs have recently emerged in several practical applications of significant engineering importance including aerospace, industrial/manufacturing process control, multimedia networks, transportation systems, power grids, and medical systems. The CPSs typically consist of both wireless and wired sensor/agent networks with different capacity/reliability levels where the emphasis is on real-time operations, and performing distributed, secure, and optimal sensing/processing is the key concern. To satisfy these requirements of the CPSs, it is of paramount importance to design innovative Signal Processing tools to provide unprecedented performance and resource utilization efficiency. © 2015 IEEE.

Anesthesia is considered as one of the most important part of any surgical operation due to this it must be good monitored and controlled, i.e. the rate of infusion must be given an inappropriate dose to save the patient status in an adequate level of anesthesia. The model translates the relation between the drug used and patient response is pharmacokinetic pharmacodynamic (PK/PD). Bispectral index (BIS) is the most standard for maintaining the Anesthesia level. In this paper an optimal PID controller with neural network consists of one neuron is presented to evaluate the drug infusion rate, the system input will be the propofol drug rate, and the level of hypnosis will be the system output since it is measured during surgery from the monitor of the BIS device. optimal controller will calculate the infusion rate by using particle swarm optimization (PSO) method for tuning all the variables needed to find the optimal rate and considered it as a control signal. Then all the result is obtained by Matlab software and the hardware implantation is done using the Integrated Synthesis Environment from Xilinx ISE version 14.6 and downloaded on Spartan 3 Kit (XC3SD3400ACS484-4 by). The output results obtained from the controller in measuring the value of the infusion rate and tracking the BIS value for different patients show its efficiency and robustness in measuring the Depth of Anesthesia (DOA) correctly.
