Cascaded PI controller Tuning for Power Plant Superheated Steam Temperature based on Multi-Objective Optimization

To improve the superheated steam temperature (SST) control performance, this paper considers the conflicting objectives in SST control, multi-objective optimization (MOO) algorithm is employed in this paper. Firstly, the inner-loop PI controller is optimized by considering the objectives of set-point tracking and disturbance rejection, with and without constraints on robustness level. It is found that robustness constraint is essential in the optimization. Secondly, the regulation performance of the outer-loop PI controller is addressed by optimizing the disturbance rejection and robustness simultaneously. The parameter are determined based on the simulation comparison between the non-dominated solutions. The simulation results demonstrate a promising prospect of promoting the proposed strategy to more industrial practices. © 2017

In the article, the energy characteristics of a terraced house located in Kielce were assessed. The analyzed house was put into use in 1982. Due to the old manufacturing technology, mainly in the area of the materials used, to limit significant heat losses, it has been thermally renewed many times. The aim of the calculations was to indicate the financial benefits, in example to reduce the costs of maintaining the house and to provide its residents with the proper comfort of use of the building, also taking into account the health aspects. The analysis of the object was made in several stages. Proposed are changes reducing the demand for non-renewable primary energy Ep, using modern thermal insulation materials, joinery with low heat transfer coefficient and renewable energy sources. As a result, an energy-efficient building that meets WT 2017 was obtained. The annual demand for non-renewable primary energy EP was determined using the Certo 2015 program in educational version 1.3.3.0.

This paper is concerned with the model predictive control (MPC) problem for a class of unconstrained polytopic systems under the try-once-discard (TOD) protocol. Under the TOD protocol, only the sensor gaining the highest priority is allowed to transmit the data to the controller at each time instant. In this case, a switched system related to the activated sensor is constructed and, based on which, a 'min-max' problem is formulated to facilitate the design of the MPC-based controllers. Furthermore, by taking the influence of the TOD protocol into consideration, an online minimization problem on certain upper bound of the objective function is put forward in order to acquire locally optimal control performance under the TOD protocol. Finally, a simulation example is used to illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed technique. © 2017 Chinese Automation and Computing Society in the UK - CACSUK.

In this paper, the variance-constrained finite-horizon state estimation problem is studied for a class of discrete time-varying systems with an event-triggering mechanism. An event-based transmission scheme is employed during the data communication from the sensor to the estimator with hope to reduce the network burden and energy consumption. Furthermore, redundant channels are utilized to enable the data delivery service to be more reliable in a networked environment. Attention is fixed on the design of a time-varying state estimator such that, in the presence of external disturbances and probabilistic packet dropouts, the estimation error variance achieves the prescribed constraint over a finite-horizon. By means of the mathematical induction method, sufficient conditions are put forward to ensure the error variance is bounded within a prescribed upper bound at each sampling instant. A numerical example is provided to illustrate the usefulness of the proposed estimator design scheme. © 2017 Chinese Automation and Computing Society in the UK - CACSUK.

An optimized energy management strategy for fuel cell hybrid vehicles

Fuel cell hybrid vehicles are environmentally friendly and have good development prospects. Their energy management is very important, but there are currently few studies on this topic. In this paper, an optimized energy management strategy specifically applied to fuel cell hybrid vehicles is proposed. Fuel cell hybrid vehicles have some different characteristics from ordinary hybrid vehicles, which need to be considered in energy management. For the fuel cell to remain activated during driving, its output power must remain above a minimum power. In addition, it takes some time for the fuel cell to start up. These characteristics are considered in the vehicle model. The energy management strategy proposed in this paper maximizes energy use efficiency by controlling the SOC value of the battery. The SOC value of the battery is in the proper range during driving. At high speeds, fuel is consumed as a source of energy and the battery is charged to keep its SOC at a high level. When approaching the destination or when the vehicle is traveling at a low speed, the battery is discharged to reduce fuel consumption. Applying this strategy to the ECE-15 and EUDCL environments, the simulation results show that this optimized energy management strategy improves the energy efficiency of the fuel cell and enables the battery to operate at the appropriate power.

Breast cancer is the most often detected cancer in women. At the same time, it is one of the most curable types of cancer if diagnosed early. With the development of the detection technology, a growing amount of clinical data and highdimensional features can be used for breast cancer diagnosis. The high-dimensional data contributes to advances in the diagnostic technology, but also incurs a large amount of computational redundancy. Thus, extracting important information and reducing the feature dimension is critical to effective prediction and an accurate treatment ***, the previous works for breast cancer diagnosis are mainly based on labeled data that is difficult to obtain. To address this issue, in this paper, we demonstrate a new scheme, which integrates a deep learning based unsupervised feature extraction algorithm, the stacked auto-encoders, with a support vector machine model（SAE-SVM）, for breast cancer diagnosis. The stacked auto-encoders with the greedy layerwise pre-training and an improved momentum update algorithm is applied to capture essential information and extract necessary features of the original data. Then, a support vector machine model is employed to classify the samples with new features into malignant or benign tumors. The proposed method was tested on the Wisconsin Diagnostic Breast Cancer data set. The performance is evaluated using various measures and compared with the previously published results. The comparison results show that the proposed SAE-SVM method improves the accuracy to 98.25% and outperforms the other methods. The deep learning based unsupervised feature extraction significantly improves the performance of classification and provides a promising approach to breast cancer diagnosis.

The issue of wastes reclaiming in large cities is really a pressing problem today. First of all, the wastes which occupy wide areas of land need to be reclaimed. The metal production slag and waste water sediments are typical examples of such waste products. They create a wide area of ecological and social discomfort when collected and accumulated in large quantities after treatment. The purpose of this study is development of new soil materials which include waste products. The material properties can be influenced in a level of electric-surface interaction of the studied system components. The phase boundary presence and high degree of dispersion of the components require considering the sign of the charge of the particle surface and the particle size, influence of the charge on the nature of interaction between the surfaces and thus allows defining possible methods of modifying the surface properties in order to obtain materials needed. This includes modification of the surface of the aggregates and filling agents, activation of the functional groups, dispersed system stability, coagulation control, etc.

An improved Gene Expression Programming (GEP) based on niche technology of outbreeding fusion (OFN-GEP) is proposed to overcome the insufficiency of traditional GEP in this paper. The main improvements of OFN-GEP are as follows: (1) using the population initialization strategy of gene equilibrium to ensure that all genes are evenly distributed in the coding space as far as possible;(2) introducing the outbreeding fusion mechanism into the niche technology, to eliminate the kin individuals, fuse the distantly related individuals, and promote the gene exchange between the excellent individuals from niches. To validate the superiority of the OFN-GEP, several improved GEP proposed in the related literatures and OFN-GEP are compared about function finding problems. The experimental results show that OFN-GEP can effectively restrain the premature convergence phenomenon, and promises competitive performance not only in the convergence speed but also in the quality of solution.

Non-orthogonal multiple access schemes with higher spectral efficiency and the capability of accessing more users than orthogonal multiple access (OMA) scheme is preferred for the fifth generation (5G) wireless networks. In this work, a non-orthogonal transmission scheme called pattern division multiple access (PDMA) is proposed for the 5G wireless communication systems. Two pattern matrices are proposed for 150% and 200% overloaded PDMA systems. Then, a low complexity symbol-wise belief propagation iterative detection and decoding (BPIDD) algorithm for multiple user detection is proposed. Numerical results and analysis provided by utilizing extrinsic information transfer chart show that the proposed scheme outperforms the traditional OMA systems significantly, and the performance of the proposed scheme is better than that of the existing schemes up to 1 dB. Finally, simulation results show that the proposed scheme is superior to the existing schemes and the proposed BPIDD algorithm is better than that of the BP algorithm over 0.5 dB.

As a classical cell balancing solution in low-power supercapacitor applications, the switched resistor circuit is vulnerable to resistance deviation effects with existing cell balancing methods. In this paper, we propose a synchronized cell balancing method for switched resistor circuits based on the consensus theory and a cyber-physical approach, with the aim of synchronizing cell voltages before they are fully charged. It is shown that the proposed cell-balancing algorithm is robust to resistance deviation effects. Extensive simulations are provided to show the effectiveness of the proposed method. © 2017
