A method for detecting spikes and slow burst in photic evoked electroencephalogram (EEG) was proposed. The spikes were detected by combining methods of the morphological filter and the similarity coefficient in the time domain. The slow burst was detected by using pole of AR model in the frequency domain. The proposed method was applied for the photic evoked EEG data containing spikes and slow burst, and brought satisfactory coincidence with the results interpreted by a qualified electroencephalographer.

Recording of neural response to specific stimulus in a repeated trial is very common in neuroscience protocol. The perstimulus time histogram (PSTH) is a standard tool for analysis of neural response. However it could not capture the non-deterministic properties of the neuron especially in higher level cortical area such as inferior temporal cortex. The stochastic state point process filter theory is used for the estimation of the conditional intensity of the point process observation as a time varying firing rate and the particle filter is used to numerically estimate this density in time. The particle filters were applied to the results of the point process observation for compensating the Gaussian assumption. The results of applying point process modeling on a real data from inferior temporal cortex of macaque monkey indicates that, based on the assessment of goodness-of-fit, the neural spiking activity and biophysical property of neuron could be captured more accurately in compare to conventional methods.

Due to the influence of the local noise at the distribution level, the frequency curve obtained from the frequency disturbance recorder (FDR) unit is too non-stationary to observe its wave-front directly, which causes some problems in the event location estimation method. In this paper, a morphological filter (MF) is employed to extract the wave-front arrival time and the trend of the frequency curve. With the help of the MF, the accuracy of the event location method is greatly improved.

Adding spare resources to replace defective components is a widely accepted method for yield enhancement. In this work, a repair method using content addressable memory combined with spare bits, as well as a novel fault injection method is proposed. With the proposed fault injection technique, various numbers and types of faults can be flexibly injected into the silicon. A wireless sensor network system using our self-repairable microprocessor (SRP) is developed to prove the effectiveness of the proposed technique.

A novel digital redesign of the analog model-reference-based decentralized adaptive controller is proposed for the sampled-data large scale system consisting of N interconnected linear subsystems with actuator faults. The adaptation of the analog controller gain is derived by using the model-reference adaptive control theory based on Lyapunov method. In this paper, it is shown that the sampled-data decentralized adaptive controlsystem is theoretically possible to asymptotically track the desired output with a specified performance even when actuator faults occur. Then, a method of actuator fault recovery is proposed. With the estimated faults, one can use the proposed input compensation method to solve actuator faults. In this paper, we also introduce a prediction-based digital redesign method to develop the corresponding sampled-data controller for the sampled-data decentralized adaptive controlsystems.

In conventional signature analysis, faulty units are identified by mismatch between the actual and reference signatures. The amount of reference signatures can be quite large for a complex system that requires high testing resolution. This complicates the diagnosis procedure. We show how under certain restrictions this amount can be reduced, preserving the diagnosis resolution and the aliasing rate. We construct a signature analyzer that is capable of locating faulty units. If the analyzer is implemented in the external automated test equipment, its throughput requirements can be diminished.
