Recently, micro/nanoheater have been used and studied in various fields such as sensors. In particular, they have become important in biology and medicine. In this paper, we propose a novel measurement method which can indirectly measure the temperature distribution of a nanoheater's surface from side temperature measurements using infrared microscopes. Two different types of nanoheaters are fabricated and their thermal behaviours are analysed and characterised. They are fabricated in a top-down approach using silicon-on-insulator wafers and basic MEMS processes. Nanoheaters with a high-aspect-ratio are fabricated: a width of 200 nm, length of 100 μm and height of 30 μm. The nanoheater's surface is doped with boron by ion implantation for joule heating. Their thermal profile depending on their heat sink type was investigated. In conclusions, it is expected that a nanoheater with exact temperature control and thermally efficient structural design can be applied for bio-molecule manipulation. Technical debt is a term that has been used to describe the increased cost of changing or maintaining a system due to shortcuts taken during its development. As technical debt is a recent research area, its different types and their indicators are not organized yet. Therefore, this paper proposes an ontology of terms on technical debt in order to organize a common vocabulary for the area. The organized concepts derived from the results of a systematic literature mapping. The proposed ontology was evaluated in two steps. In the first one, some ontology design quality criteria were used. For the second one, a specialist in the area performed an initial evaluation. This work contributes to evolve the Technical Debt Landscape through the organization of the different types of technical debt and their indicators. We consider this an important contribution for both researchers and practitioners because this information was spread out in the literature hindering their use in research and development activities.

In this study, we used four different hydrazines to react with CNTs to prepare CNT-based inks. We found that the ink with CNTs subjected to the 2,4-dinitrophenylhydrazine treatment exhibited much better dispersion property than the inks with CNTs treated with other organic hydrazines. In other words, within 3 days, all ink dispersions began to bundle and precipitate after the sample vials were left on the bench top in our lab, except the sample with CNTs treated with 2,4-dinitrophenylhydrazine. Most importantly, the ink sample with CNTs treated with 2,4-dinitrophenylhydrazine were still well dispersed even after the sample vial was left on the bench top for 6 months.

To evaluate associations by EGFR mutation status for lung adenocarcinoma risk among never-smoking Asian women, we conducted a meta-analysis of 11 loci previously identified in genome-wide association studies (GWAS). Genotyping in an additional 10,780 never-smoking cases and 10,938 never-smoking controls from Asia confirmed associations with eight known single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs). Two new signals were observed at genome-wide significance (P < 5 × 10-8), namely, rs7216064 (17q24.3, BPTF), for overall lung adenocarcinoma risk, and rs3817963 (6p21.3, BTNL2) which is specific to cases with EGFR mutations. In further sub-analyses by EGFR status, rs9387478 (ROS1/DCBLD1) and rs2179920 (HLA-DPB1) showed stronger estimated associations in EGFR-positive compared to EGFR-negative cases. Comparison of the overall associations with published results in Western populations revealed that the majority of these findings were distinct, underscoring the importance of distinct contributing factors for smoking and non-smoking lung cancer. Our results extend the catalogue of regions associated with lung adenocarcinoma in non-smoking Asian women and highlight the importance of how the germline could inform risk for specific tumour mutation patterns, which could have important translational implications.

Symmetric superlattice structures of multiferroic BiFeO3 and conductive LaNiO3 sublayers were grown on a Nb-doped SrTiO 3 substrate with radio-frequency magnetron-sputtering. The formation of a superlattice structure was confirmed from the appearance of satellite lines on both sides of the main line in the X-ray diffraction pattern. X-ray measurements show that these superlattice films become subject to greater tensile stress along the c-axis and to increased compressive stress parallel to the surface plane with a decreasing thickness of the sublayer. The smaller is the thickness of the sublayer, the greater is the crystalline quality and the strain state. The hysteresis loops show a large leakage current at frequencies of 0.5 and 1 kHz;the polarization decreases with an increasing frequency. © 2012 Elsevier B.V.

Thisresearch proposes methods to classify the pattern of unusual nasal cavity using Ripper Rule, C4.5 decision tree, K-Nearest neighbor which aims to help physicians classify abnormal nasal cavity from acoustic rhinometry signal. The experiments showed that the algorithm was best effective classification is C4.5 decision tree has ROC 0.99 (sensitivity 0.99, specificity 0.99 and standard deviation 0.1). The result showed that abnormalities of the nasal cavity are about 0.3 – 5 cm. and nasal cross sectional area is less than 0.55 cm~2. Therefore, this study suggests that the C4.5 decision tree algorithm could apply for screening abnormal nasal cavity. It led to application or tool development on medical devices in the future.

This paper presents an approach to resolve integer ambiguity of GPS carrier phase difference between two antennas separated by the baseline length. An approached algorithm based on Gram-Schmidt Orthonormalisation associated with Genetic Algorithm (GA), is proposed for medium length baseline observations. The proposed approach was exploited to reduce the dimensional search space and number of search. The implemented algorithms are tested with a simulated data of minisatellite orbiting in low Earth orbit. The results showed that a carrier phase difference can be recovered.

Normally, there have been many methods to diagnosis of flat foot. Each method is different to use indicators e.g. Staheli arch index, Clark's angle and Chippaux-Smirak index. However, the results from such indicators are still varied in each method. Therefore, this paper proposes a classification of the flat foot by combining of multiple indicators with neural network process. It can improve an accuracy of classification more than the use of only one indicator. There are 132 images of footprints (left and right foot) consisting of normal foot or flat foot. The experimental results using a combination of indicators show that an accuracy of the result is up to 93% more than the single index i.e. Staheli arch index 43%, Clark's angle 68%, Chippaux-Smirak index 80%. It can make more precisely diagnose of flat foot.

Robots also have been trusted to help human to complete difficult jobs, for example, finding for the earthquake, a fire, or a sinking ship victims. The robot must be reliable, clever and moving automatically. The aim of this study is to develop and apply the application of artificial RAM-based neural networks (WNNs) on a mobile robot using a multilayer processing architecture with memory optimizations on to address and input pattern, so that producing smart navigation model which it has a simpler computational load and faster execution time. The gained result from the first study was the percentage of memory optimization in the amount of 50%. This result obtained from the formerly RAM using 8 bit data width has been optimized to 4 bits. Both of the percentage of data optimization pattern is 93.75%. This percentage is obtained from the optimization pattern (pattern taken is 4 bits MSB), each 1 bit data can handle 15 unseen patterns.
