Poly (methyl methacrylate) (PMMA), which is suitable for use in the human body owing to its biocompatibility, is commonly used in medical applications such as bone nails, bone cement, and dentures. However, owing to its hard and brittle nature, PMMA can cause damage when it is subjected to excessive stress and can also cause severe wear. In this study, three different sizes of silica particles were used as reinforcing additives to enhance the wear resistance of PMMA composites. A pin-on-disk wear test was conducted to record the coefficient of friction and wear volume, and the wear volume was measured using a 3D laser scanning microscope. In the wear test, the transfer film of micron and submicron particles produced a plowing effect, resulting in wide grooved wear scars and a higher wear rate than the raw material. The nanoparticle transfer film reduced direct material wear, the wear scars were fine and flat, and the wear rate was decreased, reducing the wear of SiO2-reinforced PMMA composites by 40%. The experimental results revealed that the wear volume is proportional to the wear time. In addition, the observed area of the transfer film on the wear counterpart can be used as a service life sensor of the coating material. © MYU K.K.

In the context of smart cities where green infras-tructure is incentived, besides important benefits like regulating temperatures and absorbing pollutants among others, tour by urban forests is a way to experience closer contact with nature near of big urban centers. Eventually, visitors get lost, and helping these people with velocity is important to avoid severe incidents. Normally, rescue operations mobilize firefighters, ex-pensive equipment like helicopters and public resources. Following that idea of reducing search time in rescue operations, this paper considers the Data Mule Routing Problem with Limited Autonomy (DMRP-wLA). To find high-quality solutions, this paper proposes an Ant Colony Optimization algorithm enhanced with Reinforcement Learning to create an adaptive decision-making algorithm. © 2024 IEEE.

A novel method for the synthesis of solvent-free and high-solid-content waterborne polyurethanes by introducing a small amount of polyethylene glycol

In the study, the synthesis process involved the reaction of dimethylolbutyric acid and polytetramethylene ether glycol 1000 (PTMG1000) with hexamethylene diisocyanate (H12MDI), taking advantage of their mutual dissolution at high temperatures. The chain-extension reaction with 1,4-butanediol (BDO) was successfully conducted without the use of organic solvents. The emulsification reaction was carried out using the polyurethane prepolymer at 60% solids content, along with aqueous dispersions of polyethylene glycol (PEG) with varying molecular weights and amounts as interfacially active agents. Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy analysis suggested potential hydrogen bonding interactions between the PEG molecular chain and the polyurethane chain. Rheometer analysis demonstrated a significant reduction in viscosity with the addition of 1–5 wt.% PEG, accompanied by an increase in average particle size. This phenomenon was attributed to the formation of a hydrophilic lubrication layer of PEG around the water-based polyurethane (WPU) microcells. Among them, WPU films containing 4 wt.% PEG4000 not only exhibited soft properties with a mechanical elongation rate exceeding 2000% but also showed excellent storage stability. The addition of long-chain PEG facilitated the formation of a lubrication layer between the microcells, contributing to spatial stabilization and reducing particle aggregation at high solids content. It is noteworthy that this solvent-free process, without any organic solvents, together with the adjusted PEG content, successfully synthesized waterborne polyurethanes with low viscosity and high solids content. This provides a new sustainable and environmentally friendly method for the future production of waterborne polyurethanes. © 2024 Wiley Periodicals LLC.

Crawler cranes are used in various applications, including plant construction and civil engineering. However, accidents caused by hazardous events, such as overturning the entire body or overshadowing of a suspended load, can be problematic. Because crawler cranes are large and powerful machines, simulators are required to analyze the relationship between such hazardous events and human operations. This study proposed a framework for a mixed-reality simulator to analyze the interactions between humans and crawler cranes. This framework combined the high-performance graphics capabilities of Unreal Engine 5 with the high-precision multibody dynamics analysis of MATLAB Simscape to create a visually and physically realistic simulation. Moreover, the quantification of the decision-making process was possible based on the eye-tracking information of the operator. This study described the implementation of these features and discussed the prospects for human-crawler crane interaction analysis using this simulator.

Immersive learning has gained significant attention with the rising trend of spatial computing, particularly in the after-pandemic era. Numerous research has explored the potential of immersive learning in higher education, primarily on the educational sector. However, prior research has frequently focused too narrowly on the effects of technology and neglected to address the crucial element influencing successful immersive learning in higher education. This study seeks to pinpoint the crucial element contributing to the development of immersive learning experiences. The methodology uses a systematic literature review (SLR) from 2018 up to 2023 to investigate the critical factors of immersive Learning in Higher Education. From the 728 papers initially retrieved, 274 were considered potential candidates, and ultimately, 86 articles were selected based on their relevance to the research question. The results reveal that the critical factors include learning design, technology, immersion, engagement, interactivity, and usability. Academic interests will benefit from this SLR's consequences as institutions create models for designing suitable immersive learning, especially within the context of higher education. © 2023 IEEE.

Sasirangan cloth is one of the traditional cloths owned by Indonesia and is a typical cloth originating from the province of South Kalimantan. This Sasirangan cloth has many motifs and is unique. Sasirangan cloth is also one of the potentials that can attract local and foreign tourists to visit South Kalimantan. However, in recent years, tourist visits to South Kalimantan have decreased due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. Then it also has an impact on the delay in the implementation of the Banjarmasin Sasirangan Festival which is usually held annually. The next impact is a decrease in turnover and interest in shopping for Sasirangan cloth, so that employees who work for Sasirangan cloth craftsmen are dismissed and reduce people's income. So the purpose of this study is to report the results of the development of a Virtual Reality Game application called VR-SasiranganKu by integrating the interaction of Non-Player Character (NPC) behavior with the type of narrative in the simulation genre game. VR-SasiranganKu is recommended to introduce and at the same time promote Sasirangan cloth to users, then justify the reaction to knowledge and shopping experience, and evaluate user experience using the UX Honeycomb method. Respondents involved as many as 100 people who are local and national tourists. The results show that the interaction of NPC behavior can provide good direction to users regarding the introduction of Sasirangan cloth by presenting an appropriate interaction design based on the narrative and the theme of the NPC that has been adopted, the results of justification using VR-SasiranganKu can provide knowledge reaction and very good shopping experience, and based on user experience evaluation that VR-SasiranganKu has adopted a very good UX with an average score of 4.91. © 2022 IEEE.

The 2011 flood in Thailand exposed significant vulnerabilities in industrial areas, highlighting the necessity for enhanced disaster risk management through Area-Business Continuity Management (Area-BCM). This preliminary study focuses on identifying how stakeholders rely on information from each other to improve disaster preparedness and response. The research involves systematically identifying Area-BCM stakeholders and designing interview questions, which are evaluated by experts using the Index of Item-Objective Congruence (IOC) to ensure relevance and clarity. All interview questions surpassed the IOC threshold of 0.5, confirming their effectiveness in capturing information interdependencies. Expert feedback led to refinements in the questions, underscoring the importance of tailored data collection. This initial plan provides a critical foundation for understanding information interdependence and highlights the importance of well-designed data collection methods. The findings have significant implications for developing more resilient disaster management strategies in industrial areas, emphasizing the need for precise and relevant stakeholder communication to enhance Area-BCM effectiveness. © 2024 IEEE.

This research aims to develop an application for selecting the best new tenant at PT Angkasa Pura II Sultan Thaha Jambi Airport Branch by utilizing Weighted Product (WP) method as the decision support system. Our approach is descriptive research with data analysis technique using four prospective tenants coded A-1 to A-4. The data was collected through observation, interviews, documentation, and literature study. The steps for selecting the best new tenant using the WP method include determining the criteria, sorting the suitability of alternatives and criteria, determining the weight of each criterion and its normalization, calculating the score, S value as an alternative preference, and calculating the ranking, V value as the final alternative preference. Based on the final calculation results, the new tenant coded A-4 is the best alternative based on the data collected from the Financial Management (FHFM) Unit and the Commercial Unit, with a value of V-4 is 0.294. © 2023 IEEE.

In this research, the Human Following Robot (HFR) prototype has been designed and implemented using YOLO v3-Tiny and Tensor Flow Lite on Raspberry Pi hardware named Rewang. The HFR Rewang is designed to assist aircraft technicians by bringing maintenance tool kits to aircraft shelters. Rewang's movement is based on a camera as a vision sensor following the movement of human entities. Image input is processed by YOLO v3-Tiny through the determination of the bounding box, the calculation of Euclidean Distance, and the determination of the pixel value of the camera as the basis of Rewang's movement which is regulated by an L298N driver motor that controls two Direct Current (DC) motors for the left and right wheels. The test results show that Rewang can move at an average speed of 0.18 m/s at 2 m with a travel time of 11 seconds with a light intensity of more than 250 lux. The minimum and maximum distance of object detection is as far as 120 cm and 400 cm, with an object detection accuracy of 95.8%. Rewang allows the HFR to have a larger carrying capacity to bring more complete aircraft maintenance tools and is prospective for other aerospace and general applications.

This research investigates the prospective performance of SiC/SiO2 as front transparent passivated contacts in industrial bifacial passivated contacts (biPC) solar cells using Sentaurus TCAD for optical raytracing and electrical simulations. Our simulations suggest an estimated efficiency improvement of approximately 1.9%abs for front SiC/SiO2 passivated contacts as compared to poly-Si/SiO2 front contacts. The simulations further indicate the possibility of achieving a remarkable performance of 25% through industrial-compatible processes with the proposed bifacial passivated contact structure. © 2024 IEEE.
