A treatment consisting of resistance heat treatment and artificial aging was developed to improve the product strength and press formability of Al-Mg-Si alloy sheets having paint bake hardenability used for automobile body panels. In this treatment, the sheets are re-solution heat-treated by resistance heating and water quenching just before the press forming. The formed sheets are artificially aged just after the press forming to increase the product strength. In the experiment, Al-0.60%Si-0.74%Mg (A6061) alloy sheets were chosen. The solution heat treatment of the sheets was sufficiently accomplished by the rapid resistance heat treatment, and the press formability of the sheets was improved. The hardness of formed products is increased by the artificial aging and paint bake hardening. It was found that the present heat treatment is effective in improving the product strength and press formability of the Al-Mg-Si alloy sheets having the paint bake hardenability.

This paper presents studies of propagation characteristics in a suburban forest based on a measurement campaign at a frequency of 1.8 GHz. We investigated how tree density affected the fast fading characteristic depending on tree density and base station antenna height in a range of 3, 4, and 5 m above ground while the receiving antenna height was fixed at 1.8 m above ground. Three categories were studied: high density area, low density areas and grass area. Measurement of the receiver signal over 120 s intervals for a stationary mobile were used to obtain the distribution functions for the fading. We found that the distributions followed a Rician distribution, whose K-factor depended on tree density and transmitter height.

A new technique is proposed to simultaneously measure the size and three-component velocity of droplets, which is the extension of the interferometric laser imaging technique to the stereoscopic configuration. The optical compression concept is also utilized to avoid droplet image overlap for the application to the relatively dense region of sprays. The applicability of the technique is successfully demonstrated by using a practical aero-engine airblast fuel spray field. The results are compared with those by the phase Doppler anemometry to evaluate the performance. The results by the two techniques show good agreement. The influence of the air pressure drop through the nozzle is also studied by the present technique and the results are reasonable and consistent with those from literatures. Some important characteristics of the complicated counter-swirling airblast spray field is clearly revealed, taking advantage of the present technique, such as the droplet motions influenced by the air flow in the recirculation zone and in the attenuated circumferential counter-swirl shear-layer structure, not only by the mean velocity values, but also by the various correlations among droplet properties.

There will be many challenges including the support of new mission navigation approaches such as formation flying and rendezvous in deep space, low-energy and low-thrust orbit transfers, precise landing and ascent vehicles, and autonomous navigation. Innovative strategies and approaches will be needed to develop and field advanced navigation capabilities.

Clinical engineering professionals need to continually review and improve their management strategies in order to keep up with improvements in equipment technology, as well as with increasing expectations of health care organizations. In the last 20 years, management strategies have evolved from the initial obsession with electrical safety to flexible criteria that fit the individual institution's needs. Few hospitals, however, are taking full advantage of the paradigm shift offered by the evolution of Joint Commission standards. The focus should be on risks caused by equipment failure, rather than on equipment with highest maintenance demands. Furthermore, it is not enough to consider risks posed by individual pieces of equipment to individual patients. It is critical to anticipate the impact of an equipment failure on larger groups of patients, especially when dealing with one of a kind, sophisticated pieces of equipment that are required to provide timely and accurate diagnoses for immediate therapeutic decisions or surgical interventions. A strategy for incorporating multiple criteria to formulate appropriate management strategies is provided in this article.
