Stuchly, M.A. University of Victoria Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering University of Victoria Victoria British Columbia Canada Janet McCulloch:is a native of Toronto Canada where she briefly attended both York University and the University of Toronto before she set off on a year-long adventure through the Middle East and North Africa. When she returned to Canada she relocated to California. She spent a number of years living both in Los Angeles and coastal Northern California interspersed with several extended trips through the United States Mexico and Central America. Ms. McCulloch moved to Victoria British Columbia in 1989 and a year later registered in the cooperative education program in Electrical Engineering at the University of Victoria. She is presently in the fifth and final year of the program and has her sights set on graduate school. Besides the work described in this article she has been very much involved in the use of technology to assist in the delivery of curriculum at the senior secondary level. She lives on a country property a half-hour from the University with her husband her horse and three cats. W. Alfred Keddy:is an applications programmer/analyst for the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Victoria. He received a BEng (1988) in Electrical Engineering and an MASc (1994) from the University of Victoria. His research interests include distributed systems image processing local area networks VLSI and DSP system design for computation and communication and human–computer interface design. Maria A. Stuchly:received an MSc in Electrical Engineering in 1962 from Warsaw Technical University and a PhD in Electrical Engineering from the Polish Academy of Sciences in 1970. Between the years of 1962 and 1970 she was with the Warsaw Technical University an Institute of the Polish Academy of Sciences. Among these were the Trident II fire control and navigation systems the BSY-I Anti-Submarine Warfare System and the Navy standard computers (UYK44 and EMSP). He served as manager of the Digital Circuits Engineering Branch and was then appointed as manager of the Automatic Test Equipment (ATE) Technology Division. As manager of the ATE Technology Division he was responsible for the SP-23 Fire Control System Support Project the SP-24 Navigation Project and the Fleet Progressive Maintenance Program (2M/ATE). This Division was responsible for selection and application of electronic product technology and for developing fleet test and repair techniques. He holds a B.S. in Electrical Engineering from the University of Evansville and is currently pursuing a Masters of Public Administration at Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis. Dr. Alfred Skolnick:retired from the Navy in 1983 with the rank of captain. He is president of System Science Consultants (SSC) specializing in strategic planning technical program definition technology assessment and engineering analyses on selected matters of national interest. Dr. Skolnick taught mathematics and management sciences at University of Virginia and Marymount University. He is adjunct faculty at Northern Virginia Community College. From 1985 to 1989 he was president of the American Society of Naval Engineers. In the Navy he served at Applied Physics Laboratory/The Johns Hopkins University then aboard USSBoston(CAG-1) and played leading roles in several weapon system developments inertial navigation (Polaris) deep submergence (DSRV) and advanced ship designs (SES). He later was director Combat System Integration Naval Sea Systems Command and head Combat Projects Naval Ship Engineering Center. This group applies current and future technologies to naval and marine propulsion plant designs. Dutton received his BS degree in electrical engineering from the University of Virginia in 1978 and began working at NNS later that year. His previous tasks have included the AN/BSY-2 Combat System in the NNS Seawolf program and project leader of the NNS superconductivity program. An officer of the Cryogenic Society of America (Hampton Roads Chapter) he is presently working on advanced motor/generator designs and electrical distribution systems for shipboard applications at NNS.

Dr. Skolnick teaches mathematics and management sciences at Marymount University and Northern Virginia Community College. From 1985 to 1989 he was president of the American Society of Naval Engineers. He has been helping the Congressional Office of Technology Assessment in evaluating civil-military integration and dual-usage opportunities. He is active in advancing national efforts to improve the teaching of mathematics and science in our elementary and secondary schools he serves on the Board of Directors of the National Coalition of Engineering Societies for Precollege Mathematics and Science.

作者: JONS, OP RYAN, JC JONES, GW Otto P. Jons:received a Diplom Ing. in shipbuilding from the Technical University of Hanover W. Germany and an MS in naval architecture and marine engineering from MIT. He then joined Litton Ship Systems where he was responsible for the preliminary design of the DD-963 hull structure and then for ship system integration as manager LHA ship systems engineering department. From 1972 to 1974 he was the principal research scientist at Hydronautics. In 1974 as technical director he helped establish the Crystal City office of Designers and Planners. Mr. Jons was one of the co-founders of Advanced Marine Enterprises Inc. in 1976 where he serves as corporate vice president engineering. J. Christopher Ryan:earned his bachelors and masters degrees in naval architecture from Webb Institute and MIT respectively. He spent three years at the advanced marine technology division of Litton Industries working on the DD-963 class ship design and related computer aided design projects. He subsequently went to the Navy Department concentrating on early stage design of surface combatants for twelve years including work on the FFG-7 Sea Control Ship CSGN and CVV aircraft carrier projects. He then shifted focus and became the Technical Director for the Computer Supported Design Program in NavSea for five years. Mr. Ryan has served in several supervisory positions within the Ship Design Group in NavSea since that time. He is currently the director of the future ship concepts division. Gary W. Jones:graduated from the University of Tennessee in 1971 with a BS in mechanical engineering and followed up with graduate work at George Washington University and the University of Maryland. Mr. Jones was with the Naval Sea Systems Command from 1971 until 1988 where he was a naval architect in the submarine section of the hull form design division. He directs support to U.S. users of the INTELSAT satellite network particularly in the areas of certifying that performance of earth-stations is in accordance with system requirements and in supporting the unique needs of television customers. Mr. Cotner's primary technical interests are earth-station design transmission analysis and high power amplifiers. Mr. Cotner has been with COMSAT for over 25 years. Most recently he served as Director of Technical Liaison and Analysis responsible for much of COMSAT World Systems research and development programme for high-level technical interaction with customers such as AT&T and MCI and for initiatives to improve the quality of international satellite transmission. He has also held technical management positions in COMSAT Laboratories COMSAT General where he was a Division Director Earth Segment Engineering and COMSAT World Systems where he represented the U.S. Signatory on the INTELSAT Board of Governors Technical Advisory Committee for five years. Mr. Cotner is a colonel (retired) in the Signal Corps U.S. Army Reserve where he was assigned to several mobilization positions related to satellite communications including a tour of duty on the Joint Staff. Awarded the degree of B.S.E. (cum-laude) in Electrical Engineering by Princeton University. He received the B. Eng. degree in electrical engineering from Concordia University Montreal Canada in 1989. He is at present completing the M.A.Sc. degree in electrical engineering at Concordia University. (S'75–S'79–M'79–SM'86) received the Ph.D. degree from Southern Methodist University Dallas TX in 1979. He spent the next two years working as a Visiting Professor in Egypt after which he moved to Ottawa Canada in 1982. He assumed teaching and research positions in Carleton and Manitoba Univerities and later moved to Concordia University Montreal Canada in 1983 where he is now a Professor in the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department. He has published numerous papers in IEEE and international journals in the areas of spread spectrum and networking. He is a well-known expert in these areas and serves as a consultant to many companies.
