There are many research papers devoted to the state identification problem of finite state machines (FSMs) which are widely used for analysis of discrete event systems. A deterministic complete reduced FSM always has a homing sequence (HS) but a number of non-deterministic FSMs not necessarily have a preset HS;nevertheless, those FSMs can still have an adaptive HS. Moreover, adaptive HS can be shorter than the preset. If each state can be an initial state of a complete FSM, i.e., an FSM is non-initialized, then a shortest adaptive HS (if it exists) has polynomial length in the number of FSM states. We show that it is not the case for weakly-initialized FSMs: such FSMs can have a shortest adaptive HS of exponential length in the number of FSM states/transitions. However, the experimental evaluation shows that the non-polynomial upper bound for a shortest adaptive HS was never reached for randomly generated weakly-initialized two-input FSMs. © 2020 IEEE.

Diagnostics is one of the significant parameters of functional safety which concerns itself with revealing dangerous incidents that might impede the operation of safety systems. Diagnostic coverage factor (DC) is defined as a metric for diagnostics in that DC is one of the most important design parameters to measure the effectiveness of safety protection systems. This study addresses how diagnostics impacts proof test interval (TI) when the system is halted completely;a thorough maintenance and changes in parts are performed. Besides this, the relationship between average probability of failure on demand (PFDavg), DC, TI and mean time to failure (MTTF) are presented for 1oo2 and 1oo2D system architectures. © 2014 IEEE.

Code search is an important and well-studied task, but it usually means searching for code by a text query. We argue that using a code snippet (and possibly an error traceback) as a query while looking for bugfixing instructions and code samples is a natural use case not covered by prior art. Moreover, existing datasets use code comments rather than full-text descriptions as text, making them unsuitable for this use case. We present a new SearchBySnippet dataset implementing the search-by-code use case based on StackOverflow data;we show that on SearchBySnippet, existing architectures fall short of a simple BM25 baseline even after fine-tuning. We present a new single encoder model SnippeR that outperforms several strong baselines on SearchBySnippet with a result of 0.451 Recall@10;we propose the SearchBySnippet dataset and SnippeR as a new important benchmark for code search evaluation. © 2024 ELRA Language Resource Association: CC BY-NC 4.0.

Humans always face problems when it comes to medical check-up due to lack of time or laziness. However, lots of medical problems and fatal illnesses can be detected at earlier stages if the person is subject to continuous check-up. Hence, the idea of the proposed system is to design a tool enabling the measurement of the basic vital signs with the smallest effort possible from the person's side. Thus, this paper proposes a smart medical mirror system that acts as a normal mirror and also delivers the basic vital signs of the user such as the heart rate, SPO2, body temperature, and Body Mass Index (BMI). The system takes five seconds for initialization and starts the measurements and displays the results. The user will not lose time as this check-up can be performed every morning while the person is wearing his clothes and getting ready to start his daily activities. The system was tested by multiple users having different body statuses. The recorded values showed very small differences with the exact ones. At the end, the system was able to meet the user specifications concerning its portability, sensitivity, accuracy and, most importantly, its low cost. © 2020 IEEE.

The new technique of botnet detection which bots use polymorphic code was proposed. Performed detection is based on the multi-agent system by means of antiviral agents that contain sensors. For detection of botnet, which bots use polymorphic code, the levels of polymorphism were investigated and its models were built. A new sensor for polymorphic code detection within antivirus agent of multi-agent system was developed. Developed sensor performs provocative actions against probably infected file, restarts of the suspicious file for probably modified code detection, behavior analysis for modified code detection, based on the principles of known levels of polymorphism. © Springer International Publishing Switzerland 2014.

The diagnosis of possible faults in railway signaling systems is an important issue to provide safe travel and transportation in railways. Signaling system designers have to consider the possible faults which may occur in railway field components both on the requirements preparation phase and on the development phase of the signaling system software or namely, the interlocking system. Although the diagnosis of different unobservable faults is relatively hard, especially for large scale railway fields, this complexity can be overcome by using the Discrete Event system (DES) based modular diagnosis approach which is explained in this paper. The main advantage of using such modular approach for fault diagnosis in fixed-block signaling systems is the inspection of the diagnosability of the whole system with respect to its subsystems (railway field components). In this study, the diagnosability of the railway field equipment and the whole system is also explained with a case study. © 2016

Nowadays the information of future rates of systems produced in series appears to be crucial to the production plan, especially for remanufacturing departments. Several questions need to be answered: the number of cores to remanufacture the condition of those cores as well as the number of replacement system the market requires. Based on a bivariate prognosis model, a multivariate model is developed to take more variables of stress in field into account. What's more, the fitting process has been optimized by using neural networks. This paper presents all necessary tools to perform a multivariate lifetime prognosis as well as the implementation in MATLAB. © 2019 European Safety and Reliability Association. To remanufacture automobile systems, it is important to understand the future failure rate of the serially produced systems. In addition, remanufacturing departments need the information about the number of cores to remanufacture, the condition of these cores, as well as the number of replacement systems the market needs. Based on the existing univariate, bivariate and multivariate models a new improved forecasting model is developed, which considers practical factors like export of the vehicle to other countries, damage of the entire vehicle, reporting delay between production and in-market time or between vehicle failure and failure reporting time. This paper presents all necessary tools to achieve the improvement and its implementation in MATLAB. Copyright © 2019 European Safety and Reliability Association.
