We propose a generalised diffusion-based file replication scheme for load balancing in unstructured P2P file-sharing networks. The generalised method is derived by replacing the replication probability of a peer used in our previous study with a new expression. In the previous expression, the replication probability is defined to be proportional to the difference between its own load and the average load of its neighbour peers. We show here that the replication probability can instead be expressed as a simple average of one defined to be negatively proportional to its own load and one defined to be proportional to the average load of its neighbour peers. The generalised method (a) includes the above three methods as special cases, (b) can control the trade-off between search and load balancing performances, (c) has a physical analogy to diffusion phenomena, and (d) achieves a good balance in the trade-off differently from our previous method. In this work, we address the problem of finding experts using chains of social referrals and profile matching with only local information in online social networks. By assuming that users are selfish, rational, and have privately known cost of participating in the referrals, we design a novel truthful efficient mechanism in which an expert-finding query will be relayed by intermediate users. When receiving a referral request, a participant will locally choose among her neighbors some user to relay the request. In our mechanism, several closely coupled methods are carefully designed to improve the search performance, including, profile matching, social acquaintance prediction, score function for locally choosing relay neighbors, and budget estimation. We conduct extensive experiments on several datasets of online social networks. The extensive study of our mechanism shows that the success rate of our mechanism is about 90% in finding closely matched experts using only local search and limited budget, which significantly improves the previously best rate 20%. The overall cost of finding an expert by our truthful mechanism is about 20% of the untruthful method and only about 2% of the method that always selects high-degree neighbors. The median length of social referral chains is 6 using our localized search decision, which surprisingly matches the well-known small-world phenomenon of global social structures.

This paper presents an investigation on how different walking surfaces affect gait identification based on accelerometer data. Accelerometer data of 5 subjects walking on 4 different solid surfaces was acquired on 3 different days by a cell phone placed on the subject's hip. Data analysis detects gait cycles by a method based on wavelet transform. For all gait cycles, features were calculated by using higher-order statistics. Similarity estimation for discerning the different subjects and surfaces was introduced by using principal component analysis (PCA). It proved that the different solid surfaces do not influence the efficiency of the identification of subjects based on their gait. © 2011 IEEE.

The paper presents a method for monitoring heartbeats based on time-frequency analysis of optic interferometric signal by using smoothed pseudo Wigner-Ville distribution. Optical interferometer is a sensitive device that detects physical changes of the length of optical fibre. When put in mattress, heartbeats of a subject lying on the fibre causes its perturbation. This allows entirely unobtrusive and continuous monitoring of subject's heart rate by processing interferometric signal. Reference ECG signals were acquired in order to verify recognition rate and accuracy of proposed method. An experiment with 6 subjects was performed. Interferometric and referential signals were acquired simultaneously for about 60 s. The obtained results show high recognition rate (about 97% with persons breathing and 98% with persons holding their breath).

Recent study has shown that accurate knowledge of the false negative rate (FNR) of tests can significantly improve the diagnostic accuracy of spectrum-based fault localization. To understand the principles behind FNR modeling in this paper we study three error propagation probability (EPP) modeling approaches applied to a number of logic circuits from the 74XXX/ISCAS-85 benchmark suite. Monte Carlo simulations for random injected faults show that a deterministic approach that models gate behavior provides high accuracy (O(1%)), while probabilistic approaches that abstract from gate modeling generate higher prediction errors (O(10%)), which increase with the number of injected faults.

The paper analyzed and model of a fault tolerant electromechanical controlled worm gear driven fuel shut off valve for aerospace application. The analysis is mainly on design a reduced order fractional controller. This is for controlling the velocity of worm gear so that the friction torque due to uneven rotational speed can be avoided. Because with the friction and stiction and backlash the valve system performance is reduced and more and more unstable this leads the system to failure. The proposed controller can provide robustness against the uncertain loading torque and system parameter. © 2011 IEEE.

software systems represent one of the most complex man-made systems. In this paper, we analyze the evolution of Object-Oriented (OO) software using complex network theory from a multi-granularity perspective. First, the software net works are constructed for a multi-version software system at different levels of granularity. Then, some parameters used in complex network theory are introduced to study the topological characteristics of these software networks. By investigating the parameters' values in consecutive software networks, we have a better understanding about software evolution. A case study on an open source OO project, Azureus, is conducted as an example to illustrate our approach. It uncovers some underlying dynamic characteristics of OO systems. These results provide a different dimension to our understanding of software system dynamics and also are very useful for the design and development of OO software systems.

In this study, a new type of trigonometric neural network is presented by adding frequency and phase to trigonometric activation functions. The proposed trigonometric neural network has more flexibility in comparison with conventional trigonometric neural networks and even other types of neural networks. Due to the low convergence rate and high posibility of trapping in a local minimum of backpropagation algorithm, Extended Kalman Filter algorithm is used to train the neural network's parameters which they appear in a nonlinear form. The Simulation of the suggested neural network based on the prediction of Mackey-Glass time series and identification of a nonlinear dynamic ystem reveals the efficiency of the proposed network. To show the efficiency of this method, the results are compared with the results of the others.
