Multiagent fault‐diagnosis expert system in power systems

作者： Wang, J.P. Trécat, J. Dr. Jianping Wang is a doctor fellow in the Faculte Polytechnique de Mons in Belgium. His current research field is parallel processing applications in power systems. Dr. Wang obtained his BS degree from Southwest Jiaotong University in P.R. Chinain 1982. From 1982 to 1990 he was appointed as an assistant lecturer. lecturer and associate professor respectively in the electrical engineering department of Southwest Jiaotong University. Trécat is a director in the power system laboratory in the Faculty Polytechnique de Mons. He obtained his Ph.D in the University of Manchester Institute of Science and Technology(UM1ST) in U.K. in 1970. He has been working in the fields of power system automation artificial intelligence application and computer vision in the Facult6 Polytechnique de Mons since 1970. In order to solve the speed problem and shallow reasoning problem met in current research in fault diagnosis expert system, this paper presents a model based parallel fault diagnosis expert system for energy management systems (EMS). The Petri net model, which corresponds to the relationship between power system components and their protection systems, has been used for the inference in fault diagnosis. A multiagent parallel processing expert system, which is based on five transputers in Sun workstation, has been built for fault diagnosis purposes. The test results show that this expert system is not only fast but also has better performances. Copyright © 1995 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.

Kerr electro-optic field mapping measurements using the sensitive AC modulation method were made in liquid nitrogen. The steady-state electric fields between parallel stainless steel electrodes that had a gap of 7 mm are shown to be essentially uniform for voltages up to 70 kV with no significant space charge distortion. The Kerr constant B of liquid nitrogen is constant over the AC modulation frequency range of 1-20 kHz, while increasing above 20 kHz. This change of B with the modulation frequency coincides with the frequency-amplitude gain characteristic of the lock-in amplifier used, so that B is independent of the AC modulation frequency within the range of this study. B monotonically decreases with increasing temperature, T, thus decreasing liquid nitrogen density, rho , so that B is related linearly to rho /T. The polarizability anisotropy of liquid nitrogen is evaluated to be 8.3*10/sup -41/ F-m/sup 2/ from the slope of the B-( rho /T) characteristic, obtained from a simple physical model.< >

He earned his BS degree in electrical engineering from Villanova University in 1967 an MSEE degree from the University of Maryland in 1972 and an MS degree in technical management from The Johns Hopkins University in 1985. He was the lead engineer on the Command Support At-Sea Experiment Project. He started his career in 1967 with the U.S. Army Harry Diamond Laboratory working on computer and communications projects. During this time he worked in Vietnam with the United States Army Vietnam Science Advisor Office. Since joining JHU/APL in 1978 he has worked on a variety of projects associated with computer graphics hospital patient information systems computer networks autonomous underwater vehicles and satellite communications. He is currently assistant group supervisor of the Computer Systems Group. Daniel M. Sunday:is a mathematician on the Principal Professional Staff of the Fleet Systems Department of The Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory. He earned his Ph.D. in mathematics from the University of Minnesota in 1971 and did postdoctoral research on neural networks at the University of California at Berkeley. Since joining JHU/APL in 1980 Dr. Sunday has worked as a designer and developer of software systems with emphasis on medical imaging interactive graphics natural language interfaces and software standards. He was the network designer for the Headquarters Integrated Office System (HIOS) Network for the Army at the Pentagon. He is currently the lead software engineer on the Command Support At-Sea Experiment Project.

The Command Support At-Sea Experiment (CS@SE) provides experimental advanced graphics display systems consisting of large screen color displays and operator console color displays in the combat information center (CIC) of an Aegis cruiser and in the tactical flag command center (TFCC) of an aircraft carrier. CS@SE systems are designed to prototype potential command support capabilities in an at-sea environment to validate and refine requirements for planned production system upgrades. These systems use sophisticated color graphics techniques to provide real-time tactical displays that improve the availability of information to an operator by reducing clutter through the use of color, area fill, transparen overlays and intensity coding of track symbols. Interfaces wen developed with the Aegis Display system (ADS), Shipboarc Gridlock system with Auto-correlation (SGS/AC), Flag Dats Display system (FDDS) and Tomahawk Engagement Planning and Exercise Evaluation system (TEPEE) that provided the data for the presentation of a tactical display. Display elements included both real-time and over-the-horizon (OTH) surface track data, velocity leaders, tags, uncertainty ellipses, and history trails. The display also included filled land masses, country boundaries, commercial airways, cities, graphics overlays (i.e., operational areas), weapon system missile performance contours, and engagement plans. This paper describes the experiment, its installation and integration into the shipboard environments of an Aegis cruiser (USS Leyte Gulf ) and an aircraft carrier (USS America , its usage by the ships companies and embarked staffs, and the experiment result! and findings. Key conclusions of the experiment are: 1 Advanced graphics color displays can significantly enhance the ability of the warfighter to assimilate a complex tactical display. 2 Both ships reported a requirement for a correlated OTH and real-time track display with the ability to clearly differentiate the two types

The 2010 Pacific-Rim Conference on Multimedia (PCM 2010) was held in Shanghai at Fudan University, during September 21–24, 2010. Since its inauguration in 2000, PCM has been held in various places around the Pacific Rim, namely Sydney (PCM 2000), Beijing (PCM 2001), Hsinchu (PCM 2002), Singapore (PCM 2003), Tokyo (PCM 2004), Jeju (PCM 2005), Zhejiang (PCM 2006), Hong Kong (PCM 2007), Tainan (PCM 2008), and Bangkok (PCM 2009). PCM is a major annual international conference organized as a forum for the dissemination of state-of-the-art technological advances and research results in the fields of theoretical, experimental, and applied multimedia analysis and processing. PCM 2010 featured a comprehensive technical program which included 75 oral and 56 poster presentations selected from 261 submissions from Australia, Canada, China, France, Germany, Hong Kong, India, Iran, Italy, Japan, Korea, Myanmar, Norway, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand, the UK, and the USA. Three distinguished researchers, Prof. Zhi-Hua Zhou from Nanjing University, Dr. Yong Rui from Microsoft, and Dr. Tie-Yan Liu from Microsoft Research Asia delivered three keynote talks to the conference. We are very grateful to the many people who helped to make this conference a s- cess. We would like to especially thank Hong Lu for local organization, Qi Zhang for handling the publication of the proceedings, and Cheng Jin for looking after the c- ference website and publicity. Secure Collaborative Learning for Self-Adaptive systems on Connected Autonomous Vehicles

As an advanced carrier of on-board sensors, connected autonomous vehicle (CAV) can be viewed as an aggregation of self-adaptive systems with monitor-analyze-plan-execute (MAPE) for vehicle-related services. Meanwhile, machine learning (ML) has been applied to enhance analysis and plan functions of MAPE so that self-adaptive systems have optimal adaption to changing conditions. However, most of ML-based approaches don’t utilize CAVs’ connectivity to collaboratively generate an optimal learner for MAPE, because of sensor data threatened by gradient leakage attack (GLA). In this article, we first design an intelligent architecture for MAPE-based self-adaptive systems on Web 3.0-based CAVs, in which a collaborative machine learner supports the capabilities of managing systems. Then, we observe by practical experiments that importance sampling of sparse vector technique (SVT) approaches cannot defend GLA well. Next, we propose a fine-grained SVT approach to secure the learner in MAPE-based self-adaptive systems, that uses layer and gradient sampling to select uniform and important gradients. At last, extensive experiments show that our private learner spends a slight utility cost for MAPE (e.g., \(0.77\%\) decrease in accuracy) defending GLA and outperforms the typical SVT approaches in terms of defense (increased by \(10\%\sim 14\%\) attack success rate) and utility (decreased by \(1.29\%\) accuracy loss).

This LNCS volume contains the papers presented at SEAL 2008, the 7th Int- nationalConference on Simulated Evolutionand Learning,held December 7–10, 2008, in Melbourne, Australia. SEAL is a prestigious international conference series in evolutionary computation and learning. This biennial event was ?rst held in Seoul, Korea, in 1996, and then in Canberra, Australia (1998), Nagoya, Japan (2000), Singapore (2002), Busan, Korea (2004), and Hefei, China (2006). SEAL 2008 received 140 paper submissions from more than 30 countries. After a rigorous peer-review process involving at least 3 reviews for each paper (i.e., over 420 reviews in total), the best 65 papers were selected to be presented at the conference and included in this volume, resulting in an acceptance rate of about 46%. The papers included in this volume cover a wide range of topics in simulated evolution and learning: from evolutionarylearning to evolutionary optimization, from hybrid systems to adaptive systems, from theoretical issues to real-world applications. They represent some of the latest and best research in simulated evolution and learning in the world.
