In traditional circuit designs, rows within the placement region typically have uniform height. However, a novel hybrid-row-height design paradigm has recently emerged, integrating tall and short rows within the placement region. This innovative approach enhances optimization opportunities for power, performance, and area. Nevertheless, it poses new challenges in placement legalization due to the heterogeneous row and cell structures. Therefore, this paper proposes an effective legalization algorithm with cell version replacement for hybrid-row-height circuit designs. Our approach takes full advantage of multiple versions of the same cell, each with varying dimensions (heights and widths), to incorporate a mechanism for cell version replacement throughout the legalization process. This consideration can help to obtain a legal placement that more closely resembles the global placement, consequently mitigating the increase in half-perimeter wirelength (HPWL). Simul-taneously, it can ensure that the tall-row and short-row resources are not overused, avoiding a non-legal placement. Compared with a baseline and a recent work, experimental results show that our algorithm can achieve the smallest HPWL and runtime.

A dual-band and dual-polarized antenna with the operating bands of 3.3-3.8 GHz (n78) and 4.4-5.0 GHz (n79) for 5G base station is proposed. Two perpendicularity slotted dipoles printed on a 1.5 mm thick FR4 substrate are used as main radiator to realize the dualband characteristic. Two Γ-shaped crossed baluns are used as feeding network. The upper and down stubs of balun are inserted into the antenna radiator and ground to ensure a good impedance machining accuracy. Simulated results demonstrate that the antenna has a gain about 8 dBi, a wide bandwidth up to 2 GHz and isolation is better than 20 dB. © 2024 IEEE.

Although smart meters bring convenience to people’s lives, they also bring unnecessary losses to grid operations due to intrinsic defects. Compared with traditional electric meters, the smart meters are susceptible to interference from external magnetic fields, and may stop charging when strong interference occurs, which reduce its reliability. This also brings opportunities for lawbreakers, and the phenomenon of electricity leakage occurs from time to time. In order to overcome the shortcomings of electric meters, this project makes an in-depth research on high frequency electromagnetic field monitoring technology, and carries out the antenna simulation technique, the envelope detection technique and the alarming control system design based on the experimental data of high frequency electromagnetic field environmental parameter monitoring. A technical solution that can quickly detect external high-frequency interference sources and give alarm when stealing occurs is proposed, and a high frequency electromagnetic field monitoring module is designed to protect the operating environment of the meter. © 2021, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

Phased arrays are vital in communication systems and have received significant interest in the field of optoelectronics and photonics, enabling a wide range of applications such as LiDAR, holography, wireless communication, etc. In this work, we present a blazed grating antenna that is optimized to have upward radiation efficiency as high as 80% with a compact footprint of 3.5 µm×2 µm at an operational wavelength of 1.55 µm. Our numerical investigations demonstrate that this antenna in a 64×64 phased array configuration is capable of producing desired far-field radiation patterns. Additionally, our antenna possesses a low side lobe level of -9.7 dB and a negligible reflection efficiency of under 1%, making it an attractive candidate for integrated optical phased arrays. © 2023, CC BY.

The cerebellum is a crucial component of the human body that plays a vital role in human walking. To design a robot gait controller by referring the working mechanism of the cerebellum is one of the hotspots in the bionic control field. This paper designs a bionic cerebellar motion control model to control the slope gait of a humanoid robot. The cerebellum model refers to the connection method between neurons in a human cerebellum, and expresses from a bionic perspective how the neurons in the cerebellum process external information and generate control commands during walking. Inspired by how human walking is learned, this model employs reinforcement learning in the learning process of the bionic cerebellar model. A corresponding simulation environment is also designed to train and test the cerebellar control model's effectiveness when regulating a robot's slope walking stability. The simulation experimental results demonstrate that the cerebellum model can achieve stable control of the walking motion of the humanoid robot after training, verifying its effectiveness, and laying a foundation for further realization of human-like artificial intelligence. © 2022 The Authors. This study presents a novel microwave humidity sensor that utilizes a complementary interdigital capacitor resonator (CIDCR), an advanced design derived from the traditional complementary split ring resonator (CSRR) structure. The CIDCR design enhances the sensor's performance by concentrating the electric field in a more compact region, leading to improved sensitivity and miniaturization. The sensor is coated with a composite film of chitosan (CS) and polyacrylamide-glycerol (PAMG), combining the high moisture sensitivity of PAMG with the stability of CS. The CIDCR-based sensor demonstrates superior performance, including high sensitivity, a broad detection range, rapid response/recovery times, and excellent long-term stability. Density functional theory (DFT) calculations further elucidate the moisture-sensitive mechanisms at the molecular level, highlighting the role of hydrogen bonding in the composite film. Application tests confirm the sensor's potential for use in respiratory monitoring, non-contact sensing, and health monitoring, showcasing the advantages of the CIDCR structure in achieving enhanced humidity sensing capabilities. © 2024, The Authors. This extended abstract presents first results of a research project that addresses an approach to verify the functionality of Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs). The main feature of this technique is concentrated on its ability to automatically generate functional test cases for a test platform completely from a formal test specification without any implementation details. The resulting platform provides the environment of the PLC, consisting of the PLC testbench in Structured Text (ST) format and test patterns. The specification is modeled in a complete property set using InTerval Language (ITL), while input and output signal types are defined using VHDL. Because the current meter does not have the function of detecting electromagnetic fields, there is nothing to do when the meter is disturbed by the high-power electromagnetic field. In order to avoid this kind of electricity stealing behavior, this paper studies how to quickly detect the electromagnetic interference outside the meter based on the characteristics of the meter itself, and timely implement the alarm to prevent electricity theft. In this paper, a feasible and effective electromagnetic field detection technology scheme is proposed, which can detect the electromagnetic field strength around the electric energy meter in real time. When the electromagnetic field intensity reaches the threshold value that affects the metering function of the electric function meter, the electromagnetic field detection module will perform alarm behavior. © 2021, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

Increasing the Field-of-View Radiation Efficiency of Optical Phased Antenna Arrays

Silicon photonics in conjunction with complementary metal-oxide-semiconductor (CMOS) fabrication has greatly enhanced the development of integrated optical phased arrays. This facilitates a dynamic control of light in a compact form factor that enables the synthesis of arbitrary complex wavefronts in the infrared spectrum. We numerically demonstrate a large-scale two dimensional silicon-based optical phased array (OPA) composed of nanoantennas with circular gratings that are balanced in power and aligned in phase, required for producing elegant radiation patterns in the far-field. For a wavelength of 1.55 µm, we optmize two antennas for the OPA exhibting an upward radiation efficiency as high as 90%, with almost 6.8% of optical power concentrated in the field of view. Additionally, we believe that the proposed OPAs can be easily fabricated and would have the ability of generating complex holographic images, rendering them an attractive candidate for a wide range of applications like LiDAR sensors, optical trapping, optogenetic stimulation and augmented-reality displays. In this article, the first demonstration of planar geometry Ge PIN short-wave infrared (SWIR) photodetectors (PDs) on a germanium-on-insulator (GOI) platform has been presented. The intrinsic layer Ge contains four Ge0.86Si0.14multiple quantum wells (MQWs). The structural characteristics, material quality, and interface integrity of the PDs were investigated by using high-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HR-TEM) and high-resolution X-ray diffraction (HR-XRD). The devices exhibited a 3.12 mA/cm2dark current density and a low bulk leakage current density of 0.94 mA/cm2at −1 V. The integration of tensile-strained GeSi/Ge MQWs significantly enhanced the responsivity while maintaining a relatively lower dark current density, thereby broadening the spectral response range to 1700 nm. The notably high responsivities at 1310 and 1550 nm are 0.99 and 0.78 A/W, respectively, corresponding to external quantum efficiencies (EQEs) of 93.7 and 62.4%. Furthermore, the optical confinement effect inherent to this type of GOI structure contributed to a pronounced enhancement in the responsivity across the O, E, S, and C bands, with a peak responsivity of 1.11 A/W at 1475 nm. These findings underscore the potential of CMOS-compatible GOI platforms with MQWs hybrid intrinsic regions for diversified optoelectronic applications. Additionally, the demonstrated planar geometry Ge PIN PDs on insulator substrates exhibit excellent prospects for high-resolution SWIR imaging, which pave the way for advancements in next-generation photonic and sensing technologies.
