This paper is concerned with the problems of H-two filtering for discrete-time Markovian jump linear systems subject to logarithmic quantization. We assume that only the output of the system is available, and therefore the mode information is nonaccessible. In this paper, a mode-independent quantized H-two filter is designed such that filter error system is stochastically stable. To this end, sufficient conditions for the existence of an upper bound of H-two norm are presented in terms of linear matrix inequalities. Considering uncertainty of system matrices, a robust H-two filter is designed. The proposed method is also applicable to cover the case where the transition probability matrix is not exactly known but belongs to a given polytope. Finally, numerical examples are provided to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed approach.

The long term geo-electric potential (LTGP) signals measured in a variety of experiment contexts have shown strong indications on their precursor nature to major earthquake events. Measurements of LTGP signals in Western Greece have been collected for more than twenty years. The measured signals are processed in several ways to extract features with a direct correlation to major earthquake events. In the field of spectral analysis, new methods that do not imply linearity and stationarity of the analysed signal have been introduced. Such a novel promising method is the Teager Huang Transform (THT) that combines Empirical Mode Decomposition (EMD) of a signal to a number of components on which the application of Teager Kaiser Operator (TKO) can lead to a sufficient estimation of the signal's spectral content. In this paper, we apply the TKO, EMD and THT on LTGP signals, aiming to have an accurate view of LTGP signals content precursor to major earthquake events.

Detection of gear cracks from vibration data is a difficult task. This paper investigates an alternative to the linear predictor residual fault detection based on the nonlinear adaptive controlsystem concept of frequency estimators. The frequency estimator model takes advantage of the sinusoidal nature of vibration and adapts the system model during operation. The low-computational requirements, no-priori knowledge, sinusoidal-based prediction, and on-line model adaption makes this model ideal for on-line gear crack fault detection. Performance is evaluated through both synthetic and experimental data while comparing to the autoregressive linear predictor model.
