The cooperative output regulation problem has been extensively studied on the basis of the distributed observer approach. However, the majority of the existing research assumes that the dynamics is known previously. To remove this condition, the cooperative output regulation problem is further solved via the data-driven framework where the dynamics of the plant is unknown. First, a data-driven distributed observer is established to estimate the state of the leader with unknown dynamics subject to external inputs. Second, the unknown regulator equations are solved using the iterative recurrent neural network approach. Third, the state-based data-driven distributed control law is synthesized to solve the problem. The optimal gains are derived by solving convex optimization problems using input and state data. Finally, a numerical example is presented to verify the feasibility of the proposed framework.

Network communication has been proven to be a very important tool and a key factor in the recent development and progress of the power grid operation. It is also considered as the foundation for the smart grid because information and communication are integrated into electricity distribution to achieve reliable and accurate knowledge of the power grid. In previous years, absorbing energy from substations and delivering it to customers was the only type of interaction we knew between utility companies and customers. Presently, the growing connections of small distributed generation units caused by the cost reduction of most of the technologies used in the generation and storage of electrical energy, along with the potential benefits of renewable energy have pushed many researchers to look into the improvement of information and communication technologies (ICT) in order to ensure a bidirectional flow of power and data. Moreover, the evolution of information and communication technologies and its applications to smart grid have converted the smart grid into a cyber-physical system where vulnerabilities and additional security challenges such as cyber-threats and cyber-attacks have emerged. Previously, we have demonstrated that using machine learning-based processing on data gathered from communication networks and the power grid was a promising solution for detecting cyber threats by implementing a co-simulation of cyber-security for cross-layer strategy. Since the majority of the challenges observed can only be solved in the network communication layer, we present in this work a physics-based state estimation model of the communication network system towards enhanced cyber-physical security of the smart grid. Information integration with the previously developed machine learning model is developed, providing an enhanced cyber-physical security application for the smart grid. In real-world datasets, leveraging the low-rank and sparsity properties enables developing efficient algorithms across a diverse array of data-related tasks, including compression, compressed sensing, matrix completion, etc. Notably, these two properties often coexist in certain real-world datasets, especially in Boolean datasets and quantized real-valued datasets. To harness the advantages of low-rank and sparsity simultaneously, we adopt a technique inspired by compressed sensing and Boolean matrix completion. Our approach entails compressing a low-rank sparse Boolean matrix by performing inner product operations with a randomly generated Boolean matrix. We then propose a decoding algorithms based on message-passing techniques to recover the original matrix. Our experiments demonstrate superior recovery performance of our proposed algorithms compared to Boolean matrix completion, with equal measurement requirements.

In the last three years, a new partner has emerged for teachers and educators in the field of education. The mushrooming of applications based on large language models has greatly shaped the educational development fields of the present era. The use of various AI applications has become commonplace among students and teachers alike. Many questions are being raised by researchers in this field. What does the rapid development of AI applications bring to the field of pedagogy? Should the products of such applications be compared with human performance? The form presented in this thesis seeks to answer similar questions. What is the impact of frequent use of these applications on the literacy level of individuals? In which areas do students tend to use these applications? The results indicate that half of the students believe their literacy levels will decrease with the mass emergence of AI applications, while 36% feel it will not change. However, 88 % of students have already dealt with AI-based applications, with 64 % using them several times or more, suggesting a high level of integration into their educational processes.

Micro-calorimetry targeting sub-nanowatt resolution is fundamental for high-resolution thermal applications in the biological and chemical domains. Also, CMOS compatibility is crucial for system-on-chip devices in line with current technological trends, as well as point-of-care portability, low-cost batch production, ease of fabrication, and miniaturization represent significant strengths. However, compatibilization issues like size disparity, bonding strength, lack of standardization and electrical-fluidic ports mixture, faced when integrating a CMOS die within a microfluidics platform represent major challenges up to date. In this work, we demonstrate a Lab-on-CMOS micro-calorimeter combining a CMOS-MEMS 4-MHz CC-Beam as resonant temperature sensing element and a PDMS-based microfluidics platform for micro-channel routing to achieve sub-mK temperature resolution and ultra-fast response in a 500-pL reaction chamber.

Due to increasing the demand for using photovoltaic power system that uses sustainable and renewable energy sources to meet power demand, many studies were investigated to improve the photovoltaic power system operation. In this paper, the power system quality will be discussed to show the impact of power quality on the electrical grid by analyzing the nominal current and voltage output from the inverter at different weather conditions and different switching frequencies. Power quality is considered one of the major issues that need to be addressed. The low quality ofpower operation may cause disturbance and economic losses. The realtime simulation will be done by using MATLAB/Simulink.

As the adoption for electric vehicles (EV) increases, the need for proper charging infrastructure also increases. As such, it is necessary to ensure proper charging infrastructure to meet the charging demand. Hence, studies concerning the planning of EV charging stations which include the sizing of distributed energy resources (DERs) in the station to reduce the peak demand on the grid. In this paper, EV charging stations were designed keeping in mind factors such as the EV charging load profile (on demand charging versus deferred charging), uncertainties in the load profile as well as the tariff rates. A sensitivity analysis was also carried out in order to examine the impact of several techno-economic parameters on the overall cost of the system.

The least squares estimator is the most popular identification method. In the absence of prior knowledge on the unknown noise, uniform weights on all samples are often as-sumed. In reality, potentially unknown contamination is always present and the uniform weights are not necessarily the best. Further, explicit information about the nature of contamination is usually absent. To this end, a relaxed-tilted least squares method is proposed here to assign unequal weights so that the effect of undesired noise contamination can be mitigated. The relaxed-tilted least squares method tilts the uniform prior on the samples so as to move the uniform distribution in a direction that enjoys the smallest estimation error in the neighborhood of the uniform distribution. Theoretical results are established including the ability of outlier removal and the guaranteed parameter convergence in the presence of outliers. Numerical algorithms are proposed and simulated, which support the theoretical derivations.

We report the theoretical and experimental investigation of pentamer arrangements of nanoholes in a thin Au film arrayed over a large area. The pentamer arrangements support coupled plasmonic resonances localized to the nanoholes that exhibit a high near-field sensitivity and low polarization dependance. The structures are compelling for applications in biosensing and in surface enhanced Raman scattering (SERS).
