Data-driven output regulation control for constrained linear systems

This study introduces a data-driven approach for state and output feedback control addressing the constrained output regulation problem in unknown linear discrete-time systems. Our method ensures effective tracking performance while satisfying the state and input constraints, even when system matrices are not available. We first establish a sufficient condition necessary for the existence of a solution pair to the regulator equation and propose a data-based approach to obtain the feedforward and feedback control gains for state feedback control using linear programming. Furthermore, we design a refined Luenberger observer to accurately estimate the system state, while keeping the estimation error within a predefined set. By combining output regulation theory, we develop an output feedback control strategy. The stability of the closed-loop system is rigorously proved to be asymptotically stable by further leveraging the concept of λ-contractive sets.

Conventionally, a virtual synchronous generator (VSG) is designed for islanded mode (IM) operation to meet specific operational requirements such as the rate of change of frequency (RoCoF). However, the operation of VSG designed for IM may not meet the operational and control criteria in grid connected mode (GCM) when the grid conditions vary. In addition, conventional VSG control technology does not consider the influence of the presynchronization scheme when connected to a weak grid, which degrades the RoCoF in IM. To overcome the aforementioned challenges, the proposed study presents a twin-delayed deep deterministic policy gradient (TD3) algorithm to improve the seamless transition performance of VSG from IM to GCM and vice versa. In the first step, the VSG-based power system model is used as a foundation for problem formulation of the proposed TD3 algorithm. Secondly, a reward function is designed according to the performance requirements, i.e., frequency and RoCoF requirements, of the VSG in order to guide the training of the agent in varying load, power reference, and grid conditions. Finally, the superiority of the proposed algorithm over existing methods is validated in MATLAB/SIMULINK and RTDS based real-time simulation environment. © 1986-2012 IEEE.

Graph neural networks (GNNs) are a class of deep learning (DL) models widely-used for learning latent representations of graph-structured data for a variety of node/graph-level prediction tasks. Real-time applications of GNNs are evolving in various domains such as 3D object detection from LiDAR point clouds in autonomous vehicles [1] and classifying collected data in particle physics colliders [2]. Typically, these use cases have stringent latency constraints but can still benefit from batch processing of multiple graphs from different input sources. Existing accelerators either rely on preprocessing input graphs [3], [4] or are extremely specialized streaming pipelines which are unable to support dynamically changing workloads for these applications [5]. In this work, we take a different approach by enhancing the neural processing unit (NPU) [6] to accelerate a wide variety of GNN models without sacrificing its flexibility, performance or ability to run any of its originally supported DL workloads (e.g. MLPs, RNNs, GRUs, LSTMs). © 2024 IEEE.

ELCD-NSC2: a novel early lung cancer detection and non-small cell classification framework

The survival rate of lung cancer relies significantly on how far the disease has spread when it is detected, how it reacts to the treatment, the patient’s overall health, and other factors. Therefore, the earlier the lung cancer diagnosis, the higher the survival rate. For radiologists, recognizing malignant lung nodules from computed tomography (CT) scans is a challenging and time-consuming process. As a result, computer-aided diagnosis (CAD) systems have been suggested to alleviate these burdens. Deep-learning approaches have demonstrated remarkable results in recent years, surpassing traditional methods in different fields. Researchers are currently experimenting with several deep-learning strategies to increase the effectiveness of CAD systems in lung cancer detection with CT. This work proposes a deep-learning framework for detecting and diagnosing lung cancer. The proposed framework used recent deep-learning techniques in all its layers. The autoencoder technique structure is tuned and used in the preprocessing stage to denoise and reconstruct the medical lung cancer dataset. Besides, it depends on the transfer learning pre-trained models to make multi-classification among different lung cancer cases such as benign, adenocarcinoma, and squamous cell carcinoma. The proposed model provides high performance while recognizing and differentiating between two types of datasets, including biopsy and CT scans. The Cancer Imaging Archive and Kaggle datasets are utilized to train and test the proposed model. The empirical results show that the proposed framework performs well according to various performance metrics. According to accuracy, precision, recall, F1-score, and AUC metrics, it achieves 99.60, 99.61, 99.62, 99.70, and 99.75%, respectively. Also, it depicts 0.0028, 0.0026, and 0.0507 in mean absolute error, mean squared error, and root mean square error metrics. Social NSTransformers: Low-Quality Pedestrian Trajectory Prediction

This article introduces a novel model for low-quality pedestrian trajectory prediction, the social nonstationary transformers (NSTransformers), that merges the strengths of NSTransformers and spatiotemporal graph transformer (STAR). The model can capture social interaction cues among pedestrians and integrate features across spatial and temporal dimensions to enhance the precision and resilience of trajectory predictions. We also propose an enhanced loss function that combines diversity loss with logarithmic root mean squared error (log-RMSE) to guarantee the reasonableness and diversity of the generated trajectories. This design adapts well to complex pedestrian interaction scenarios, thereby improving the reliability and accuracy of trajectory prediction. Furthermore, we integrate a generative adversarial network (GAN) to model the randomness inherent in pedestrian trajectories. Compared to the conventional standard Gaussian distribution, our GAN approach better simulates the intricate distribution found in pedestrian trajectories, enhancing the trajectory prediction's diversity and robustness. Experimental results reveal that our model outperforms several state-of-the-art methods. This research opens the avenue for future exploration in low-quality pedestrian trajectory prediction. © 2024 IEEE.

Motivated by the increasing requirements in positioning precision for lithography applications, this paper analyzes how the position error in a high-precision motion system is affected by the response of the controlled power amplifier that drives the motor. Based on the analysis, guidelines for designing a reference model in continuous or discrete time that satisfies certain requirements that would decrease the overall position error are presented. Then, a data-driven control method, namely Virtual Reference Feedback Tuning (VRFT), is employed to directly synthesize both feedback and feedforward controllers based on the designed reference model. The position error of the motion system with the data-driven controlled power amplifier is compared to the case when classical industrial controllers are employed in the control of the amplifier. If adequate reference models are designed, the VRFT-controlled power amplifier can significantly decrease the position error such that it is close to the ideal position error. All of the presented results are based on simulations. © 2023 IEEE.

Modular multilevel converters (MMCs) have the potential to improve the performance of high- and medium-power applications, such as renewable energy generation and fast charging stations. The functioning of MMCs relies on their ability to balance capacitor voltages across all modules. Motivated by the capacitor voltage balancing (CVB) problem, this paper studies consensus-based distributed model predictive control (DMPC) schemes. As a result, we propose an alternative cost function that enables output synchronization of linear systems and, consequently, solves the CVB problem. The advantages of the proposed method are demonstrated by proving its stability properties and comparing its computational time and performance with existing DMPCs. Simulation results for a benchmark multi-agent system example from the literature and an MMC AC/DC topology demonstrate the effectiveness of the developed consensus DMPC. © 2023 IEEE.

Dear Editor,This letter is concerned with prescribed-time Nash equilibrium(PTNE)seeking problem in a pursuit-evasion game(PEG)involving agents with second-order *** order to achieve the prior-given and user-defined convergence time for the PEG,a PTNE seeking algorithm has been developed to facilitate collaboration among multiple pursuers for capturing the evader without the need for any global ***,it is theoretically proved that the prescribedtime convergence of the designed algorithm for achieving Nash equilibrium of ***,the effectiveness of the PTNE method was validated by numerical simulation results.A PEG consists of two groups of agents:evaders and *** pursuers aim to capture the evaders through cooperative efforts,while the evaders strive to evade *** is a classic noncooperative *** has attracted plenty of attention due to its wide application scenarios,such as smart grids[1],formation control[2],[3],and spacecraft rendezvous[4].It is noteworthy that most previous research on seeking the Nash equilibrium of the game,where no agent has an incentive to change its actions,has focused on asymptotic and exponential convergence[5]-[7].
