This paper proposes a supervisory control structure for networked systems with time-varying delays. The control structure, in which a supervisor triggers the most appropriate controller from a multi-controller unit, aims at improving the closed-loop performance relative to what can be obtained using a single robust controller. Our analysis considers average dwelltime switching and is based on a novel multiple Lyapunov-Krasovskii functional. We develop analysis conditions that can be verified by semi-definite programming, and show that associated state feedback synthesis problem also can be solved using convex optimization. Small and large scale networked control systems are used to illustrate the effectiveness of our approach. © 2012 IFAC.

In this paper, we study two-player evolutionary prisoner's dilemma on regular graphs and identify the stochastically stable equilibria for infinite populations. We consider four different update rules: Birth-death(BD), death-birth(DB), imitation(IM) and pairwise comparison(PC). With the same values of cost and benefit of cooperation, we show that there is a unique stochastically stable equilibrium for evolutionary prisoner's dilemma on regular graphs. If the benefit-to-cost ratio is larger than k + 2 (k is the degree of a regular graph), the networked game has a higher fraction of cooperators than that for a well-mixed population. Under certain conditions, the lower graph connectivity can lead to the emergence of more cooperators. Besides theoretical analysis, we demonstrate our results through numerical computations and simulations as well. © 2018 IEEE.

Model and Algorithm for the Vendor-Warehouse Transportation and Inventory Problem in a Three-Level Distribution System

We consider the inventory-routing problem in a three-level distribution system with a single vendor, a single warehouse and many geographically dispersed retailers. In this problem, each retailer faces a demand at a deterministic, retailer-specific rate. The demand of each retailer is replenished either from the warehouse by a small vehicle or from the vendor bypassing the warehouse by a big vehicle. Inventories are kept not only at the retailers but also at the warehouse. The objective is to find a combined inventory policy and routing pattern minimizing a long-run average system-wide cost while meeting the demand of each retailer without shortage. We present an efficient solution approach based on a fixed partition policy where the retailers are partitioned into disjoint and collectively exhaustive sets and each set of retailers is served on a separate route. Given a fixed partition, the original problem is decomposed into three subproblems. In this paper, we focus on the modelling and resolution of the vendor-warehouse transportation and inventory subproblem. We demonstrate that the subproblem can be reduced to a C/C/C/Z capacitated dynamic lot sizing problem and there exists an algorithm to solve the reduced problem to optimality in O( T 2 ) time.

A procedure for global optimization of PID type controller parameters for SISO plants with model uncertainty is presented. Robustness to the uncertainties is guaranteed by the use of Horowitz bounds, which are used as constraints when low frequency performance is optimized. The basic idea of both the optimization and the parameter tuning is to formulate separate criteria for low, mid and high frequency closed loop properties. The trade-off between stability margins, high frequency robustness and low frequency performance is then elucidated and, hence, the final choice of parameters is facilitated. The optimization problems are non-convex and ill-conditioned and we use a combination of new global and standard local optimization algorithms available in the TOMLAB optimization environment to solve the problem. The method does not rely on a good initial guess and converges fast and robustly. It is applied to a controller structure comparison for a plant with an uncertain mechanical resonance. For a given control activity and stability margin as well as identical tuning parameters it is shown that a PID controller achieves slightly improved low frequency performance compared to an H∞ controller based on loop-shaping. The reason for this somewhat surprising result is the roll-off in the H∞ controller, which adds additional high frequency robustness compared to the PID controller. Computationally, a factor of 10-20 has been gained compared to an earlier, less general, version of the procedure. Copyright © 2002 IFAC.

the DC/AC interaction and the presence of the high nonlinearity in the HVDC links, these problems needs to examine the behavior of the system in steady-state and transient conditions in order to define the great role of protection functions and control parameters. Furthermore, control and protection systems are a vital part of an HVDC system to guarantee the safety, reliability, and stability of its operation. This research aim is to provide the solutions for control and protection problems that can occur in HVDC link. In this paper, we study how we mitigate this serious malfunction of commutation failure process in the operation of HVDC converters. Indeed some protection functions like the commutation failure prevention. Furthermore, HVDC transmission systems are vulnerable to DC faults and its protection becomes ever more important with the fast growth in the number of installations. Finally, the dynamics of the studied power system including the HVDC link is thoroughly investigated through various simulation scenarios. © 2023 IEEE.

Multi-objective optimization techniques are practical techniques for controller tuning purposes. A wide variety of papers use such an approach or propose new algorithms to approximate the Pareto front. Nevertheless, despite the expressive volume of works dealing with it, there is no standard benchmark testbed that could be used as a baseline comparison among different techniques. This work addresses such a gap, with a first step proposing a linear-SISO testbed with guidelines and rules and providing a basic example for a PI controller. Such a benchmark is expected to promote further research on the topic.

Accelerating the(NH_4)_(2)SO_(3) oxidation gives rise to the reclaiming of byproduct, while there are secondary environmental risks from reduction of the coexisted selenium species by sulfite. In this study, a bi-functional Co-SBA-15-SH, were synthesized through Co impregnation and sulfhydryl(-SH) decoration, which can simultaneously uptake Se and accelerate sulfite oxidation efficiently. Meanwhile, the adsorption kinetics and migration mechanism of Se species were revealed through characterization and density functional calculations, with maximum adsorption capacity of 223 mg/g. The inhibition of Se~0 re-emission and poisonous effect of Se on sulfite oxidation was also investigated. Using the findings of this study, the ammonia desulfurization can be improved by enabling purification of the byproduct and lowering the toxicity of effluent by removing toxic pollutants.

Load shedding is currently implemented in two ways. In the first, manual load shedding is performed, where transmission system operators, using estimates, inform distribution utilities of predicted stressful conditions and request dispatch of reserves and then emergency load shedding. In the second manner, automatic load shedding is triggered by protection relays as part of under-voltage and under-frequency load shedding schemes. Pre-defined values of load to be shed and the corresponding number of stages are implemented as relay settings. Under-frequency protection relays use only local measurements for decision making. Decision making is done in milliseconds plus breaker time. However, in the new smart grid paradigm, where system dynamics are much faster due to increasing renewable resources penetration, in some operating conditions, traditional under-frequency load shedding schemes can generate sub-optimal solutions during events leading to islanding of the transmission grid. Although phasor measurement units provide a source of information which can be useful for this problem, centralized solutions for automatic load shedding require total processing times which are not acceptable for real-life implementation. In this work, a bi-level linear programming model is presented. The model is implemented in a distributed architecture leveraging phasor measurement unit data. The upper-level model estimates the current system state. Results of this model are embedded in a lower-level model which leverages predictive estimates of load shedding alternatives to determine the location and load value to be shed. The proposed solution is easy-to-implement and demonstrates high potential for real-world applications.

Due to the technological advances of micro-electro-mechanical sensor and wireless sensor network, gait analysis has been widely adopted as an significant indicator of mobility impairment for stroke survivors. This paper aims to propose an wearable computing based gait impairment evaluation method with distribute inertial sensor unit (IMU) mounted on human lower limbs. Temporal-spacial gait metrics were evaluated on more than twenty post stroke patients and ten healthy control subjects in the 10-meters-walk-test. Experimental results shown that significant differences exist between stroke patients and healthy subject in terms of various gait metrics. The extracted gait metrics are consistent with clinical observations, and the position estimation accuracy has been validated by optical device. The proposed method has the potential to serve as an objective and cost-efficient tool for rehabilitation-assisting therapy for post stroke survivors in clinical practice. © 2019, ICST Institute for Computer Sciences, Social Informatics and Telecommunications Engineering.
