the DC/AC interaction and the presence of the high nonlinearity in the HVDC links, these problems needs to examine the behavior of the system in steady-state and transient conditions in order to define the great role of protection functions and control parameters. Furthermore, control and protection systems are a vital part of an HVDC system to guarantee the safety, reliability, and stability of its operation. This research aim is to provide the solutions for control and protection problems that can occur in HVDC link. In this paper, we study how we mitigate this serious malfunction of commutation failure process in the operation of HVDC converters. Indeed some protection functions like the commutation failure prevention. Furthermore, HVDC transmission systems are vulnerable to DC faults and its protection becomes ever more important with the fast growth in the number of installations. Finally, the dynamics of the studied power system including the HVDC link is thoroughly investigated through various simulation scenarios.

Speciation analysis of arsenic in coal and its combustion by-products in coal-fired power plants

The speciations of Arsenic (As) in coal will inevitably convert during the combustion process. The As speciations in coal and its by-products are closely related to human health and environmental safety which is urgent to be identified. However, there is a lack of pretreatment procedure and analysis method on the As species in coal-related products in power plants. In this study, the As species in coal, fly ash (FA), and gypsum were successfully determined by high performance liquid chromatography coupled with hydride generation atomic fluorescence spectrometry (HPLC-HG-AFS). The instrument parameters, extract reagents, and pretreatment methods (i.e. ultrasound and microwave-assisted) were optimized. The whole separation time of inorganic As was shorten to 7 min after optimization, with the detection limit of 1.8 and 4.6 ng/g for As(III) and As(V), respectively. The efficient As extract reagent was the mixture of 1.0 mol/L H 3 PO 4 and 0.1 mol/L ascorbic acid solution. Microwave-assisted (2000 W, 80°C, 40 min) and ultrasound-assisted (40 kHz, 20°C, 40 min) schemes were the optimal extraction methods for coal/FA and gypsum samples, respectively. Under the proposed microwave and ultrasound extraction procedure, the recovery of As(III) and As(V) could reach to 95.8%/104.5% and 90.6%/89.7%, respectively. The dominant occurrence of As species in coal was As(V) with a small percentage of As(III), while As(V) was the only occurrence form observed in FA and gypsum. It is indicated that revealing the transformation of As(III) to As(V) is the key for gaseous As capture. The As species distribution investigation provides a scientific insight to the controlling of As emission from power plant.

Selection of a Minimal Suboptimal Set of EFMs for Dynamic Metabolic Modelling

Mathematical modelling supports the understanding of basic biological mechanisms and is the basis for bioprocess simulation, prediction, control and optimization. Dynamic macroscopic models can be derived from the concept of elementary flux modes (EFMs), which provide a comprehensive representation of all possible pathways through a metabolic network. As the number of EFMs drastically increases with the size of the metabolic network, a procedure to reduce the number of EFMs and select the most informative ones is required. For this purpose, this study proposes a methodology to select a minimal suboptimal set of elementary flux modes allowing the development of reduced macroscopic models. The algorithm is divided into two steps. First, the concept behind the cosine-similarity algorithm is extended for a large number of EFMs to cut the initial set by removing all the collinear modes. Next, the algorithm is used to extract only the most informative modes from the reduced set by means of a series of optimization problems. The algorithm performance is illustrated with datasets from hybridoma cultures in batch and perfusion modes, and two metabolic networks with different levels of description.

In this paper, the quantized control problem is discussed for a class of highly nonlinear stochastic systems with multiple delays under the DoS attacks. The coefficients are allowed to be highly nonlinear, and the control input is subject to the quantization effects and the DoS attacks. The aim is to deal with the stabilization problem for unstable highly nonlinear stochastic systems with multiple delays. The $p-\text{th}$ moment exponential stability and almost surely exponential stability are discussed in light of the Lyapunov theory. Finally, an illustrative example is given to verify the validity of the theoretical results.

This paper studies the algorithm design of variance-constrained $H_{\infty}$ state estimation problem for delayed memristive neural networks with adaptive event-triggered mechanism. The denial-of-service attacks are modeled by a series of random variables obeying the Bernoulli distribution with known probability. In addition, the adaptive event-triggered mechanism is introduced into the sensor-to-estimator to avoid unnecessary resource consumption. Our purpose is to construct a finite-horizon state estimation algorithm, and sufficient condition is obtained for the estimation error system satisfying the $H_{\infty}$ performance requirement and the error variance boundedness. Finally, a numerical example is used to illustrate the feasibility of the presented $H_{\infty}$ state estimation algorithm.

Predicting the travel time in real time is challenging due to dynamic changes of the traffic. With the help of GPS, wireless mobile communication, and big data technologies, several link travel time distribution capturing algorithms have emerged to generate the prediction of the route travel time distribution in short term. In this paper, we propose a data fusion model which can combine the historical and real time distribution to predict the link level travel time distribution. In the model, the route is represented with Markov chain, where the Markov state is identified by the travel time of probe vehicles. Experimental results prove that the proposed method has high accuracy in predicting route travel time distribution, and it is robust in spite of the fluctuation of real-time data.

We study the formation control problem for a group of mobile agents in a plane, in which each agent is modeled as a kinematic point and can only use the local measurements in its local frame. The agents are required to maintain a geometric pattern while keeping a desired distance to a static/moving target. The prescribed formation is a general one which can be any geometric pattern, and the neighboring relationship of the N-agent system only has the requirement of containing a directed spanning tree. To solve the formation control problem, a distributed controller is proposed based on the idea of decoupled design. One merit of the controller is that it only uses each agent's local measurements in its local frame, so that a practical issue that the lack of a global coordinate frame or a common reference direction for real multi-robot systems is successfully solved. Considering another practical issue of real robotic applications that sampled data is desirable instead of continuous-time signals, the sampled-data based controller is developed. Theoretical analysis of the convergence to the desired formation is provided for the multiagent system under both the continuous-time controller with a static/moving target and the sampled-data based one with a static target. Evidences shows that cell-to-cell infection occurs in HBV infection and is a more efficient way which may lead to more than half of viral infection. Hence, we formulate an HBV infection model with cell-to-cell infection, meanwhile, we incorporate the infection age of infected cells. For dynamic behaviors, we firstly establish the well-posedness of the model and asymptotic smoothness of the solution, and then show the global threshold dynamical behaviors, which is determined by the reproduction number, finally perform the numerical simulation not only to verify theoretical results but also explore the effects of cell-to-cell infection on the viral load and infection concentration. Our finding is that ignoring the cell-to-cell infection will underestimate the actually HBV infection status. For optimal control of treatment for HBV, we introduce two time-varying control measures and investigate the corresponding optimal control problem. We derive the characteristic express of optimal control and discuss the effects of control costs and control combination. The results show high control cost will not result in better control effectiveness, while integrated optimal control can reach the best control objectives compared with two single controls, moreover, age can greatly influences the HBV infection at the initial stage. © 2023, The Authors. In this paper, the distributed state estimation method with resilient attenuation feature is proposed for time-varying fractional-order complex networks under encoding-decoding mechanism. The encoding-decoding-induced dynamic errors for distinct nodes are characterized by the truncated Gaussian distributions. In order to compensate the effects induced by encoding-decoding scheme, the variances of encoding-decoding-induced dynamic errors are considered in process of designing the resilient distributed estimation algorithm. In particular, the upper bounds of updated estimation error covariances are derived firstly. Subsequently, the upper bounds are minimized by constructing the gain matrices at each sampling instant. Besides, a sufficient condition is provided to guarantee the boundedness of estimation error dynamics in the mean-square sense. Finally, the validity of distributed resilient state estimation scheme is demonstrated by a simulation example.
