Brief paper: controller dynamic linearisation-based model-free adaptive control framework for a class of non-linear system

Without the explicit process identification, the authors propose a model-free adaptive control framework for unknown plant by using the concept of equivalent dynamic linearisation controller. The controller has linear incremental structure and its local dynamics is equivalent to the ideal controller in theory. Hence, the problem of determining the structure of candidate controller is transformed to the problem of finding a sequence of local dynamic controllers to approximate the ideal controller. With the help of gradient information extracted from input and output (I/O) data of the plant, the optimal controller parameter sequence is generated by minimising a user-defined control criterion. This method gives a solution on how to determine the candidate controller structure. The controller design, parameter tuning and controller validation are based on I/O data of the plant. Hence, it could reduce the influence of internal disturbance or unmodelled dynamics. The effectiveness of the proposed method is illustrated by the simulation of a continuous polymerisation reaction process in a jacketed continuous stirred tank reactor system. Meanwhile, a simulation comparison is carried out to show the superiority of neural network data model in model-free adaptive control framework. © The Institution of Engineering and Technology 2015.

Microwave radiation has received extensive attention due to its significant thermal and nonthermal effects, and the development of MW-based denitrification in flue gas has become one of the most promising methods to avoid the defects of ammonia escape, high temperature and cost in traditional SCR. This review introduces the thermal and non-thermal effects of microwaves and divides MW-based denitrification methods into MW reduction and oxidation denitrification, systematically summarizes these denitrification methods, including MW discharge reduction, MW-induced catalytic reduction using active carbon, molecular sieves, metal oxides(transition metals, perovskites, etc.), MW-induced oxidation denitrification with and without additional oxidant, and discusses their removal pathway and mechanism. Finally, several research prospects and directions regarding the development of microwave-based denitrification methods are provided.

The booming development of rare earth industry and the extensive utilization of its products accompanied by urban development have led to the accelerated accumulation of rare earth elements(REEs)as emerging pollutants in atmospheric *** this study,the variation of REEs in PM_(2.5)with urban(a non-mining city)transformation was investigated through five consecutive years of sample *** compositional variability and provenance contribution of REEs in PM_(2.5)were characterized,and the REEs exposure risks of children and adults via inhalation,ingestion and dermal absorption were also *** results showed an increase in the total REEs concentration from 46.46±35.16 mg/kg(2017)to 81.22±38.98 mg/kg(2021)over the five-year period,with Ce and La making the largest *** actual increment of industrial and traffic emission source among the three pollution sources was 1.34 ng/m^(3).Coal combustion source displayed a downward *** was the main exposure pathway for REEs in PM_(2.5)for both children and *** contributed the most to the total intake of REEs in PM_(2.5)among the population,followed by La and *** exposure risks of REEs in PM_(2.5)in the region were relatively low,but the trend of change was of great *** was strongly recommended to strengthen the concern about traffic-related non-exhaust emissions of particulate matter.

In this paper, we address the design of decentralized controller for connectivity-preserving flocking without velocity measurement. An output vector based on neighbors' position information alone is constructed to replace the role of velocity, then some bounded attractive and repulsive forces are integrated together to design the controller. Under some initial conditions, we prove that the controller not only can synchronize all agents, but also can avoid collision as well as preserving connectivity among agents for all the time. Moreover, a leader-follower method is used to guide the group to a desired direction, where the neighboring relationship is totally determined by the distance. © 2011 Asian control Association.

Automatic EEG spike detection provide valuable information for diagnosis of epilepsy. In the past 30 years, a number of algorithms were proposed. However, the basic idea of most algorithms is to identify spike activities. We have developed an algorithm based on identify non-spike activities for off-line analysis. In this paper, we improved the algorithm for online application using real-time template. Template method is a typical spike detection method. It was not widely employed because of the difficulty of making template. Our results suggested that multichannel template is meaningful and effective for real-time detection. Spike activities can be detected with a delay of about 2 s. We also designed an simple user-friendly monitor interface for monitor and review spike events in real-time.

Localization technology is one of the most crucial issues for underwater vehicle applications that must accomplish any scheduled task in the challenging aquatic environment. Simultaneous Localization and Mapping (SLAM) with an Autonomous Underwater Vehicle (AUV) is currently a hot topic in the study. UAVs have only recently achieved greater recognition, and underwater platforms are still being studied. An approach has been established to ensure the success of an accurate localization mission by overcoming the problem of drifting from an AUV’s planned trajectory. A new adaptive technique based on two merged filters, Smooth Variable Structure Filter (SVSF) and Extended Kalman Filter (EKF), is presented to increase the accuracy of AUV localization. The accuracy, stability, and reduction in terms of Root Mean Square Error (RMSE) of the localization position of the AUV have been tested in natural conditions using the results of several experiments. These experimental data are used in the SLAM algorithm, which shows the best result and performance using the proposed approach compared to other algorithms. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2024.

A novel 3-layer mixed cultural evolutionary optimization framework for optimal operation of syngas production in a Texaco coal-water slurry gasifier

Optimizing operational parameters for syngas production of Texaco coal-water slurry gasifier studied in this paper is a complicated nonlinear constrained problem concerning 3 BP(Error Back Propagation) neural networks. To solve this model, a new 3-layer cultural evolving algorithm framework which has a population space, a medium space and a belief space is firstly conceived. Standard differential evolution algorithm(DE), genetic algorithm(GA), and particle swarm optimization algorithm(PSO) are embedded in this framework to build 3-layer mixed cultural DE/GA/PSO(3LM-CDE, 3LM-CGA, and 3LM-CPSO) algorithms. The accuracy and efficiency of the proposed hybrid algorithms are firstly tested in 20 benchmark nonlinear constrained functions. Then, the operational optimization model for syngas production in a Texaco coal-water slurry gasifier of a real-world chemical plant is solved effectively. The simulation results are encouraging that the 3-layer cultural algorithm evolving framework suggests ways in which the performance of DE, GA, PSO and other population-based evolutionary algorithms(EAs) can be improved,and the optimal operational parameters based on 3LM-CDE algorithm of the syngas production in the Texaco coalwater slurry gasifier shows outstanding computing results than actual industry use and other algorithms.

Tertiary amine-based biphasic solvents exhibit desorption properties, which is beneficial for reducing energy consumption. A DEEA/AMP/2-Me/H 2 O biphasic solvent was proposed. DEEA, a tertiary amine, was used as the main absorbent, 2-Me served as a phase splitter, and AMP functioned as an activator. The introduction of AMP (4 %) raised the CO 2 loading from 3.83 to 4.10 mol/L, constituting 95.7 % of captured CO 2 . Moreover, the absorbent demonstrated robust cyclic stability and exceptional desorption ability at low temperatures, attributable to its deprotonation regeneration mechanism. Notably, it achieved a remarkably high desorption capacity of 3.61 mol/L at 363.15 K, accompanied by a desorption efficiency of up to 88.0 %. These values surpassed those of 30 wt% MEA, which exhibited a desorption capacity of 1.73 mol/L and an efficiency of 58.8 % at 393.15 K, by 209 % and 150 %. Given that 363.15 K was beneath the boiling point of H 2 O, the Q latent was exceptionally minimal (0.034 GJ/t CO 2 ), leading to a remarkably decreased regeneration heat (1.51 GJ/t CO 2 ). A combination of NMR analysis, DFT and MD simulations was utilized to elucidate the phase separation mechanism. The primary factor contributing to phase separation was identified as the formation of a robust hydrogen bonding network among the absorption products.

We present a survey on generic singularities of geodesic flows in smooth signature changing metrics (often called pseudo-Riemannian) in dimension 2. Generically, a pseudo-Riemannian metric on a 2-manifold S changes its signature (degenerates) along a curve S0, which locally separates S into a Riemannian (R) and a Lorentzian (L) domain. The geodesic flow does not have singularities over R and L, and for any point q∈ R∪ L and every tangential direction p∈ there exists a unique geodesic passing through the point q with the direction p. On the contrary, geodesics cannot pass through a point q∈ S0 in arbitrary tangential directions, but only in some admissible directions;the number of admissible directions is 1 or 2 or 3. We study this phenomenon and the local properties of geodesics near q∈ S0. © Springer International Publishing AG, part of Springer Nature 2018.

control synthesis for robust tracking is considered for a class of pulse-width modulated systems that appear, for example, in power electronics applications. The control objective is to regulate a high frequency ripple signal to robustly track a constant reference signal in an average sense. To achieve this goal, a new H∞ control problem with integral action and average sampling is proposed. The solution of this problem involves a hybrid lifting framework which requires a careful elaboration in order to develop an algorithm that allows one to solve the design problem by the standard state space formulas for H∞ control. The design procedure is verified on a synchronous buck converter. © 2009 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.
