The efficient use of resources is critical in healthcare. Despite significant expenditure increases, hospital productivity has stayed the same proportionally in Chile, suggesting potential issues in resource management. Technical efficiency (TE) allows the comparison of hospitals with similar profiles of patients or case-mix, which is critical for understanding how resources are utilised to generate healthcare outputs. Internationally, the Diagnosis Related Groups (DRG) system has been widely used as a standard to normalise and perform fair comparisons of healthcare production. However, in Chile, its implementation could be improved. The present study evaluates the TE of high-complexity public hospitals in Chile using computational methods, including Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) and the Malmquist productivity index (MPI). We compare the impact of the DRG system in TE estimation with other categorisations used in the related literature, such as the Chilean Ministry of Health and geographical categorisation. Results reveal significant differences between the TE estimated (5% to 50%), discrepancies in rankings, and resource utilisation. These findings suggest that the full use of the DRG system in TE must be included since it enhances resource allocation and management in public hospitals.

ERP stands for enterprise resource planning. It is an information system that is all rolled into one, is very flexible and adaptable, and optimizes business operations while also centralizing all of the company's data. This study aims to empirically investigate the elements that affect users' intention and usage of enterprise resource planning (ERP). This research incorporates self-efficacy into the unified theory of acceptance and use of technology (UTAUT2). A quantitative technique was taken, and as a result, 143 replies that might be used were effectively collected. After that, the information was put through a structural equation modelling partial least square (SEM-PLS) analysis. According to the findings of this research, self-efficacy appears to have a significant influence on all endogenous variables (EE, BI, and UB), as indicated by t-values of 3.951, 7.573, and 5.492, respectively. In addition, the analysis also indicated that PE (4.317), EE (2.397), and HM (3.084) are likewise statistically and substantively significant to BI. The result shows that the R2 for BI and UB indicate a moderate impact of 0.603 and 0.521, respectively. It is suggested that the model has valuable applications in academic and real-world contexts.

Cell-free massive MIMO systems are currently being considered as potential enablers of future (6G) technologies for wireless communications. By combining distributed processing and massive MIMO, they are expected to deliver improved user coverage and efficiency. A possible source of performance degradation in such systems is pilot contamination, which contributes to causing interference during uplink training and affects channel estimation negatively. Contamination occurs when the same pilot sequence is assigned to more than one user. This is in general inevitable, as the number of mutually orthogonal pilot sequences corresponds to only a fraction of the coherence interval. We introduce a new algorithm for pilot assignment and analyze its performance both from a theoretical perspective and in computational experiments. We show that it has an approximation ratio close to 1 for a plausibly large number of orthogonal pilot sequences, as well as low computational complexity under massive parallelism. We also show that, on average, it outperforms other methods in terms of per-user SINR and throughput on the uplink. Copyright © 2023, The Authors. All rights reserved.

In this article, the various poultry farm parameters such as antitheft, fire protection, temperature, humidity, oxygen, carbon-di-oxide, ammonia gases, and light of the poultry have been monitored by the Prominent Rule Control (PRC) algorithm in Internet-of-Things devices. Food and water supply, fire and theft safety, air purity, and air conditioning in the poultry farm have all been conducted using sensor signals. In this system, power consumption, labour costs, time, and effective utilization of power and resources have been monitored to enhance the poultry production rate. The PRC algorithm has been working to simplify the process and save time for overall poultry monitoring and activating systems with low cost. It is also employed to condition the sensors' data, convert it, compare it with threshold values, write the Arduino program, and securely store it in the cloud system for the poultry system. This research is also focused on improving the poultry monitoring system and minimizing the fixed and operating costs of the IoT system. The microcontroller, GSM module/WIFI, temperature and humidity sensors, proximity sensors, fire sensors, different gas sensors, RFID, and light sensors have been working to monitor the poultry form. The egg collectors, fogger systems to decrease the temperature, water and food supply systems have been established and integrated with microcontrollers to perform the automation in the poultry farm.

ENHANCING SPEAKING STYLES IN CONVERSATIONAL TEXT-TO-SPEECH SYNTHESIS WITH GRAPH-BASED MULTI-MODAL CONTEXT MODELING

Comparing with traditional text-to-speech (TTS) systems, conversational TTS systems are required to synthesize speeches with proper speaking style confirming to the conversational context. However, state-of-the-art context modeling methods in conversational TTS only model the textual information in context with a recurrent neural network (RNN). Such methods have limited ability in modeling the inter-speaker influence in conversations, and also neglect the speaking styles and the intra-speaker inertia inside each speaker. Inspired by DialogueGCN and its superiority in modeling such conversational influences than RNN based approaches, we propose a graph-based multi-modal context modeling method and adopt it to conversational TTS to enhance the speaking styles of synthesized speeches. Both the textual and speaking style information in the context are extracted and processed by DialogueGCN to model the inter- and intra-speaker influence in conversations. The outputs of DialogueGCN are then summarized by attention mechanism, and converted to the enhanced speaking style for current utterance. An English conversation corpus is collected and annotated for our research and released to public. Experiment results on this corpus demonstrate the effectiveness of our proposed approach, which outperforms the state-of-the-art context modeling method in conversational TTS in both MOS and ABX preference rate. © 2021, CC BY.

Currently, ultra-high energy cosmic rays (UHECRs) are being measured by the Telescope Array (TA) and Pierre Auger (Auger) experiments. There are differences in the energy spectra measured by TA and Auger. One reason for this difference is systematic uncertainty in the energy determination. The fluorescence yield model, which consists of fluorescence emission efficiencies and spectra, is one of the most significant components of this systematic uncertainty. Fluorescence emission efficiencies and spectra have been measured by various experiments, and different measurements are currently used to determine the energy of the TA and Auger experiments. In this study, we estimate the influence of the fluorescence yield model on the systematic uncertainty in the energy determination of the TA fluorescence detector. © Copyright owned by the author(s) under the terms of the Creative Commons.

Dynamic programming is a fundamental algorithm that can be found in our daily lives easily. One of the dynamic programming algorithm implementations consists of solving the 0/1 knapsack problem. A 0/1 knapsack problem can be seen from industrial production cost. It is prevalent that a production cost has to be as efficient as possible, but the expectation is to get the proceeds of the products higher. Thus, the dynamic programming algorithm can be implemented to solve the diverse knapsack problem, one of which is the 0/1 knapsack problem, which would be the main focus of this paper. The implementation was implemented using C language. This paper was created as an early implementation algorithm using a Dynamic program algorithm applied to an Automatic Identification System (AIS) dataset.

Exotic forms of wave control have been emerging by engineering matter in space and time. In this framework, temporal photonic interfaces, i.e., abrupt changes in the electromagnetic properties of a material, have been shown to induce temporal scattering phenomena dual to spatial reflection and refraction, at the basis of photonic time crystals and space-time metamaterials. Despite decades-old theoretical studies on these topics, and recent experimental demonstrations, the careful modeling of these phenomena has been lagging behind. Here, we develop from first principles a rigorous model of the electrodynamics of temporal photonic interfaces, highlighting the crucial role of the mechanisms driving time variations. We demonstrate that the boundary conditions and conservation laws associated with temporal scattering may substantially deviate from those commonly employed in the literature, based on their microscopic implementation. Our results open new vistas for both fundamental investigations over light-matter interactions in time-varying structures and for the prospect of their future implementations and applications in optics and photonics. © 2024, CC BY.

Interactions between groundwater and surface water sustain groundwater-dependent ecosystems, provide baseflow to rivers, and regulate river temperature and biogeochemical cycles, amongst many other processes. These interactions occur in freshwater environments including rivers, springs, lakes, and wetlands, and in coastal environments via tidal pumping, submarine groundwater discharge, and seawater intrusion. Here, we use a data-driven approach to explore groundwater-surface water interactions research using 20,275 journal papers published between 1970 and 2023. Analyses show that research into groundwater-surface water interactions is highly multi-disciplinary, with growing contributions from the social and biological sciences. As in the case with many research areas, the number of groundwater-surface water interactions papers is rapidly increasing with over 1200 papers published per year since 2020. Drawing on our data-driven approach and expert knowledge, we synthesise current research trends and identify critical future research directions. Despite the thousands of papers on groundwater-surface water interactions, there are still important processes that are difficult to quantify or predict at meaningful spatial scales to inform management. We see benefits in future groundwater-surface water interactions research focusing on: (1) embracing new technologies including the use of internet-of-things-based sensors and further use of uncrewed vehicles in data capture and remote sensing approaches to inform groundwater-surface water interactions at large scales, (2) capitalising on the increased computational power, availability of physically based models, and machine learning to inform hydrological and biogeochemical processes, and (3) continuing the movement towards multi-disciplinary investigations to better inform the quantification of groundwater-surface water interactions that will enable better management outcomes. © 2024, The Authors. Understanding the real world through point cloud video is a crucial aspect of robotics and autonomous driving systems. However, prevailing methods for 4D point cloud recognition have limitations due to sensor resolution, which leads to a lack of detailed information. Recent advances have shown that Vision-Language Models (VLM) pre-trained on web-scale text-image datasets can learn fine-grained visual concepts that can be transferred to various downstream tasks. However, effectively integrating VLM into the domain of 4D point clouds remains an unresolved problem. In this work, we propose the Vision-Language Models Goes 4D (VG4D) framework to transfer VLM knowledge from visual-text pretrained models to a 4D point cloud network. Our approach involves aligning the 4D encoder’s representation with a VLM learning a shared visual and text space from training on large-scale image-text pairs. By transferring the knowledge of the VLM to the 4D encoder and combining the VLM, our VG4D achieves improved recognition performance. To enhance the 4D encoder, we modernize the classic dynamic point cloud backbone and propose an improved version of PSTNet, im-PSTNet, which can efficiently model point cloud videos. Experiments demonstrate that our method achieves state-of-the-art performance for action recognition on both NTU RGB+D 60 dataset and NTU RGB+D 120 dataset.
