The purpose of this paper is to investigate the factors affecting the passenger traffic volume on the high-capacity MRT, to analyze the traffic volume trends, and to make traffic volume predictions more accurately. This paper uses the LSTM (Long Short-term Memory) model and regression analysis for Taipei MRT passenger traffic volume prediction. The training data, including dates, temperatures and number of passengers, were collected, and a regression analysis was performed to find trends in the data.

Machine learning approaches have recently been leveraged as a substitute or an aid for physical/mathematical modeling approaches to dynamical systems. To develop an efficient machine learning method dedicated to modeling and prediction of multiscale dynamics, we propose a reservoir computing (RC) model with diverse timescales by using a recurrent network of heterogeneous leaky integrator (LI) neurons. We evaluate computational performance of the proposed model in two time series prediction tasks related to four chaotic fast-slow dynamical systems. In a one-step-ahead prediction task where input data are provided only from the fast subsystem, we show that the proposed model yields better performance than the standard RC model with identical LI neurons. Our analysis reveals that the timescale required for producing each component of target multiscale dynamics is appropriately and flexibly selected from the reservoir dynamics by model training. In a long-term prediction task, we demonstrate that a closed-loop version of the proposed model can achieve longer-term predictions compared to the counterpart with identical LI neurons depending on the hyperparameter setting.

The green transition has brought about a worldwide-shift to the use of renewables as alternative energy sources. Because of this, high voltage DC has been a field of interest in power electronics due to its capability in efficiently transmitting power to reach remote areas. Typical DC-DC electronic power converter design has the capability of boosting voltage level to a certain extent but not enough for high-voltage applications. Using the DMAIC Approach of the Six Sigma, quality improvements in the design was proposed to stabilize operating frequency, bring up the output voltage from 100 VDC to 4,000 VDC and provide at least 10% margin of error in the apparent power measured at the output side to offset inherent losses in the electrical design. These proposed quality improvements were sustained by designing a control circuit that would ensure the attainment of the parameters set in the Define Phase of the DMAIC Approach. The result of the study is a practical 12 VDC to 4,000 VDC boost converter design that has incorporated all the proposed quality improvements.
