Pseudomonas (P.) aeruginosa is a typical Gram-negative bacterium to cause burn wound infection, which is hard to control since P. aeruginosa efficiently forms biofilms and easily acquires drug resistance, resulting in septicemia. Antimicrobial photodynamic therapy (aPDT) is a new approach for controlling such burn wound infection, and we showed a certain effectiveness of methylene blue (MB)-mediated aPDT with LED array illumination for a rat model with an extended, full-thickness burn infected with P. aeruginosa. However, rapid bacterial regrowth was observed even after consecutive daily aPDT, indicating efficient bacterial invasion into the tissue. Thus, it is crucial to evaluate the aPDT efficacy in a depth-resolved manner. In this study, we analyzed depth distributions of bacteria for the rat treated with saline (control), rat treated with a photosensitizer mixture alone (PS alone) and rat treated with a PS mixture plus light (aPDT) based on Gram-stained tissue sections for the same rat model as that described above. For the control rat, large number of bacteria were observed on the tissue surface and in the wide depth range of the skin. For the PS alone rat, many bacteria were observed on the tissue surface and in the epidermal region, but the number of bacteria was limited in the deeper region of the skin, indicating a PS mixture dark toxicity. The aPDT showed drastic decreases in the number of bacteria both on the tissue surface and in the subsurface region;however, there were still certain numbers of bacteria in the deeper region of the skin. © 2021 SPIE.

The effective management and early diagnosis of cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) are crucial to bring down the mortality associated these diseases. Because detecting CVDs can be a difficult task, especially when no symptoms are present, developing systems that can detect CVDs or heart abnormalities automatically has attracted significant research attention in recent times. For this purpose, several convolutional neural networks (CNNs) learned using heart sound signals (i.e., the phonocardiogram or PCG) have been proposed. Generally, CNNs require a high volume of annotated training data to achieve high performance. However, annotated PCG (i.e., PCGs labelled as abnormal or normal) dataset is not sufficient for training CNNs. To address this issue, the classification performance of CNNs need to be improved, so that they can be trained even on an insufficient PCG database. In this study, we consider two data augmentation (DA) methods: window slicing with spectrogram, which slices a single PCG to generate multiple signals and transforms the signals into spectrogram data;the other is a synthetic spectrogram based generative adversarial network, which generates synthetic data. To demonstrate the validity of the two DA methods, we performed experiments concerning heart sound detection and discussed the results of the experiments in terms of accuracy, sensitivity, and specificity. © 2022, IAENG International Journal of Computer Science. As a new dimension in global manufacturing and services, Customer Solution Centers (CSCs) have emerged as unique environments that provide products and services to customers. In CSCs, customers can be both the supplier and the customer at the same time. CSCs provide solutions and support in hardware, software, or service for a single or a group of products. Solutions of the same customer are often included under one contract. Due to the unique structure and operation of CSCs, traditional production planning and inventory control approaches do not work effectively in such environment. This creates the need to develop new techniques to enhance the inventory and production control in this unique environment. This research proposes a framework for production and inventory management in CSCs. The proposed framework provides a predictive model that uses both qualitative and quantitative data for predicting order arrivals. A resource-skills matrix is then developed to identify the required resources for each order. The proposed framework is implemented in a server remanufacturing environment. Applying social cognitive theory to examine farmer migration in response to groundwater salinity: The case of Qaenat, Iran

Adverse climatic conditions and excessive groundwater extraction have jeopardized agriculture and water resources, caused the salinization of agricultural wells and prompted widespread rural-to-urban migration. To develop effective decentralization policies, it is crucial to analyze farmers' migration behavior in response to increasing water salinity. This study applies the Extended Social Cognitive Theory (ESCT) to explore these dynamics. This study employs a descriptive-survey research method, with the statistical population comprising farmers in Qaenat County, South Khorasan Province. A proportional random sample of 300 farmers was selected and surveyed using a researcher-developed questionnaire. The validity of the questionnaire was confirmed through expert opinions, while its reliability was assessed using Cronbach's alpha coefficient, ranging from 0.6 to 0.95. The Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) analysis revealed that the perception of others' behavior (POB), attitudes, and perceived barriers significantly predict the willingness to adapt to water salinity through both technical and non-technical methods. Furthermore, the findings revealed that the ESCT accounted for 48.4 % of the variance in farmers' migration intentions and 29.5 % of the variance in their actual migration behavior. Among the examined factors, perceived behavior of others, attitudes, and social capital emerged as key determinants of migration behavior, while moral norms exerted the strongest influence on migration intentions. These results underscore the critical role of socio-cognitive variables in shaping adaptive responses to the challenges posed by water salinity. Future research could apply various behavioral models to investigate both technical and non-technical adaptation strategies, offering a more comprehensive understanding of how individuals respond to environmental challenges across different contexts.

The Impact of Opioid Prescribing Limits on Drug Usage in South Carolina: A Novel Geospatial and Time Series Data Analysis

Background. To curb the opioid epidemic, legislation regulating the amount of opioid prescriptions covered by Medicaid (Title XIX of the Social Security Act Medical Assistance program) came into effect in May 2018 in South Carolina. Methods. We employ a classification system based on distance and disparity between dispensers, prescribers, and patients and conduct an ARIMA analysis on each class and without any class to examine the effect of the legislation on opioid prescriptions, considering secular trends and autocorrelation. The study also compares trends in benzodiazepine prescriptions as a control. Results. The proposed classification system clusters each transaction into 16 groups based on the location of the stakeholders. These categories were found to have different prescription volume levels, with the highest group averaging 96.50 in daily MME (95% CI [63.43, 99.57]) and the lowest 37.78 (95% CI [37.38,38.18]). The ARIMA models show a decrease in overall prescription volume from 53.68 (95% CI [53.33,54.02]) to 51.09 (95% CI [50.74,51.44]) and varying impact across the different classes. Conclusion. Policy was effective in reducing opioid prescription volume overall. However, the volume of prescriptions filled where the prescribing doctor is located more than 1000 miles away from the patient went up, hinting at the possibility of doctor shopping. In order to develop a new mechanical material by using liposomes and gels, we are attempting to encapsulate gels into liposomes using the Droplet-Shooting method. We have adopted "gelatin" and "shape-memory gel" as the inner materials of liposomes to make liposome reinforce because liposome is too soft to use as a mechanical material. Both types of gels make it difficult to form the liposome. Therefore, we investigated the effect of the gel on the formation of the liposome. We also developed a 3D printer for the Liposome-Gel composite systems as a first step to use liposomes, which have been used as Drug Delivery System (DDS) and cell models, as a mechanical material. We believe that this will enable us to discover the potential of artificial living tissues as mechanical materials. © The Electrochemical Society.

In 2023, we proposed a hypothetical knowledge management framework that incorporates science fiction prototyping (SFP) into the traditional roadmapping (RM) method to make RM more innovative and create a future beyond what we can currently imagine. Our main objective is to create a new organizational knowledge co-creation method for generating innovative ideas by incorporating humanistic factors utilizing SFP into RM. In the current article, we present the exploratory study we conducted to examine the hypothetical framework. Experimental workshops were held in November 2023 to compare the integrated method, in which SFP is applied to RM, with the original RM method. We followed a crossover design in the workshops and analyzed the results qualitatively and quantitatively following the perspectives proposed in the hypothetical framework. The qualitative analysis revealed successful integration regarding diverse and broader perspectives. The quantitative analysis utilizing Wilcoxon signed rank tests showed that the scores of the integrated method were significantly higher than those of RM for variables evaluating the effectiveness of the integration, while not for variables related to participants' feelings and satisfaction with the workshops, and sustainability. These findings indicate that the integration was successful in terms of its effectiveness as a method, while participants' subjective feelings toward the workshops were not different in both methods. As for sustainability, which requires a long-term perspective, no apparent differences were observed in these short-term workshops.

Gamma-ray observation in the sub-PeV range helps us search for Galactic PeV cosmic-ray accelerators, PeVatrons. Measurement of the energy spectrum of gamma rays from astrophysical sources is especially crucial to discuss their hadronic or leptonic origin. In this study, gamma rays from the sky region of HESS J1843−033 are observed by the Tibet air shower array equipped with the underground muon detector array. A new gamma-ray source TASG J1844−038 is detected above 25 TeV with a 6.2 σ level in the region of interest, the position of which is consistent with HESS J1843−033, eHWC J1842−035, and LHAASO J1843−0338. The gamma-ray energy spectrum of TASG J1844−038 is successfully measured in 25−130 TeV for the first time;it smoothly connects to that of HESS J1843−033 and gives consistent flux levels with those of eHWC J1842−035 and LHAASO J1843−0338 at 56 and 100 TeV, respectively. The analysis of the combined gamma-ray spectra between the H.E.S.S., LHAASO, and TASG sources indicates the cutoff at about 50 TeV. The distribution of the molecular clouds around TASG J1844−038 is investigated by analyzing public CO line-emission data;our study finds the clouds in the velocity range of 75−95 km s−1 lying flat over the region with a 50 K km s−1 level. The association of the observed gamma rays with a nearby supernova remnant SNR G28.6−0.1 is discussed, and it is proposed that cosmic rays accelerated by SNR G28.6−0.1 up to about 500 TeV generate the observed gamma rays from the collisions with the ambient gas found in the analysis. © Copyright owned by the author(s) under the terms of the Creative Commons.

There has been a steady expansion in the number of social websites, electronic media outlets, and blogging services, all of which contribute a large number of user messages such as comments, reviews, and opinions from customers. The quantity of these signals, which are used to evaluate the quality of a wide variety of goods and services, is rather substantial. As a result, it is challenging to monitor and identify the feelings of customers. As a result, a method known as Sentiment Analysis (SA), also known as Opinion Mining (OM), was developed. This method gathers data from the internet by using Natural Language Processing (NLP) strategies and then analyses people's thoughts. It does this by extracting subjective information from the words, assessing opinions, and quantifying positive and negative evaluations. The end result is a conclusion about the specific entity, which may be an organisation, the public, or a product. The NLP first gathers the views, and then those opinions are sorted into positive, neutral, and negative categories. Both the marketing promotion and the customer's ability to choose the most appropriate product for their needs may be improved by doing an analysis. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the use of different machine learning and swarm intelligence optimization methods to perform sentiment analysis on data derived from movie reviews. This study helps many businesses increase their profits while simultaneously lowering the number of problems caused by a certain product. Within the scope of this investigation, three distinct models of sentiment analysis were investigated. An effective method for doing sentiment analysis known as a Hybrid Kernel based Support Vector Machine (HKSVM) has been presented. The preprocessing that is described here is meant to cut down on the data inconsistencies and get rid of the data that isn't needed.
