The alternating direction method of multipliers(ADMM)is widely used in solving structured convex optimization *** its success in practice,the convergence of the standard ADMM for minimizing the sum of N(N≥3)convex functions,whose variables are linked by linear constraints,has remained unclear for a very long ***,Chen et al.(Math program,doi:10.1007/s10107-014-0826-5,2014)provided a counter-example showing that the ADMM for N≥3 may fail to converge without further *** the ADMM for N≥3 has been very successful when applied to many problems arising from real practice,it is worth further investigating under what kind of sufficient conditions it can be guaranteed to *** this paper,we present such sufficient conditions that can guarantee the sublinear convergence rate for the ADMM for N≥***,we show that if one of the functions is convex(not necessarily strongly convex)and the other N-1 functions are strongly convex,and the penalty parameter lies in a certain region,the ADMM converges with rate O(1/t)in a certain ergodic sense and o(1/t)in a certain non-ergodic sense,where t denotes the number of *** a by-product,we also provide a simple proof for the O(1/t)convergence rate of two-blockADMMin terms of both objective error and constraint violation,without assuming any condition on the penalty parameter and strong convexity on the functions.

This study seeks to understand and estimate atmospheric longwave irradiance (R_ld) and surface net radiation (R_n) using parameterized models applied to semi-arid regions of northeastern Brazil. Studies on surface energy flows are of interest to areas such as environmental and agricultural sciences, and are of great importance in analyzing and managing water resources. Thus, this research could benefit the study region, which constantly experiences periods of water scarcity that affect agricultural activities and the lives of communities. An exploration of data gathered from micrometeorological stations spanning the period from 2014 to 2016 within various caatinga vegetation areas exhibiting distinct levels of preservation. This exploration involved comparative analyses between methods available in existing literature and those proposed by the authors. The biome under study is unique to Brazil and remains relatively underexplored in terms of comprehensive research and studies. In the R_ld analysis, parameterizations for days with clear and cloudy skies were considered, and the proposed models presented results that surpassed the results of most of the tested models in the literature. Among the models examined, the Crawford and Duchon (1999) model displayed remarkable efficiency in estimating R_ld within the study area. Furthermore, the models were fine-tuned to estimate the surface R_n for the respective areas of each micrometeorological station. These calibrations factored in both dry and rainy seasons for the R_n analyses. The calibration results were satisfactory, with r² values for the proposed models greater than 0.90 for R_ld for clear sky conditions and 0.94 for all conditions, and a high agreement was shown with values greater than 0.96 according to the criteria of Willmott et al. Background: Human-designed oligotrophic environments, such as cleanrooms, harbor unique microbial communities shaped by selective pressures like temperature, humidity, nutrient availability, cleaning reagents, and radiation. Maintaining the biological cleanliness of NASA’s mission-associated cleanrooms, where spacecraft are assembled and tested, is critical for planetary protection. Even with stringent controls such as regulated airflow, temperature management, and rigorous cleaning, resilient microorganisms can persist in these environments, posing potential risks for space missions. Results: During the Phoenix spacecraft mission, genomes of 215 bacterial isolates were sequenced and based on overall genome-related indices, 53 strains belonging to 26 novel species were recognized. Metagenome mapping indicated less than 0.1% of the reads associated with novel species, suggesting their rarity. Genes responsible for biofilm formation, such as BolA (COG0271) and CvpA (COG1286), were predominantly found in proteobacterial members but were absent in other non-spore-forming and spore-forming species. YqgA (COG1811) was detected in most spore-forming members but was absent in Paenibacillus and non-spore-forming species. Cell fate regulators, COG1774 (YaaT), COG3679 (YlbF, YheA/YmcA), and COG4550 (YmcA, YheA/YmcA), controlling sporulation, competence, and biofilm development processes, were observed in all spore-formers but were missing in non-spore-forming species. COG analyses further revealed resistance-conferring proteins in all spore-formers (n = 13 species) and eight actinobacterial species, responsible for enhanced membrane transport and signaling under radiation (COG3253), transcription regulation under radiation stress (COG1108), and DNA repair and stress responses (COG2318). Rice is a critical global staple food;however, its production is a substantial contributor to greenhouse gas emissions. The burning of rice straw (RS), a byproduct of the harvest, further exacerbates global warming by emitting greenhouse gases and air pollutants, such as particulate matter, contributing to biodiversity loss and soil fertility degradation in agricultural areas. To explore the synergies of RS bioresources, this study systematically evaluates various RS management practices, including open burning, soil organic amendment, and bioenergy production, from the perspective of their lifecycle environmental and economic performance. This study considers all stages of rice production, including different irrigation systems such as conventional flooding and alternate wetting and drying (AWD). The findings indicate that replacing conventional flooding with AWD irrigation results in reduced lifecycle environmental impacts across all midpoint indicators. Specifically, AWD irrigation combined with RS used as soil amendments exhibits the lowest global warming potential, at −435.2 kg CO2eq per ton-RS. In terms of economic costs, the lifecycle costs across all scenarios range from approximately 91.7 to 186.9 USD per tonne of RS. Furthermore, sensitivity analyses are conducted on RS portion allocation and transportation distance. The study also identifies the synergies between soil organic amendment and bioenergy production, leveraging global carbon pricing and feed-in tariffs, as crucial factors for optimizing both the environmental and economic performance of RS management. This study offers valuable insights into the potential of integrated RS management practices for achieving environmental sustainability and economic viability over the rice production lifecycle. © 2025 Elsevier B.V.

This paper is emphases on the financial impact of RFID system on the healthcare. The main obstacle of RFID implementation is the high costs hence the area of application must be very selective. We decide on the Obstetrics and Gynecology department (OGD), where the patient has many visits during three different periods: Pregnancy, Delivery and after Childbirth. This research conducted over two years to collect real data for two different scenarios, traditional versus RFID systems. The reductions in waiting times for each period are valued into money. The RFID technology can significantly improve the processing times associated with medical record retrieval, dispensing medication, personnel management and billing. This analysis is planned for a period of 5 years with discount rate of 4%. Finally, the net present value concept is applied in order to compare the financial benefit of two systems and to obtain the payback period. © 2012 IEEE.

Multi-agent reinforcement learning has been paid much attention due to its wide applications in various engineering systems. In this paper, the control problems of large-scale multi-agent systems with multiple roles are formulated into a multiplayer Stackelberg game, which provides a new perspective on cooperative issues. Then a Stackelberg Q-learning algorithm is proposed and knowledge transfer is applied to improve the efficiency of the learning process. Finally the proposed algorithm is applied to cognitive radio networks. Simulation results indicate that the Stackelberg Q-learning algorithm can efficiently promote the utility of the agents in the system, and significantly reduce the interference caused by the jammer.

Urban greening is critical for sustainable urban development, climate change mitigation, and biodiversity conservation. However, the effectiveness of urban greening varies depending on the specific goals (e.g., enhancing biodiversity, reducing urban heat, or both) and their spatial implementation. To address the spatial variability in the effectiveness of greening, we propose a spatial decision support model based on the non-dominated sorting genetic algorithm-II (NSGA-II). This model aims to optimize urban greening locations to maximize biomass density, mitigate urban heat stress, and improve landscape connectivity. Applied to Suwon City, South Korea, the model's effectiveness was evaluated against a business-as-usual (BAU) scenario across four scenarios: connectivity-based, biomass density-based, heat stress-based, and an integrated-based scenario. The integrated approach, balancing trade-offs between ecological benefits and implementation costs, outperformed the BAU scenario by 8.84 %. Despite highlighting a weaker correlation with heat stress mitigation, this outcome indicates significant improvements in biomass density and landscape connectivity. Our findings underscore the necessity of an integrated planning approach to urban greening, as it can contribute toward attaining urban development goals. Additionally, by proposing an app-based model for policymakers, our outputs should enable the reconciliation of multiple environmental objectives in urban landscapes. © 2025 Elsevier Ltd

This paper describes the design of a unified framework for a multilingual text-to-speech （TTS） synthesis engine - Crystal. The unified framework defines the common TTS modules for different languages and/or dialects. The interfaces between consecutive modules conform to the speech synthesis markup language （SSML） specification for standardization, interoperability, multilinguality, and extensibility. Detailed module divisions and implementation technologies for the unified framework are introduced, together with possible extensions for the algorithm research and evaluation of the TTS synthesis. Implementation of a mixed-language TTS system for Chinese Putonghua, Chinese Cantonese, and English demonstrates the feasibility of the proposed unified framework.

Detection of anomalies in working posture during obstacle avoidance tasks using one-class support vector machine

This study was conducted to evaluate working posture during obstacle avoidance tasks using a one-class support vector machine (SVM), and to compare the efficacy of this method in relation to traditional ergonomic evaluation methods. Eleven right-handed male participants performed reaching tasks in which they were required to move their right arm toward a predefined target position while avoiding obstacles. Working position, obstacle height/width, and obstacle presence varied among the experimental conditions. Working posture and subjective difficulty were assessed for each condition. The one-class SVM was applied to the quaternion of each body segment, which was determined based on measurements of working posture. Rates of postural anomalies were calculated for each experimental condition. The rates of postural anomalies for the right upper limb and head/neck increased as the width of the obstacle increased. Similarly, the subjective difficulty of work increased as obstacle width increased. Observational methods are unable to identify postural anomalies with regard to the right shoulder abduction angle and right lateral bending angle of the neck. However, our findings indicate that the proposed one-class SVM can detect postural anomalies in the right upper limb and head/neck for different obstacle widths. © 2021 Japan Industrial management Association. Mixed-model assembly line is a type of a production line where a variety of product models with certain level of similarity in operational characteristics are assembled. Due to this variety, especially, work load variance cause several inconvenient phenomena such as low efficiency, line stops. To cope with these problems, hierarchical design procedure for line balancing and job sequencing is proposed which is structured in terms of amelioration procedure. On our Genetic Algorithm, a new encoding procedure entitled Priority-based Multi-Chromosome (PMC) is proposed, of which feature is a multi-functional chromosome and provides efficient representation of task assignment to workstations and job ordering. From lean production point of view, U-shape assembly line system has been recognized to offer several benefits over the traditional straight line system. To assure effectiveness of proposed procedure, both straight and U-shape assembly lines are examined under three major performance criteria, i.e. number of workstations (or line efficiency) as static criterion, variance of workload and distance between average and actual workload on the assembly line as dynamic criterion. The results of simulation experiments suggest that proposed procedure is effective management tool of mixed-model assembly line system.
