The artificial pancreas (AP), commonly known as a closed-loop insulin delivery control system, consists of three primary components: a glucose sensor for measuring blood glucose concentration (BGC), a control algorithm responsible for determining the rate of exogenous insulin delivery (IDR), and an insulin infusion pump. In this paper, a novel approach is introduced for designing a guaranteed cost observer-based linear parameter variable (GC-LPV) control system for blood glucose levels in Diabetic Patients. The Bergman Minimal Model (BMM), which is widely used for understanding the glucose-insulin regulatory system, is described as a Quasi-Linear Parameter Varying (QLPV) system. The main innovation of the paper lies in presenting a new method that optimizes performance without considering input in the cost function and the concurrent design of LPV observer and LPV controller. One notable aspect of the design conditions is the incorporation of input saturation considerations during the design process. This inclusion leads to performance improvement by addressing the constraint of insulin injection effectively. Another significant contribution of the paper is its unified approach to transforming the problem into a convex optimization problem, incorporating Linear Matrix Inequalities (LMIs). The proposed adaptive dynamic output structure provides flexibility in controller design while ensuring stability and performance, even in the presence of parametric uncertainty. Simulation results confirm that the GC-LPV controller yields improved performance compared to state-of-the-art methods. © 2013 IEEE.

The large-scale neural networks have brought incredible shocks to the world, changing people's lives and offering vast prospects. However, they also come with enormous demands for computational power and storage pressure, the core of its computational requirements lies in the matrix multiplication units dominated by multiplication operations. To address this issue, we propose an area-power-efficient multiplier-less processing element (PE) design. Prior to implementing the proposed PE, we apply a power-of-2 dictionary-based quantization to the model and effectiveness of this quantization method in preserving the accuracy of the original model is confirmed. In hardware design, we present a standard and one variant ‘bi-sign’ architecture of the PE. Our evaluation results demonstrate that the systolic array that implement our standard multiplier-less PE achieves approximately 38% lower power-delay-product and 13% smaller core area compared to a conventional multiplication-and-accumulation PE and the bi-sign PE design can even save 37% core area and 38% computation energy. Furthermore, the applied quantization reduces the model size and operand bit-width, leading to decreased on-chip memory usage and energy consumption for memory accesses. Additionally, the hardware schematic facilitates expansion to support other sparsity-aware, energy-efficient techniques.

In this study, we present findings from a granular gas experiment conducted under microgravity conditions on the International Space Station in February 2023. Granular gas, comprised of dilute systems of granular particles in microgravity, exhibit unique dynamic behaviors that diverge from those of molecular gases, primarily due to their inelastic collision properties. Although simulations have extensively explored this process, empirical studies are rare, attributed to the necessity of a sustained, high-quality microgravity environment. Nonetheless, experimental verification is crucial, given the significant role of granular physics in space science, such as in the formation of celestial bodies, aerospace engineering, and potential space mining operations. Our experimental setup consisted of approximately 4,000 copper spheres, each with a diameter of 1.5mm, contained within a plastic sphere with a diameter of 100mm. To initiate particle movement, the system was shaken for 10 seconds, followed by a 1-minute observation period to monitor the cooling process. This cooling phase was meticulously recorded from both front and side perspectives for subsequent analysis. The outcomes of our experiment reveal that the decay of the average velocity of the granular gas closely matched the velocity decay predicted by simulations based on HafFs law. Additionally, the velocity distribution of the granular gas exhibited a distribution different from the Maxwell-Boltzmann distribution. However, contrary to expectations, we did not observe clustering in the final state of cooling due to the influence of static electricity. During the outbreak of COVID-19, many enterprises massively created Virtual Private Networks (VPNs) for companies to cooperate;however, these accounts lacked efficient management after the epidemic, leading to data leakage or the suffering of malicious attacks. Consequently, several firms have started to build private blockchains for data preservation and verification. Private blockchains are usually built internally in companies;once a firm's internal network opens for massive external logins, many servers and private blockchains cannot work properly to protect data. In general, private blockchains store critical personal information or relevant confidential data;once a private blockchain opens to external access, all the information in the network nodes will be exposed, making private them lose their protection functions. This paper proposes a security mechanism using a private blockchain system based on zero trust architecture. The zero trust architecture tracks every user's network conditions and analyses whether their behaviors are authorized. Additionally, the system utilizes micro-segmentation to divide the private blockchain, preventing the system from malicious attacks. The proposed system employs user multi-factor authentication to identify users, and the zero trust architecture tracks and analyzes if users' behaviors are reasonable. This method effectively ensures corporate networks' security and enables private blockchain to filter legal and authorized users to access and verify. © 2024 Global IT Research Institute - GIRI.

A collaborative course called Global Awareness for Technology Implementation was conducted by the Faculty of engineering, Chulalongkorn University, Thailand, and the Tokyo Institute of Technology, Japan. The objective of this course was to facilitate the exchange of knowledge, perspectives, and experiences between Thai and Japanese students through project work, using an engineering design approach and the design thinking process to create innovation relevant to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). During the class, experts shared their knowledge and experiences with the students. The students then worked on their respective projects to develop solution concepts using the design thinking process. The proposed ideas include the application for English class, smart water quality checker, hydrogen-based energy system for rural area, reduced wasted fashion solution, and auto waste sorting machine. Finally, this study concluded with a summary of the results and findings on the empathy process in the chosen SDGs, and of the commonalities and differences between Thailand and Japan in terms of ideation. © 2023 IEEE.

Due to the exorbitant costs and extensive schedules associated with full-scale ground testing of nuclear thermal propulsion (NTP) systems, today's programs are looking to minimize or even eliminate this step, instead going straight to flight demonstration. Regardless of the benefits that doing so may provide, the fact is that no rocket engine, nuclear or otherwise, has ever been flown without first undergoing an extensive ground test and qualification program. While the safety consequences of an uncrewed, in-space nuclear failure may be minimal, the likely severity of the public, programmatic, and political response emphasizes prioritizing the probability of mission success, a.k.a. reliability, and confidence in this prediction. The following work presents a new methodology called Reliability-Driven Design and Test (ReDDT) with the goal of streamlining the test program through intentional design and test planning for a given NTP system-level reliability. The ReDDT methodology's foundation is based on the United States' Nuclear Engine for Rocket Vehicle Applications (NERVA) project's approach to testing, which was the first to set reliability and safety as the most critical parameters. After 22 successful full-scale reactor and engine tests, program estimates suggest NERVA planned to need only 8 more ground tests, 30 total, to achieve flight qualification. 30 full-scale ground tests is significantly fewer than the hundreds traditionally required for rocket qualification;however, it is still more than desired for today's NTP programs. Thus, NERVA's approach is further improved through introducing a qualitative failure mode analysis to identify which tests are necessary and maximize program efficiency. To verify the qualitative analysis, Shannon's Information Entropy theory and other modern uncertainty reduction techniques are applied to identify the test program that minimizes the system's technical uncertainty and thereby maximizes reliability. Today's space nuclear technology programs are often confronted with two fundamental challenges early in the project life cycle: 1) development and testing will be more expensive than a non-nuclear alternative, and 2) the consequences of failure will be more severe. As a result, many space nuclear programs have been designed to minimize testing and maximize their probability of success: their reliability. The United States1 Nuclear Engine for Rocket Vehicle Applications program recognized these facts early on, and by 1961 the program's primary objective set safety and reliability as the overriding considerations. This focus on reliability greatly influenced the engine's design towards minimizing the possible number of catastrophic failures modes. As such, the final configuration heavily relied on duplicate components for redundancy, including duplicate turbopumps. Despite these efforts, at program cancellation in 1972, the non-nuclear subsystem only achieved a mission predicted reliability of 33%. Some of the most significant contributions to rocket engine reliability in the last 50 years have been from advancements in the Health Monitoring System (HMS).Through rigorous instrumentation and control an engine's HMS has the potential to convert over 90% of a system's catastrophic failure modes to a safe shutdown situation. Due to this, many modern rocket engine designs no longer require redundant components and can prioritize performanceenhancing configurations over those that inherently minimize failure modes. Unfortunately, a standard liquid rocket engine HMS will likely not be compatible with a nuclear rocket engine (NRE).The HMS for a liquid rocket engine most often prevents catastrophic failure by shutting off flow to the combustion chamber. This would not work for a NRE, as removing propellant flow to the reactor could result in reactor overheating and meltdown. Food innovations have become crucial for manufacturing's business performance;however, new food product still has low consumers adoption rate even with extensive of research and new knowledge. While the outcomes of innovation may appear random, but the development of invention is not. Key elements such as managerial strategy, internal collaboration, and resources are complicated to fully understand and manage. An organization should take a systematic and practical approach to comprehend the associated factors for innovation management. Innovation management has grown in popularity in study and practice. Despite the rising number of studies on management innovation, there is still a gap in research that combines this body of knowledge, specifically for product innovation for food manufacturing. Therefore, this study undertakes a systematic review of product innovation management for food manufacturing during 1980-2020 to better understand the management of food product innovation. The review concluded the six key success factors of product innovation management for food manufacturing, which are top management, organizational structure and culture, resources (human, finance, technology), process management, collaboration, and environment and market orientation. © 2022 ACM.
