We developed a portable screening system designed for onboard entry screening at international airports. The system can identify passengers who are potentially infected with epidemic diseases such as severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) or pandemic influenza. With its size being small enough to be placed on airplane tray tables, the system enables entry screening while passengers are onboard. In addition, this automatic system may greatly reduce time and effort required for screening. This system is operated by a real time screening program via a linear discriminant analysis using derived variables, i.e., palmar pulse obtained by a reflective photo sensor, respiration rate determined by a 10-GHz microwave radar, and facial temperature measured by thermography. As reported in our previous study, the system has a higher accuracy in detecting influenza by using facial temperature, heart rate and respiration rate, compared to conventional fever screening. In order to assess the efficacy of this screening system, we tested on three influenza patients (38.4°C ≤ body temperature ≤39.2°C, 22-34 years) and 52 healthy volunteers (35.9°C ≤ body temperature ≤ 37.0°C, 20 29 years). The results showed that sensitivity and negative predictive value (NPV) are both 100%. In order to reduce negative false passenger, sensitivity and NPV are the most important parameters for entry screening at the boarders. The specificity and positive predictive value (PPV) were 88% and 33% respectively. This portable system can be applied to future onboard entry screening to safeguard public health at the boarders.

In this paper,we consider the property of the optimal assignment with minimized total expected risk in a limited-cycle problem with multiple *** most uncertain cases,the result and efficiency of a certain period (or a production cycle) are influenced not only by the risks which exist in current period but also by the risks which exist in the previous ***'s more,the risk itself is also affected greatly by the risks which exist in the earlier periods. This kind of problem is called a limited-cycle problem with multiple ***,the property of the optimal assignment is summarized when two workers with special processing rate ***,the property will be proved by a mathematical ***,the property of the optimal assignment will be also figured out when three special processing rate workers exist in two kinds of workers by numerical ***,the relevancy between the case that two special workers exist and the case that three special workers exist will be researched.

Large-scale scientific computations are often organized as a composition of many computational tasks linked through data flow. After the completion of a computational scientific experiment, a scientist has to analyze its outcome, for instance, by checking inputs and outputs of computational tasks that are part of the experiment. This analysis can be automated using provenance management systems that describe, for instance, the production and consumption relationships between data artifacts, such as files, and the computational tasks that compose the scientific application. In this article, we explore the relationship between high performance computing and provenance management systems, observing that storing provenance as structured data enriched with information about the runtime behavior of computational tasks in high performance computing environments can enable interesting and useful queries to correlate computational resource usage, scientific parameters, and data set derivation. We briefly describe how provenance of many-task scientific computations specified and coordinated by the Swift parallel scripting system is gathered and queried. © 2011 ACM.

In case of disasters, telecommunication infrastructure might be destroyed rising the demand of fast-deployment emergency wireless communication systems in order to provide communication services to victims and rescue teams. Recently, mobile ad hoc communications is considered as an efficient solution for emergency communications in disaster areas. Beside the advantages in terms of fast deployment and self-configuration capability, ad hoc communications networks show less performance in large scale networks. In this paper, we first discuss some proposed ad hoc based emergency communications models for wide scale disaster management. Then we present a hybrid system model of wireless data networks for emergency communications in disaster areas. Due to limited radio resource, resource management plays an important role to system performance and provide user's QoS. We propose a resource management scheme for the hybrid wireless networks in which selected powerful end users operate as temporary relay hosts (TRH) in order to utilize the system resource efficiently. The scheme combines network controlled handover, resource allocation and admission control and takes advantages of adaptive transmission rates and multi-hop/relay communication mode. Performance results obtained by computer simulation show that using the proposed resource management scheme can reduce the connection blocking probability i.e. increase the quantity of simultaneous connections.

With recent trends in utilizing renewable power to develop sustainable energy sources, WTG and PV are increasingly viable economic alternatives for sustainable power generation from conventional fossil fuels. Therefore, multi-state models are being generated to solve the intermittent power production problem of wind turbine generator (WTG) and photo voltaic (PV). However, a disadvantage of these units is the generation of highly variable electricity at several different timescales from hourly, daily, and seasonally. Related to variability is the short-term (hourly or daily) predictability of wind plant output. These problems result in serious damage to sustainable service concerns in both the design and operation of WTG and PV systems. Large scale systems can provide a solution to overcome sustainable service problem but are costly. A sufficient design will cause outages that lead to certain cost losses on the customer side. Therefore, planning a reasonable size is a major dilemma. For this objective, the three models of load model, generation model, and service cost model should be built. For the first two models, the loss of load expected (LOEE) and the loss of load expected (LOLE) can be calculated. Then, this reliability characteristic is evaluated with the existing system of generation units to decide the range of required renewable generators. Finally, the cost model is constructed with consideration of the sustainable service cost. The fuel and operation costs obviously contribute a rather large portion to the utility cost. From the total service cost chart, the amount that the sustainable service worth is tremendous when forced outage at a high level occurs and the customer is not fulfilled. However, the utility cost becomes the primary of the total service costs when sufficient capacity is constructed in the system, which is invested mainly to the conventional generating. Human interaction is highly intuitive: we infer reactions of our opponents mainly from what we have learned in years of experience and often assume that other people have the same knowledge about certain situations, abilities, and expectations as we do. In human-robot interaction (HRI) we cannot take for granted that this is equally true since HRI is asymmetrical. In other words, robots have different abilities, knowledge, and expectations than humans. They need to react appropriately to human expectations and behaviour. With this respect, scientific advances have been made to date for applications in entertainment and service robotics that largely depend on intuitive interaction. However, HRI today is often still unnatural, slow, and unsatisfactory for the human interlocutor. Both the sensorimotor interaction with environment and interlocutor, and the social aspects of the interaction still need to be researched and improved. Therefore, this full-day workshop aims to bring together researchers from different scientific fields to discuss these crosscutting issues and to exchange views on what are the preconditions and principles of intuitive interaction.

Background: In bioinformatics projects, scientific workflow systems are widely used to manage computational procedures. Full-featured workflow systems have been proposed to fulfil the demand for workflow management. However, such systems tend to be over-weighted for actual bioinformatics practices. We realize that quick deployment of cutting-edge software implementing advanced algorithms and data formats, and continuous adaptation to changes in computational resources and the environment are often prioritized in scientific workflow management. These features have a greater affinity with the agile software development method through iterative development phases after trial and error. Here, we show the application of a scientific workflow system Pwrake to bioinformatics workflows. Pwrake is a parallel workflow extension of Ruby's standard build tool Rake, the flexibility of which has been demonstrated in the astronomy domain. Therefore, we hypothesize that Pwrake also has advantages in actual bioinformatics workflows. Findings. We implemented the Pwrake workflows to process next generation sequencing data using the Genomic Analysis Toolkit (GATK) and Dindel. GATK and Dindel workflows are typical examples of sequential and parallel workflows, respectively. We found that in practice, actual scientific workflow development iterates over two phases, the workflow definition phase and the parameter adjustment phase. We introduced separate workflow definitions to help focus on each of the two developmental phases, as well as helper methods to simplify the descriptions. This approach increased iterative development efficiency. Moreover, we implemented combined workflows to demonstrate modularity of the GATK and Dindel workflows. Conclusions: Pwrake enables agile management of scientific workflows in the bioinformatics domain. The TF21 group of eLPCO (Aoyama Gakuin University General Institute) researches the business process and the education method of the Product Life-cycle management;PLM in the manufacturing business. In this project, We designed and developed "Production and Sales Service management" education program to understand the demand forecasting, Supply Chain management;SCM, and inventory management in the university education. In this paper, we discuss the class content design and development to understand the SCM and inventory management that is a part of this lesson program. This paper is shown below. First, the virtual manufacturing industry and the virtual business process are designed. Next, the lesson scenario is designed. Thirdly, the SCM experience simulator that used the spreadsheet software is developed. Finally, the developed lesson is executed, and the teaching evaluation is described.

Battery management of mobile robots has not been a strong focus of attention and is usually addressed by the simple use of battery thresholds. As a result decision of redirection to a charging station is fixed and takes into account neither a dynamic evaluation of the risk of battery depletion nor an evaluation of the gain, defined as the level of mission accomplishment that could be achieved. To address this issue, we propose a method of assessment of risk of battery depletion which achieves robustness toward unexpected events through the use of probability density functions. This risk assessment allows replacing the usage of battery threshold by a customizable risk-taking parameter, guaranteeing that redirection to the station corresponds to a favorable compromise between risk and level of mission accomplishment. In this paper, we evaluate this approach for self-docking mobile robots, in particular for situations characterized by discrete gain functions, such as mail delivery and garbage collector robots.
