In this paper,we study a model of social learning where individuals are under influence of others in their social *** our model,each agent receives private noisy signals about an unobservable,underlying state of the *** the end of each time period,the belief of an individual is equal to the convex combination of her posterior beliefs derived from the signal observed,and the priors of her *** model reduces to the well-known consensus model when private signals are *** show that if the network of social influences is strongly connected,then all agents will have asymptotically correct *** other words,all individuals will be able to asymptotically learn the true state of the world,as far as their observations are ***,we show that all agents assign asymptotically equal beliefs to the true state of the world.

In this paper, we present a video decoder chip for H.264/AVC high profile, MPEG-1/2 main profile and AVS Jprofile, which is capable of 60fps 1080p decoding at 200MHz. By applying a dedicated DRAM sub-system and a 2-D cache architecture, 50% of pins for DRAM connection and 36% of power consumption are saved, compared to state-of-the-art work in a system perspective. Meanwhile, 38% of gate count is reduced by applying resource sharing architectures between the 3 supported video formats.

Preventive Maintenance (PM) scheduling is a valuable tool to improve reliability and productivity in semiconductor manufacturing. In this paper, we propose an expanded PM Scheduling (PMS) model, which takes into consideration both tools' technical factors and production information. This model aims to schedule PM tasks given the criteria of maximum throughputs, minimum Work-In-Process (WIP) and minimum lateness of PM tasks under operation and resource constraints. In order to precisely model the joint impact of PM tasks on the throughput of cluster tools, we develop an innovative method to formulate availability function of cluster tools. Then, a Memetic Algorithm (MA) is developed to find a best solution for the PMS problem. Consequently, we can treat PMS problem with fine granularity of planning time unit and long scheduling horizon for large systems composed of complex integrated cluster tools in semiconductor manufacturing systems. High computational cost for solving large engineering optimization problems point out the design of parallel optimization algorithms. Population based optimization algorithms provide parallel capabilities that can be explored by their implementations done directly in hardware. This paper presents a hardware implementation of particle swarm optimization algorithms using an efficient floating-point arithmetic which performs the computations with high precision. All the architectures are parameterizable by bit-width, allowing the designer to choose the suitable format according to the requirements of the optimization problem. Synthesis and simulation results demonstrate that the proposed architecture achieves satisfactory results obtaining a better performance in therms of elapsed time than conventional software implementations.

The purpose of this paper is to compare the calculated and actual ground resistances at two 161/23.9-11.95-kV indoor-type substations in the system of Taiwan Power Company. For the calculated ground resistances, one- and two-layer soil models based on Sverak and Schwarz equations, the method of images and the current distribution electromagnetic grounding and soil structure analysis (CDEGS) program are performed. As for the actual ground resistances, they are found by subtracting the measured ground resistances which are obtained by the fall-of-potential method from the earth mutual resistances. As a result, the calculated ground resistance based on the method of images as the observation point located at the lower layer of the two-layer soil model is approximately equal to the actual ground resistance measured by the fall-of-potential method with the potential electrode buried at the lower layer. In addition, the ground potential rises (GPRs) at both substations are computed and compared with the minimum touch voltages for assessing the grounding system safety. The result shows that the design of the grounding system at both substations is unsafe under the one-layer soil model for humans with 50 and 70 kg body weight. With the development of the global business and logistics under the internet environment a Container Terminal (CT) system becomes more and more busy. Therefore, the available resources in the seaport get scarcer than before. In order to increase the operating efficiency of CT system, the resources planning problem has become a critical issue in the fields of operations research and logistics. In this paper, we introduce the Berth Allocation Planning (BAP) problem and formulate a multiobjective mathematical model considering each berth for container ship with different number of Quay Cranes (QCs) and balance of QC's workload. In order to solve this QC scheduling in BAP problem, we propose a multiobjective hybrid Genetic Algorithm (mohGA) approach with a priority-based encoding method. To demonstrate the effectiveness of proposed mohGA approach, numerical experiment is carried out and the best solution to the problem is obtained. Copyright © 2009 Inderscience Enterprises Ltd.

During gene expression, transcription factors are unable to bind to a transcription binding site (TFBS) involved in regulation if DNA methylation has occurred at the TFBS. Methyl-CpG-binding proteins may also occupy the TFBS and prevent the functioning of a transcription factor. Thus, the methylation status of CpG sites is an important issue when trying to understand gene regulation and shows strong correlation with the TFBS involved. In addition, CpG islands would seem to undergo cell-specific and tissue-specific methylation. Such differential methylation is presented at numerous genetic loci that are essential for development. Current DNA methylation site prediction tools need to be improved so that they include TFBS features and have greater accuracy in terms of the DNA region that is involved in methylation. We developed models that compare the differences across these regions and tissues. The TFBSs, DNA properties and DNA distribution were used as features for this classification. From the results, we found some TFBSs that were able to discriminate whether a sequence was methylated or not. The sensitivity, specificity and accuracy estimated using 10-fold cross validation were 90.8%, 80.54%, and 86.07%, respectively. Thus, for these four regions and twelve tissues, the performance levels (ACC) were all greater than 80%. We propose that the differential features or methylations vary between the different regions because the features common to each DNA region made up only 50% of the top 70 features. In this paper, the local stiffness of alive Caenorhabditis elegans (C. elegans) is evaluated by Environmental-Scanning. Electron Microscope (E-SEM) nanorobotic manipulation system. The local and surface stiffness of C. elegans is important to evaluate to inject or insert micro-nano probes for gene-deliver or electrophysiologic applications. At first, we observe their fine structures by E-SEM system directly;without any drying or dyeing processes. The viability of C. elegans inside E-SEM is determined from the motion of C. elegans before and after setting inside the E-SEM. The local stiffness of C. elegans is evaluated from the deformation area by applying the forces with nanoprobes. The nanoprobes were fabricated by Focus Ion Beam (FIB) etching at the tip of Atomic Force Microscope (AFM) cantilever. The measurement position can arbitrarily be controlled by the nanomanipulator under E-SEM observation. The local stiffness distribution of C. elegans was evaluated on its head, body (on/around alea) and tail. From the experimental results, the measured rigidity on lateral alae was higher than it around lateral alae. This local stiffness measurement information is important for nano-surgery, gene-deliver or electrophysiologic applications and novel cell diagnosis. ©2009 IEEE.

We consider a supply chain, which consists of N stocking locations and one supplier. The locations may be coordinated through replenishment strategies and lateral transshipments, i.e., transfer of a product among locations at the same echelon level. The supplier has limited production capacity. Therefore, the total amount of product supplied to the N locations is limited in each time period. When total replenishment orders exceed total supply, not all locations will be able to attain their base stock values. Therefore, different allocation rules are considered to specify how the supplier rations its limited capacity among the locations. We team up the modeling flexibility of simulation with sample path optimization to address the multi-location transshipment problem. We solve the sample average approximation problem by random search and by gradient search. With this numerical approach, we can study problems with non-identical costs and correlated demand structures.

Determination of BTEX by GC-MS in air of offset printing plants: Comparison between conventional and ecological inks

The use of inks containing organic solvents by the offset printing process implies in the release of volatile organic compounds to the work environment. Many of these compounds such as benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, and the xylene isomers (well known by the acronym BTEX) are extremely toxic. In this study, the BTEX concentrations were determined in two different printing plants that use distinct types of inks: the conventional and the so-called ecological, which is manufactured based on vegetal oil. Concentration ranges were 43-84, 15-3,480, 2-133, 5-459, and 2-236 μg m^-3 for benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, m + p-xylene, and o-xylene, respectively, for the conventional printing plant. At the ecological printing plant, concentration ranges were below limit of detection (-3 for benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, m + p-xylene, and o-xylene, respectively. BTEX concentrations are lower at the ecological printing environment than in the conventional, where mineral oil-based inks are used. However, the worker who cleans the printing matrices is exposed to high concentrations of ethylbenzene and xylenes, due probably to the cleaning product's composition (containing high amounts of BTEX). Although the BTEX concentrations found in both printing work environments were below the limits considered by the Brazilian Law for Activities and Unhealthy Operations (NR-15), the exposure to such vapors characterizes risk to the workers' health for some of the evaluated samples, mainly the personal ones. © Springer Science+Business Media B.V. 2009.
