In the contemporary Information systems protections itself are no more sufficient as a standalone solution. Modern enterprise must apply the whole set of complementary products, policies and procedures in order to protect itself against threats. Ensuring the security of Information System should be the sum of organizational and technical solutions. Due to the fact that contemporary Information systems are often sophisticated, heterogeneous and have dynamic character, individual solutions cannot ensure full protection against all threats. That is why it is worth to impose the layers of appropriate solutions which protect against its greatest number. In connection to the above very significant element of IS security management is appropriate implementation of protections and elaboration and implementation of education and awareness program. The aim of article is introduction to IS security management and presentation of the crucial requirements concerning implementation of appropriate protections on the basis of Polish enterprises' experiences.

A major problem for students in engineering programs is the integration of materials from various course subjects. Manufacturing engineers must integrate various subject materials to produce quality products at a competitive cost. The cost is controlled not only by the design but also by the materials and processes used to obtain the desired shape of the design. A software program was developed to assist students to consider material properties, mechanical properties, and cost considerations in selecting the best material and shape to meet specific design requirements involving load and deflection restrictions for simple structures. The software is used in the basic manufacturing processes course to assist students in the evaluation of different materials and shapes to meet specific design constraints for simple structures. © American Society for engineering Education, 2007.

Principle of membrane driven micro-pump was clarified in the previous paper[1], and its fundamental performance has been tested in the current paper. Namely, micro flow rate was measured by PIV (Particle Image Velocimetry) against a membrane displacement that is measured by a laser displacement gauge. The flow rate calculated from the membrane displacements resulted in about 1000 nl/min, on the other hand, the measured one scattered widely centered 300 nl/min. This difference may come from a bubble growth and diffusing process, nevertheless, the prototype seems applicable to a pumping system for μ-TAS, micro-fuel cell, etc.

In R&D project selection, experts (or external reviewers) always play a very important role because their opinions will have great influence on the outcome of the project selection. It is also undoubted that experts with high expertise level will make useful and professional judgments on the projects to be selected. So, how to assign the most appropriate experts to the relevant proposals is a very significant issue. This paper presents a hybrid knowledge and model approach which integrates mathematical decision models with knowledge rules, for the assignment of experts to review of R&D project proposals. The approach can be applied to government funding agencies in China and other countries. © 2007 IEEE.

This paper aims to present an illustrative case study on the economic impacts of transport infrastructure disruptions caused by the hypothetical Tokai-Tonankai earthquakes in Japan. We formulate a spatial computable general equilibrium (SCGE) model, which integrates a transportation model that can estimate two types of interregional flows of freight movement and passenger trips. The case study shows the impacts of transportation disruptions and the importance of network redundancy with transport-related economic losses corresponding to several scenarios from disasters and network levels of development.

RosettaNet consortium is an international e-business standardization organization working for establishing industry-wide, open e-business standards. Since its launch in June 1998, it has become one of the most leading e-business standard bodies in automating supply chain processes, particularly in the industries such as electronics and semiconductors. Recently, RosettaNet consortium is making efforts to extend its standard to cover more various industry sectors and businesses. The e-Logistics program is such an effort to apply RosettaNet framework to logistics domain. The RosettaNet PIP is a business process standard that specifies the unit tasks of a business activity between trading partners. As PIPs are fine-grained to clearly describe each business activities without redundancy, multiple PIPs should be collectively used to implement high-level business scenarios. In this research, we seek to design and implement a RosettaNet-based e-Logistics system that executes and manages multiple PIPs to automate logistics processes. By applying the e-Logistics system to a real world business that incorporates third-party logistics, we have verified the flexibility of our system for managing and controlling business processes composed of multiple PIPs. ©2007 IEEE.

Our paper will give a brief report on the study "In Search of Global engineering Excellence: Educating the Next Generation of Engineers for the Global Workplace" that eight international universities undertook between November 2005 and November 2006. The research team focused on the main areas: engineering in a Global Context. Team members first considered the historical, social, and economic context of engineering in their countries, and the trends and challenges with respect to their engineering workforce. They also studied the skills and abilities industry expects from engineers-now and in the future-and considered whether the emerging engineering workforce is well prepared. Preparing Global Engineers. The team then reviewed the various educational approaches used to prepare engineers for global practice, including an examination of their own engineering programs and universities. They considered all levels, undergraduate, graduate, and continuing education, as well as organizational and faculty development. Recommendations. Finally, based on their observations of the state of the global engineering workforce and engineering education programs, they identified four critical challenges to better prepare engineering graduates for global practice. © American Society for engineering Education, 2007.

The establishment of the Women in Science and engineering (WiSE) program represents the serious commitment of the University of Southern California to address the under-representation of women in science and engineering. Since the launch of the program in 2000, WiSE has helped to more than double the number of tenured and tenure-track women faculty at USC from 15 to 35, through its recruitment and retention programs. Its complimentary programs to support undergraduates, graduate students, and postdoctoral scholars through a range of financial awards and activities have also grown in scope and impact. This paper describes the programs developed and administered by WiSE, the perceived successes to date, the challenges that remain, and the future directions of the program to ensure continued progress toward gender equity in science and engineering at USC. Through an analysis of the WiSE program at USC, we hope to present a model from which others can draw on to tackle the same issues at their own institutions. © American Society for engineering Education, 2007.

Multi-disciplinary team projects are an important element in the ABET accreditation of engineering programs. The basic manufacturing processes course in the Industrial engineering program at West Virginia University is one of the courses used to meet the multi-disciplinary team requirement with teams of industrial engineering, mechanical engineering, and other engineering disciplines working on a design project with strength and deflection requirements considering different materials and shapes. A software program was developed to assist the students to determine the costs involved in selecting a material and shape to meet specific load and deflection requirements. This software utilized Microsoft Excel® and Visual Basic® Macro's for performing the calculations to determine the product costs. © American Society for engineering Education, 2007.
