Soilless food production, such as hydroponics, aeroponics and the more complex aquaponics, has been prevalent in urban and peri-urban regions to produce green leafy vegetables for human consumption but to no comprehensive exploration on how it impacts the environment. Adding of synthetic fertilizer in the water system has been the first-hand regiment to compensate for the below-threshold nitrate converted by Nitrosomonas that are suitable for plant growth, however, this causes additional environmental emissions when not properly treated. This study developed an integrated Mamdani Fuzzy Logic-based adaptive fertigation system (FLfert) in a recirculating three-layer partially controlled vertical aquaponics for lettuce and tilapia production which injects the optimum volume of KNO3, NH4H2PO4, and Ca(NO3)2 solutions appropriate to induce the apparent growth and quality of lettuce through a non-invasive vision system that captures leaf images and indirectly measures the nitrate, phosphate, and potassium macronutrients present in the water system. This vision system is embedded with a model that predicts the total chlorophyll concentration, vitamin C, and fresh weight of lettuce which makes the fertigation adaptive as these predicted phenotypes dictate the volume of fertilizer to be injected. The gate-to-gate Life Cycle Assessment confirmed that by implementing FLfert, the environment quality, economical resources, and human toxicity was reduced. The cannabis industry is facing challenges with the traceability of product standards and regulations, including lack of trust, visibility, and tracking system immutability. Blockchain technology (BCT) is a potential driver of cannabis supply chain traceability for improving the tracking system process, credibility, immutability, and decentralized application of the development process. This research focuses on exploring blockchain-based traceability in supply chain management (SCM) and developing an appropriate model. The findings of this study highlight the various elements involved in cannabis supply chain traceability. A conceptual framework for blockchain-based cannabis traceability in SCM is proposed in this paper, comprising four layers: (I) cannabis supply chain, (II) data interface, (III) traceability system, and (IV) blockchain. This approach can be integrated into the smart contract, consensus algorithm, blockchain application, and digital storage. © 2022 IEEE.

Quantifying intragroup and intergroup connections in non-disjoint groups in social networks: A comprehensive analysis incorporating edges' and nodes' weights

In this paper, we propose generalizations of the EI index to quantify the distinction between intragroup and intergroup connections in social networks. These generalizations enable the analysis of interactions between non-disjoint groups, as large-scale disjoint groups are rarely found in many empirical networks. By expanding social network analysis, these measures facilitate the identification of actors with greater similarities or differences, generating previously untapped knowledge. Furthermore, we propose incorporating both edges' and nodes' weights in assessing the EI index. Intuitively, our approach classifies each network edge as internal or external, depending on the attribute groups that each node linked by the given edge belongs to. Since nodes can belong to more than one attribute group, three methods of classifying a network edge are proposed which depend on the number of shared groups by the pair of nodes. We evaluate the new measures in two distinct network contexts. The first context involves a co-authorship network, where researchers, acting as network actors, are categorized based on their respective areas of expertise in management engineering. The second network consists of trade relations among countries in the Americas, with countries grouped according to their participation in trade agreements. The analysis showed which area of management engineering is more independent by having more internal connections and made it possible to investigate the role of trade agreements in the actual trades made by countries. These proposals provide a more comprehensive and nuanced understanding of network dynamics, allowing for a more precise comprehension of interactions and patterns present in social systems. © 2024 Elsevier Inc.

Referring to solution programs written by other users is helpful for learners in programming education. However, current online judge systems just list all solution programs submitted by users for references, and the programs are sorted based on the submission date and time, execution time, or user rating, ignoring to what extent the programs can be helpful to be referenced. In addition, users struggle to refer to a variety of solution approaches since there are too many duplicated and near-duplicated programs. To motivate learners to refer to various solutions to learn better solution approaches, in this paper, we propose an approach to deduplicate and rank common solution programs in each programming problem. Inspired by the nature that the many-duplicated program adopts a more common approach and can be a general reference, we remove the near-duplicated solution programs and rank the unique programs based on the duplicate count. The experiments on the solution programs submitted to a real-world online judge system demonstrate that the number of programs is reduced by 60.20%, whereas the baseline only reduces by 29.59% after the deduplication, meaning that users only need to refer to 39.80% of programs on average. Furthermore, our analysis shows that top-10 ranked programs cover 29.95% of programs on average, indicating that users can grasp 29.95% of solution approaches by referring to only 10 programs. The proposed approach shows the potential of reducing the learners’ burden of referring to too many solutions and motivating them to learn a variety of solution approaches.

This paper presents a model efficiently considering the anomalous loss as post-processing after the finite element analysis (FEA), and it is applied to the inverter excitation evaluation, especially the pulse-amplitude-modulation (PAM) inverter. The effectiveness of the designed FEA model is validated by non-oriented (NO) ring core experiments. The calculation result can express the iron loss obtained in experiments well. A new pulse pattern of the PAM excitation method is evaluated under two operating conditions. Under the first condition with the fixed maximum magnetic flux density Bmax considered as the conventional material evaluation, the iron loss with the PAM inverter excitation is smaller than that with the PWM inverter and sinusoidal excitations, and has the smallest value at the excitation angle of 165O in the PAM excitation. On the other hand, under the second condition with a fixed fundamental component value of the magnetic flux density Bf0, the iron loss becomes smaller in the order of the PWM, sinusoidal and PAM excitations, which heavily depends on magnitudes of the time harmonics of the flux density;the result obtained in this case has a different tendency with that in the first case where the Bmax is fixed. © 2021, Magnetics Society of Japan. This preliminary paper presents a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) to explore how consumer brand love of Micro, Small, Medium Enterprises (MSME) in Indonesia could be enhanced through branding strategies. MSMEs play important role in current Indonesia economic growth, but unfortunately, they focus on the trading and forget about the branding. It also examines previous research to observe what should be highligted about brand love, how to identify the variables of the consumer voices and if the latent consumer voices has been identified. To collect the literature data, ScienceDirect and Google Scholar were used as databases. There is a contradictive thing about the masstige brand and MSME's brands about brand love, brand loyalty and purchase intention. Some recommendations strategies could be determined such as good collaboration between the government and MSMEs, and how to gather the latent consumer voice. For further research could be suggested to include interview that would be converted to text document.

Given the cost, time requirements, and limited accessibility of Locked Wheel Skid Trailer (LWST) testing, this research explores alternative approaches to predicting skid number (SN) using more affordable and readily available devices. These alternatives offer quicker results, which is particularly relevant given the standardized nature of skid number measurements worldwide. The study focuses on predicting the (SN) generated by the LWST test through analyzing data from Dynamic Friction Tester (DFT), British Pendulum Tester (BPT), and Circular Texture Meter (CTM) using statistical and machine learning techniques. The research includes a thorough assessment of various prediction methods and factors influencing skid number accuracy, including strategies for handling missing data. Prediction models employ Multiple Linear Regression (MLR), Support Vector Machine (SVM), Artificial Neural Network (ANN), and Ensemble Bagged Tree (EBT) techniques, utilizing predictors such as Dynamic Friction Number at 20 km/h (DFT20), Dynamic Friction Number at 64 km/h (DFT64), British Pendulum Number (BPN), and Mean Profile Depth (MPD). The development of forty-eight models, including Full, Reduced, and individual predictor models, involved employing data imputation methods and stepwise regression. Significant correlations were observed among friction parameters, with DFT20 showing the highest correlation with skid numbers, while MPD exhibited the lowest. Following data imputation, notable enhancements in BPN's correlation were noted. The study emphasizes the superiority of Full models in skid number prediction accuracy, with EBT models, especially those enhanced by data imputation, demonstrating outstanding performance. Statistical simulations confirmed the reliability of these models, indicating minimal outliers, overfitting, and high accuracy in skid number estimation. Productivity and safety of the workers have been issues in most manufacturing facilities in Egypt and all over the world, as the main aim of any manufacturing facility is to increase profit and limit costs as much as possible. Through analysis and simulation, this paper aims to create a safe workplace for the worker; risk assessment and Failure Mode and Effect Analysis (FMEA) and the basics of the international standards ISO 31000 and ISO 45001 have been conducted to evaluate different hazards and potential risks. Moreover, lean tools such as 6S and Visual management are proposed solutions to enhance workplace safety and decrease the possibility or severity of potential risks. Therefore, a new workplace design, an example of a high-level hazard in industry in Egypt's local market, has been established for the steel manufacturing facility under consideration using Sketch Up. The results of the proposed solutions, such as new frameworks, worker safety training, equipment replacements, and applying lean tools, have shown a practically acceptable percentage of safety improvements and a decreasing risk priority number (RPN). The percentage decrease for (RPN) ranges between 31.43% to 90.47% for different potential risks.

With the growing demand for renewable-energy-powered hydrogen generation and the corresponding increase in plant capacity, individually controlling many electrolyzer stacks will be critical for increasing the plant's lifetime and efficiency. This paper introduces a rule-based controller framework targeting electrolyzer degradation to explore the opportunity space in multi-stack hydrogen plant control. A novel control-oriented degradation model is also presented in this work, which quantifies the impact of steady power input, fluctuating power input, and the number of startup/shutdown cycles on electrolyzer degradation. Using a wind power input signal, 13 controller configurations are tested on 5 MW hydrogen plants consisting of 2, 5, 10, and 25 stacks. These configurations are evaluated on their capability to mitigate electrolyzer degradation and efficiently produce hydrogen from the time-varying input power. The results show that multi-stack control for degradation can extend the plant's lifetime by more than a factor of 3 with minimal impact on instantaneous hydrogen production. © 2023 IEEE.
