Recurrent Neural Networks (RNNs) are commonly used in data-driven approaches to estimate the Remaining Useful Lifetime (RUL) of power electronic devices. RNNs are preferred because their intrinsic feedback mechanisms are better suited to model time-series data. However, the impact of RNN complexity on estimation accuracy is rarely discussed in the literature. This issue is important because choosing a lower-complexity model that delivers the same or similar performance as a higher-complexity model can increase implementation efficiency. In the paper, we use three RNN models, namely, the vanilla version, LSTM (Long Short Term Memory) and GRU (Gated Recurrent Unit) to conduct RUL estimation for power electronic devices. We use two accelerated aging datasets, one dataset targeting the package failure of MOSFETs, and the other dataset targeting package failure of power diodes. Our study shows that a lower-complexity RNN does not necessarily deliver a lower performance. Similarly, a higher-complexity model does not assure a higher performance. As such, our work highlights the importance of selecting a proper neural network for RUL estimation not biased towards complex models. This is especially useful and important for implementing such RUL estimation techniques in embedded resource-constrained and speed-limited computins platforms.

A mathematical model of a sustainable H2 generation reactor that utilizes aluminum and seawater is introduced. Conservation of species and the kinetics of the H2 production reaction from aluminum and seawater allowed for obtaining the process transient response in a batch reactor. Continuous steady state production was assessed by adding a balance of energy, allowing for reactants inlet mass flow rates, and calculating the outlet H2 mass flow (generation) rate. The theoretical H2 production curve data showed good quantitative and qualitative agreement with experimental data. The validated mathematical model was then used to optimize the continuous reactor. The maximum was sharp, since an 85% variation between the maximum and the smallest H2 generation rate value as a function of the inlet NaOH solution volumetric flow rate tested range was verified. Such fundamental result stresses the importance of operating the system at the optimal condition, no matter how complex the actual reactor design may be. Since aluminum is inexpensive, abundant, and fully recyclable, in situ sustainable H2 production could allow for fuel cell stacks to become all electric ships (AES) power sources. © 2023 IEEE.

We consider a problem of estimating the probability that the optimal value of a stochastic linear program exceeds a large threshold. Inspired by the classical theory of linear programming, we partition the sample space of random components so that the optimal value can be generated without solving a linear program for each sample. This enables us to develop an efficient importance sampling scheme for computing the said probability when the random components are jointly normal. We prove its asymptotic efficiency under the regime where the threshold increases. Our numerical experiments reveal that the proposed method significantly outperforms the existing simulation techniques in the literature. © 2021 IEEE.

One significant element brought about by the Busi-ness Continuity management System (BCMS) is the operation and maintenance of processes, capabilities, and response struc-tures that allow an organization to overcome interruptions. The outbreak of COVID-19 necessitated a forced change in this system structure. In this study, Rojana Industrial Park in Phra N akhon Si Ayutthaya Province, Thailand was chosen for a study site where the authors have been conducting ongoing research, to understand changes in industrial park activities affected by the pandemic. Wavelet analysis was employed to capture the time series change patterns of atmospheric composition. This approach aims to identify the altered realities of how BCMS adapts to rapid situational changes from a new perspective which is air quality. Comparing the concentration changes of NO 2 and PM2.5 between pre-pandemic 2019 and post-pandemic 2021 onward, no significant changes were observed in the relatively short-term industrial park activities ranging from a few days to a week; low coherence in high-frequent change of air quality. In contrast, significant changes were confirmed in the long-term concentration change patterns over 16 days or more; high coherence in low-frequency. This suggests that industrial park activities, including production activities and the movement of people and goods related to these activities, may have changed before and after the pandemic.

An e-Commerce company has been using an Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system for several years, but is still constrained in its implementation, this is reflected in the number of issue/change request tickets submitted by users who have not been able to reach ideal conditions. To overcome this problem, we need an appropriate reference model, the ERP system user acceptance model in companies. The study conducted factors that influence the level of acceptance of SAP ERP users in the XYZ group to then determine a model that is able to explain practically the level of ERP system user acceptance, which in turn can produce concrete proposals to increase ERP system user acceptance. Research is quantitative descriptive using factor analysis and regression analysis methods. The research method uses a questionnaire with a total of 107 valid respondents coming from 8 company names under the XYZ group in 6 Southeast Asian countries. The conclusion of the study is that there are 24 indicators and 4 factors that influence user acceptance of the SAP ERP system. These four factors are the low contribution of the ERP system, the quality of ERP systems and data, the development of ERP systems, and also the low quality of ERP system supporters. It is hoped that by optimizing the value of the 4 factors, the XYZ group can increase user acceptance of the SAP ERP system so that the system can provide benefits expected by the company to be competitive advantage. © 2021 Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

3D city models are an important cornerstone in the development of digital twin cities, allowing for various analyses and simulations. CityGML, as an open standard for 3D city models, emphasizes five main aspects: scale or level of detail (LoD), semantics, geometry, topology, and appearance. One of the important elements in CityGML 3D city models is representation of vegetation. Vegetation in CityGML, especially individual trees, is still limited in terms of detail and resolution, reducing its effectiveness for specific applications. This paper proposes a graph-based conceptual model for individual trees that conforms to the CityGML v2.0 specification. The model refers to the morphological structure of a tree consisting of roots, trunk, and crown (including branches, twigs, and leaves), and considers the five main aspects of CityGML. By enhancing semantic information and geometric details, the model aims to provide an information-rich and realistic representation of individual trees in a 3D city environment. The 3D tree model created based on this conceptual model may be applicable in the development of digital twin urban forests and virtual forest simulations that utilize immersive technologies such as the metaverse. This research opens up new opportunities in the development of solitary vegetation objects through CityGML ADE by including more detailed semantic and topological information. © Author(s) 2024.

This study focuses on the investigation of the influence of CO2 concentration on the carbonation process in cementitious paste using ordinary Portlandite cement and limestone-calcined clay cement, specifically on the water content distribution. Employing single-sided nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy for water profiling, we revealed that the water content of fine pores (interlayer space and gel pores) was consistent at the carbonation front under accelerated carbonation processes with CO2 concentrations of 5% and 1%, demonstrating the plugging effect where fine pore water governs the carbonation progress. This effect was absent under natural carbonation conditions because of the carbonation process was slower than drying. It was confirmed that the rate-determining mechanisms of natural and accelerated carbonation with CO2 concentrations greater than 1% were different. © 2024, The Authors. All rights reserved.

This study used experimental and computational analysis to investigate the advanced oxidation of bisphenol A (BPA) and 2,4 dinitroanisole (DNAN). The pseudo first-order reaction rate constants depended on the molar peroxide ratio and were between 0.13 and 0.28 per min for BPA and between 0.018 and 0.032 per min for DNAN. Hydroxyl radical scavenging was strongly implicated by the experimental results. The kinetic differences appear to be due in part to the energy requirement for oxidation, which was 9.32 kcal/mol for BPA and 36.37 kcal/mol for DNAN. Transformation pathways were analyzed using Density Functional Theory (DFT), which helped to predict the presence of experimentally-detected byproducts. The most energetically favored pathway for BPA oxidation begins with formation of hydroxylated derivatives, while for DNAN the most energetically favorable degradation pathway begins with substitution of methoxy group. Overall, these findings demonstrate the power of combining experimental and computational tools to reveal transformation mechanisms for emerging water pollutants. © 2023, The Authors.
