This article introduces differentially private log-location-scale (DP-LLS) regression models, which incorporate differential privacy into LLS regression through the functional mechanism. The proposed models are established by injecting noise into the log-likelihood function of LLS regression for perturbed parameter estimation. We will derive the sensitivities utilized to determine the magnitude of the injected noise and prove that the proposed DP-LLS models satisfy ϵ-differential privacy. In addition, we will conduct simulations and case studies to evaluate the performance of the proposed models. The findings suggest that predictor dimension, training sample size, and privacy budget are three key factors impacting the performance of the proposed DP-LLS regression models. Moreover, the results indicate that a sufficiently large training dataset is needed to simultaneously ensure decent performance of the proposed models and achieve a satisfactory level of privacy protection. © 2024, CC BY.

Solid waste creation will continue to grow both in amount and pace as long as there are human activities. The consequences of improper solid waste management are highly harmful to the environment and human health, requiring immediate action to stabilize the situation. This research represents a solid waste collection management system through several unified modelling language (UML) models. The motivation for utilizing the UML modelling approach in solid waste collection management is twofold: first, the environmental importance of solid waste management collection, second the efficiency of UML models in representing such a complex system. The models developed in this research serve as the initial step towards building an efficient mobile application for solid waste collection management. Such mobile application is expected to encourage the use of best practices to manage solid waste collection according to the recent rapid growth of mobile technology utilization.

Indonesia is entering Industry 4.0, but is still not using supportive technology, especially in residential areas. A compact house is one of the dwellings built on limited modern land, providing flexible use of space according to the activities carried out by residents. The current version of this type of residence, namely smart homes, is still far from what is expected. There is a need for the modern use of IoT in every room, which can adapt to the activities of residents to make it easier for residents to move. A grounded theory and descriptive approach was used to find the continuity of modern Industry 4.0 and IoT technology in smart homes with the compact house concept to find the novelty of design standards. The findings are in the form of lighting that can be adjusted via IoT to reduce the crime rates in abandoned homes or in homes that are not active because the residents are traveling. © 2023 The Authors

This study examines the preference of location of assignment of engineering professionals working in the Middle East. A survey method that allows for the use of structured questionnaire was adopted. The study was conducted to engineering professionals with a total of 55 participants. Data gathered was coded and analyzed using Conjoint Analysis. Results revealed that location of assignment in design offices or cities is still preferred over remote area assignments with attractive salary and other additional compensation packages. The research results recommend employers to also consider non-monetary aspects in order to retain valued employees in their companies. © 2022 ACM.

Flexible Delay-Doppler Domain Multiple Access for Massive Connectivity with High Mobility

Beyond 5G mobile networks are required to support the ultra-reliable data transmission with massive connectivity under high-mobility scenarios, where the delay-Doppler domain multiple access (DDMA) has been regarded as one of the potential candidates to avoid the severe performance degradation brought by double-dispersive channels. However, existing DDMA transceiver designs heavily rely on the shared codebooks or large guard space among user equipments (UEs), which restricts the flexibility, complexity, and spectral efficiency significantly. In this paper, we first propose the Zadoff-Chu training sequences-based frame structure and an element-wise iterative successive interference cancellation (SIC)-maximal ratio combining (MRC) detector for single-user transmission, which serves as the basis of flexible resource allocation in the delay-Doppler (DD) domain. The discussion is then extended to the MU downlink scenario, where rate splitting is adopted to effectively balance the noise and interference at the UE side to improve the bit error rate performance. For MU uplink cases, a non-orthogonal pilots-based iterative SIC-least square channel estimator is developed to promote the spectral efficiency while the iterative SIC-MRC detector is also provided. Simulation results demonstrate the excellent performance of the proposed DDMA scheme under typical DDMA patterns without guard space between UEs. © 2025 IEEE. All rights reserved.

With the start of the 5G operations, it will become more important to apply communication systems to automo-biles, which has been promoted in recent years as connected cars. Multi-band antennas are required to reduce the in-vehicle space which is occupied by communication equipment. We de-signed dual-band antennas for the sub-6 GHz 5G bands and the intelligent transport systems (ITS) especially the driving safety support system (DSSS) by loading helical elements to modified conical antennas (MCA), and conducted simulations and meas-urements. As a result, the antenna satisfied the sub-6 and ITS DSSS bands in the simulations. There were slightly differences between the calculated and measured results. © 2022 IEEE.

Hybrid energy projects are gaining global interest due to their potential to promote sustainable development. This study addresses a gap in the literature by proposing a stochastic model that assesses the economic feasibility of a hybrid energy system combining wind, photovoltaic generation, and battery storage. Unlike traditional deterministic approaches, the model incorporates uncertainties in key financial and operational variables, improving decision-making in real-world conditions. The optimization framework integrates Design of Experiments (DoE), Response Surface Methodology (RSM), and the Desirability function to balance economic return and financial risk. By maximizing the mean and minimizing the variance of the Net Present Value (NPV), the model identifies an optimal system configuration with 92% wind energy, a demand level of 230 kWh/month, and lithium-ion battery storage. This approach reduces computational complexity and enhances hybrid system viability in regions with strong wind resources, providing a valuable tool for investors and policymakers in sustainable energy planning. © 2025 Taylor & Francis Group, LLC.

Impact of Telemedicine Adoption on Hemiplegia in Patients With Stroke in Florida: Longitudinal Observational Study

Background: Telemedicine has emerged as a critical tool in the management of acute stroke;yet, its impact on clinical decision-making, particularly in the administration of tissue plasminogen activator (tPA), remains underexplored. Understanding how telemedicine influences tPA use and subsequent patient outcomes, such as hemiplegia, is critical for optimizing stroke care protocols. Objective: This study aims to assess whether the adoption of telemedicine influences treatment decisions regarding tPA administration in patients with stroke. In addition, we used a causal mediation framework to examine the causal path between telemedicine adoption and the occurrence of hemiplegia via tPA use. Furthermore, we conducted a moderated mediation analysis to investigate the extent to which regional differences (metropolitan vs nonmetropolitan locations) impact this mediated relationship. Methods: We analyzed data of patients with stroke from Florida’s State Emergency department Database (SEDD), State Inpatient Database (SID), and the Healthcare Information and management systems Society (HIMSS) database, covering the years 2010 to 2017, with a focus on telemedicine adoption. The final sample includes 314,665 visits from patients with stroke. A fixed-effects model was used to examine the relationship between telemedicine adoption and tPA use and between tPA use and hemiplegia occurrence. A causal mediation framework was then applied to estimate the average direct effect and the average causal mediation effect of telemedicine on hemiplegia through tPA use. In addition, a moderated mediation analysis was performed to explore how metropolitan status influences the mediation process. Results: We found that telemedicine adoption is associated with a 1% decrease in tPA use (coefficient=–0.010;95% CI –0.013 to –0.007;P<.001), and that the use of tPA is associated with a 23.7% increased probability of hemiplegia (coefficient=0.237, 95% CI 0.231-0.243;P<.001). Portfolio selection is an important part of investment management that aims to select the right combination of assets to achieve an optimal risk-return ratio. This study integrates the Mean-Variance Theory utilizing the 30-year historical returns of the Philippine Stock Exchange. Three subsectors of the Industrial Sector were used as the investment pool. The back-test results showed that the MeanVariance portfolios of selected subsectors can outperform the industrial sector and not the market. Stakeholders must be cautious when investing in these three subsectors, considering the values obtained from the simulations. There are recommended portfolio selections wherein companies have a specific allocation that investors and financial managers can use whenever they decide to invest in these subsectors. Overall, this study offers a framework for investors to use as a guide in diversifying their stakes in the Philippine Stock Exchange.

Today’s rapid proliferation of information and technological advancements has led to complex and uncertain modern systems *** problems resulting from this increased complexity may surpass engineers’current capacity to perform effectively within the domain of complex *** response to this situation,the concept of systems Thinking(ST)has been advanced as an aid to building a mental map that offers a robust conceptual understanding to offset the challenges of modern system of systems(SoS)*** there has been some research regarding the effect of age and gender on ST preferences,there is still a lack of studies investigating how an individual’s ST skills preferences in system of systems(SoS)domain vary across educational *** addition,most of the extant literature focuses on one or two measures to assess the individual ST;thus,there is a need to include the full spectrum of ST measures to assess the ST skills preferences of an individual in the domain of complex *** address these gaps,this research uses an established ST skills preferences instrument to gauge an individual’s ST skills preferences in the SoS domain based on the educational *** hundred and fifty-eight participants with educational qualifications ranging from non-degree to graduate degree participated in the *** analysis of the responses was performed by a post-hoc test to show which groups differ *** the results obtained through aggregate individual responses,we conclude that each group(i.e bachelor,masters and phD),possesses a different ST skills preference profile on average,and the educational qualifications in the SoS environment has a moderation impact on individuals’system skills preferences.
