Anion detection gain wide interest because anions play important roles in many fields. Microfluidic paper analytical devices (μPADs) are promising for monitoring anions due to their low cost, short time analysis, and simple operation. In this work, we demonstrated the utilization of 8-hydroxyquinoline zinc (Znq2) nanocrystal (NCs), immobilized on μPADs for anion detection. By controlling the pH using MES buffer pH 5, Znq2 NCs showed prominent detection of anions. By applying a proper concentration of Zn2+ solution, Znq2 NCs show an obvious color change even at a low millimolar level which is possible to detect the anions in a real sample application. © 2022 MicroTAS 2022 - 26th International Conference on Miniaturized systems for Chemistry and Life Sciences. Enhancing disaster awareness and preparedness is crucial for building resilient societies. This study comprehensively assessed the levels of disaster awareness and preparedness among children and adults in Thailand through qualitative and quantitative surveys. Children strongly emphasized the importance of disaster education in school curricula, leveraging multimedia channels for risk communication, and implementing early warning systems. In contrast, adults exhibited a greater understanding of the significance of business continuity and disaster management technologies. These findings revealed disparities in disaster awareness across age groups. The insights from this study suggest age-specific engineering system approaches to information dissemination, contributing to the development of inclusive disaster preparedness strategies that incorporate diverse stakeholder perspectives. Children highlighted the need for practical training on survival skills, accessible disaster communication through SMS alerts, and monitoring systems for timely information dissemination. Adults, on the other hand, placed greater importance on business continuity planning and recognized the usefulness of technologies like satellite imagery for disaster management. By identifying these gaps and areas for improvement, this research provides valuable guidance for tailoring interventions, fostering a culture of preparedness, and harnessing technological solutions that resonate with the needs and concerns of different age cohorts within Thai society.

This study embarked on a rigorous examination of the factors driving user satisfaction and usage behavior in the context of telehealth applications. Utilizing a well- structured Google Form survey, distributed through an array of social media platforms, including WhatsApp, Discord, Instagram, and Line, the research gathered 251 responses. The purposive sampling technique was employed to ensure that the data captured the experiences of individuals who had actively engaged with telehealth services. One hypothesis, relating to the influence of Online Reviews, was found to be unsupported. This surprising result suggests that, contrary to expectations, the opinions and reviews shared online do not significantly affect users’ satisfaction or their behavioral decisions in the context of telehealth applications. This finding highlights the need for a more nuanced understanding of the factors influencing user preferences and choices in this rapidly evolving sector. Conversely, other hypotheses examining factors such as Social Influence, Facilitating Conditions, Perceived Reliability, Price Value, and Purchase Intention were substantiated. The positive influence of these factors on customer usage behavior underscores their significance in shaping user experiences and satisfaction within the telehealth ecosystem. Furthermore, the study posits that facilitating conditions should be closely aligned with technological advancements, as this alignment is conducive to the development of enhanced application features. This insight suggests that telehealth providers should continuously innovate and integrate advanced technologies to ensure that the facilitating conditions meet the ever-evolving needs and expectations of users.

Enhancing electronic properties by suppressing nucleation delay for low-temperature processed atomic-layer-deposited amorphous zinc–tin-oxide thin films

Atomic-layer-deposited (ALD) zinc-tin-oxide (ZTO) thin films offer promising electronic properties for many applications, but their development has been limited by their tendency to experience significant nucleation delay—which tends to introduce impurity—during deposition. This study utilized in-situ quartz crystal microbalance (QCM) analysis combined with ex-situ compositional analysis to examine the nucleation-delay characteristics of ZTO ALD and their dependence upon the oxidant-precursor settings. The results indicated that nucleation delay occurred solely during the ZnO-on-SnO2 deposition step as a result of persisting ethyl ligands of the organozinc precursor, diethylzinc, which could be mitigated by using H2O2 instead of H2O as the oxidant precursor and introducing a discrete-feeding or exposure procedure for the H2O2 half cycle to increase the effective oxidant dose. The effects of nucleation delay on the electronic properties of ALD ZTO films was examined with thin-film transistor (TFT) devices, where suppression of nucleation delay yielded substantial improvement in the device performance, achieving a high field-effect mobility of 21.5 cm2/V s, low sub-threshold swing of 0.16, high on/off ratio of 2 × 108, and enhance-mode operation without needing elevated-temperature post-processing. The findings present valuable improvements over the state of the art and provide insights useful for the development of other types of ALD multi-component films. © 2024

Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI) represents a significant milestone in the development of artificial intelligence, bringing sophisticated AI capabilities into daily life and work. As we approach the era of Hyper Intelligence (Hyper-I), a variety of critical challenges and emerging issues have come to light, ranging from computational complexity to ethical concerns. This paper explores the evolution of AI from the perspective of human learning, comparing machine and human intelligence, and identifying key considerations for the development of future AI systems. It also highlights the growing importance of regulating advanced AI models, such as Reinforcement Learning-based Long-Term Planning Agents, to ensure that Hyper-I remains under human control. Additionally, the paper discusses the computational complexity of transformer-based models, their applicability to intractable problems, and their role in cognitive building systems and resource-constrained environments through TinyML. By analyzing these pressing challenges, this work provides insights into the future of AI and the path toward responsible innovation in generative and hyper-intelligent systems.

Anomalies in motor function and social communication skills constitute early signs of autism spectrum disorder (ASD). In recent years, researchers have paid attention to the possibility of the quantitatively evaluating infants' social communication skills based on their eye movement. In this paper, we attempt to evaluate ASD risk using infants' eye movement data by examining the relationship between eye movement patterns at 4, 10, and 18 months of age and ASD risk as assessed by caregivers using a checklist at 18 months of age. A total of 18 eye movement indices were calculated from eye movement data measured by an optical eye tracker. The results revealed an association between ASD risk and eye movement indices. The indices included those related to a preference for social information at 4 months of age, those related to visual exploration of images at 10 months of age, and those indices related to both preference and visual exploration at 18 months of age. These results indicate that eye movement analysis may potentially serve as a means for early screening of ASD risk. © 2025 IEEE.

MSStyleTTS: Multi-Scale Style Modeling with Hierarchical Context Information for Expressive Speech Synthesis

Expressive speech synthesis is crucial for many human-computer interaction scenarios, such as audiobooks, pod-casts, and voice assistants. Previous works focus on predicting the style embeddings at one single scale from the information within the current sentence. Whereas, context information in neighboring sentences and multi-scale nature of style in human speech are neglected, making it challenging to convert multi-sentence text into natural and expressive speech. In this paper, we propose MSStyleTTS, a style modeling method for expressive speech synthesis, to capture and predict styles at different levels from a wider range of context rather than a sentence. Two sub-modules, including multi-scale style extractor and multi-scale style predictor, are trained together with a FastSpeech 2 based acoustic model. The predictor is designed to explore the hierarchical context information by considering structural relationships in context and predict style embeddings at global-level, sentence-level and subword-level. The extractor extracts multi-scale style embedding from the ground-truth speech and explicitly guides the style prediction. Evaluations on both in-domain and out-of-domain audiobook datasets demonstrate that the proposed method significantly outperforms the three baselines. Social costs increase as traffic problems continue. Driverless vehicles are attracting attention as a way to overcome this issue. Many said that fully autonomous driving is not a distant future. As one of the autonomous vehicle operations, vehicle platooning has been paid attention. Therefore, this study analyzes the effects of vehicle platooning on the road network. As a large-scale network, Jeju island, one of the cities in Korea was selected to test the platooning arrangement. A macro simulation was developed and calibrated based on the collected traffic counts, and then the network and assigned paths were imported to the micro simulation, which is capable of forming the platoon. The analysis was conducted by changing various parameters of the platooning vehicle. According to the investigation, it can be seen that as the market share of autonomous vehicles increases, delays decrease, and speed increases. Traffic efficiency was improved through platooning in general. It is expected that the results of this study can be used as primary data to develop an optimal traffic flow management strategy for cluster operation. © 2023 Elsevier B.V.. All rights reserved.

Prescribed-time stabilization for high-order nonlinear systems with a pre-specified asymmetric output constraint

This article considers the problem of prescribed-time stabilization for a class of uncertain high-order nonlinear systems (i.e., systems in the p-normal form) with a pre-specified asymmetric output constraint. A core ingredient, tangent-type barrier function, is proposed first by skillfully excavating and assimilating the inherent properties of system nonlinearities. Based on the barrier function, as well as a serial of nested signum functions, the celebrated technique of adding a power integrator is renovated finely to establish a new design approach by which a continuous state feedback prescribed-time stabilizer, along with a tangent-type asymmetric barrier Lyapunov function, can be constructed in a systematic fashion, thereby guaranteeing the performance of prescribed-time state convergence and ensuring the fulfillment of pre-specified output constraints surely. Benefiting from the composite characteristics of the presented tangent-type barrier Lyapunov function and the signum functions, the proposed approach further offers a unified nature in design enabling us to organize a prescribed-time stabilizer that is simultaneously valid and executable for the system undergone or free from output constraints, without the need of changing the controller structure. The effectiveness and superiority of the developed approach are illustrated by a numerical example. © 2022 The Franklin Institute
