Applying the TOD Standard for Potential Location Selection for Sustainable Transit-Oriented Development in Chiang Mai Province, Thailand

Transit-oriented development (TOD) was organized as policies to promote the development of public transportation infrastructure in many countries, including the Thai government. Presently, Thailand is aiming for the growth of the city spreads in each region along with economic growth by stimulating sustainable development, especially in Chiang Mai Province. The purpose of this study was to implement the application of the TOD standard as an analytical tool in the context of Thailand. We adapted TOD standard as an instrument and indicator for physical data collection on areas that have the potential to be developed into TOD stations in Chiang Mai. The TOD standard as a selection tool will be used to score the selected three stations located on the Chiang Mai Red Line Mass Transit System Project that has the potential to develop into TOD. Data collection covers a radius from the stations of 500 meters and 500 – 1000 meters for commercial and residential land use, respectively. The scoring shows that the Airport station is the most potential area, followed by the Chiang Mai Rajabhat University and Nakornping hospital station. The results show that TOD standards had the potential to be used in the context of Thailand to enhance assessment, help in planning and drawing TOD policy for the upcoming station project, and identify specific TOD characteristics that need improvement. © 2022 Authors. Workforce Development and Training Needs for Behavioral Health Telehealth Use in the Post COVID-19 Era

Temporary regulatory changes early in the COVID-19 pandemic facilitated telehealth use, but with an increased return to in-person care in some settings, understanding provider attitudes about the practice and benefits of telehealth may help to inform policy and practice. This mixed methods study seeks to identify areas of training needed for effective telehealth provision in this new era. An online survey was distributed by five Mental Health Technology Transfer Center (MHTTC) regional service centers, which provide workforce capacity-building training and technical assistance, and the MHTTC Network Coordinating Office’s national listserv. Three hundred and sixty-five respondents from 43 states and Puerto Rico participated. The majority of respondents were clinical providers (69.3%). Eighty-five percent of respondents indicated they provided at least one telehealth service. Most indicated telehealth has improved their organizations’ ability to meet patient needs and increased access for underserved populations but suggested significant needs for continued training on telehealth use. These needs were consistent across organization locations and provider types. Qualitative analysis of free response questions identified key areas for ongoing training, including administrative topics (e.g., billing, documentation);integration of telehealth with existing systems;telehealth use with specific populations, especially children;and methods to increase access to technology for less-connected populations. Despite many providers receiving exposure to telehealth use during COVID-19, training in telehealth administration is still needed and may better serve those in certain roles and areas. While ongoing training may effectively address many needs identified, other significant concerns facing behavioral health providers may not be easily addressed via training (e.g., increasing technology access) and may require other approaches to facilitate the continued use of telehealth. © 202

To accurately assess the dynamic impact of a company’s activities on its Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) scores, we have initiated a series of shared tasks, named ML-ESG. These tasks adhere to the MSCI guidelines for annotating news articles across various languages. This paper details the third iteration of our series, ML-ESG-3, with a focus on impact duration inference—a task that poses significant challenges in estimating the enduring influence of events, even for human analysts. In ML-ESG-3, we provide datasets in five languages (Chinese, English, French, Korean, and Japanese) and share insights from our experience in compiling such subjective datasets. Additionally, this paper reviews the methodologies proposed by ML-ESG-3 participants and offers a comparative analysis of the models’ performances. Concluding the paper, we introduce the concept for the forthcoming series of shared tasks, namely multi-lingual ESG promise verification, and discuss its potential contributions to the field. © 2024 ELRA Language Resource Association.

A TWO-STAGE FEDERATED LEARNING APPROACH FOR INDUSTRIAL PROGNOSTICS USING LARGE-SCALE HIGH-DIMENSIONAL SIGNALS

Industrial prognostics aims to develop data-driven methods that leverage high-dimensional degradation signals from assets to predict their failure times. The success of these models largely depends on the availability of substantial historical data for training. However, in practice, individual organizations often lack sufficient data to independently train reliable prognostic models, and privacy concerns prevent data sharing between organizations for collaborative model training. To overcome these challenges, this article proposes a statistical learning-based federated model that enables multiple organizations to jointly train a prognostic model while keeping their data local and secure. The proposed approach involves two key stages: federated dimension reduction and federated (log)-location-scale regression. In the first stage, we develop a federated randomized singular value decomposition algorithm for multivariate functional principal component analysis, which efficiently reduces the dimensionality of degradation signals while maintaining data privacy. The second stage proposes a federated parameter estimation algorithm for (log)-location-scale regression, allowing organizations to collaboratively estimate failure time distributions without sharing raw data. The proposed approach addresses the limitations of existing federated prognostic methods by using statistical learning techniques that perform well with smaller datasets and provide comprehensive failure time distributions. Mealtime is one of the pleasures of daily life and an important factor in ensuring the quality of life. Aging and brain and neurological diseases often complicate eating. In particular, the ability to swallow food directly, such as in dysphagia, has a significant impact on eating. In this study, a new observation method was proposed for the cricopharyngeal muscles, which are important for swallowing. Experiments were conducted on two healthy participants. A muscle deformation sensor was used to observe the cricopharyngeal muscles. The results showed that the contraction and relaxation of the cricopharyngeal muscle during swallowing can be visualized noninvasively and easily using muscle deformation sensors in healthy subjects. Based on this experiment, the possibility of its clinical application in patients with dysphagia is suggested. © 2024 Interfaces and Human Computer Interaction. All Rights Reserved.

In today’s complex global environments, it is highly challenging to achieve effective healthcare management. The critical challenges faced by healthcare management are being met by the revolution of m-health where mobile cloud computing plays a major role. The taxonomy of mobile computing comprises operational aspects, end-user issues, and service quality and mobility management. The use of smartphone technologies and applications has become a highly significant approach to improving healthcare management. Mobile health services such as mobile pathology, mobile neurosurgery, cancer treatment, and behavioral/psychological disorders are gaining significance where smartphone applications are being used. Portability, flexibility, and convenience are major characteristics of mobile computing that have helped patients and doctors to develop better relationships through coordination and communication. The relationship between smartphone technologies and applications and healthcare management can be understood in several broad aspects. This article aims to analyze the current and future implications of these technologies on healthcare and disease management systems.

In 2023, we proposed a hypothetical knowledge management framework that incorporates science fiction prototyping (SFP) into the traditional roadmapping (RM) method to make RM more innovative and create a future beyond what we can currently imagine. Our main objective is to create a new organizational knowledge co-creation method for generating innovative ideas by incorporating humanistic factors utilizing SFP into RM. In the current article, we present the exploratory study we conducted to examine the hypothetical framework. Experimental workshops were held in November 2023 to compare the integrated method, in which SFP is applied to RM, with the original RM method. We followed a crossover design in the workshops and analyzed the results qualitatively and quantitatively following the perspectives proposed in the hypothetical framework. The qualitative analysis revealed successful integration regarding diverse and broader perspectives. The quantitative analysis utilizing Wilcoxon signed rank tests showed that the scores of the integrated method were significantly higher than those of RM for variables evaluating the effectiveness of the integration, while not for variables related to participants' feelings and satisfaction with the workshops, and sustainability. These findings indicate that the integration was successful in terms of its effectiveness as a method, while participants' subjective feelings toward the workshops were not different in both methods. As for sustainability, which requires a long-term perspective, no apparent differences were observed in these short-term workshops. © 2024 PICMET.

This paper introduces an approach for designing gain-scheduled dynamic output feedback controllers for continuous-time Linear Parameter-Varying (LPV) systems. The aim is to improve transient response by incorporating both D-stability and H∞ criteria into the synthesis conditions. We achieve this by employing changes of variables and congruence transformations, which lead to new synthesis conditions expressed as linear matrix inequalities. Additional fine-tuned scalar parameters can be used to enhance further the controller performance in terms of less conservative H∞ guaranteed costs. To assess the effectiveness of our proposed synthesis procedure, we conduct computational experiments in the context of a microinverter-based distributed power generation system. These experiments take into account real-world operational characteristics, providing a comprehensive evaluation of our approach. The results demonstrate that the designed controller effectively ensures the desired closed-loop system behavior, even when dealing with state noise and discretization errors originating from digital implementation. © 2024 The Franklin Institute

Knowledge acquisition is important for innovation and adaptation of organizations including universities. New knowledge and capabilities can be acquired from inside or outside of the institution. There are large body of literature discuss the interaction of universities and the other Triple-helix model’s agents, but rarely found and discuss intra helices interactions. This research explores the characteristics of Indonesian academic inventors’ knowledge acquisition strategy for patenting in Indonesia. There are two points of view of this research: firstly, the study discusses the knowledge acquisition strategy of Indonesian universities in regard of the knowledge diversity among two collaborating universities and secondly, how is the magnitude of knowledge gaps between two entities influencing the decision for inhouse or out of university *** the data from Sinta, knowledge diversity index is measured using Shannon entropy index of the academic inventor’ expertise, university’s department, and university’s division. The research recognition’s gap between two collaborating inventors is measured using the difference of their Scopus’ h-indices. The findings show some interesting facts of how academic inventors strategize their collaboration patterns. First, interuniversity collaborations for patenting reveal more diversity on the academic inventors’ knowledge than those are in intra-university collaborations. Second, collaborations for patenting with different universities expect better knowledge spill-overs than collaborations within a university. But, this knowledge spill-over only significant at individual level but not at institutional level. It seems that individual recognition is more important than institutional recognition when choosing a collaboration partner.

This study reports on the fabrication and characterization of a copper oxide (CuO)-based photoactive cell. Copper was thermally evaporated onto two substrates and post-treated using chemical and thermal treatments to obtain different semiconducting types of CuO. Absorption measurements were conducted to obtain the bandgaps of CuO, which were found to be 1.51 eV and 1.21 eV, for the chemically and thermally treated CuO, respectively. Finally, a chronoamperometry test was conducted to confirm the photoresponse of the cell, which showed a doubling of output current values under light conditions compared to dark conditions.
