Contingency perspective to bridge human capital perception to achieve ambidexterity in environmental dynamism

Environmental change and technological disruption are expanding phenomena impacting today's economic world. A dynamic business environment can inspire companies to engage in both exploitative and exploratory innovation at the same time. Traditional financial technologies have evolved substantially over the past decade. Although the environment challenges technology to adapt to business sustainability, artificial intelligence has not replaced human bankers. There is, however, a scarcity of research on the relationship between ambidextrous work and human capital, indicating that few studies have been undertaken. To better understand how banks can achieve such organizational ambidexterity, we develop a framework that investigates the combined effects of organizational human capital (O-HC), environmental dynamism (END), and technological capacity (TEC) on organizational ambidexterity (ORA). The theory of contingency is the theoretical foundation of the subject. This quantitative analysis used a sample size of sixty-three executives from Indonesia's banking industry and was analyzed using PLS-SEM and SPSS to determine the measurement and structural models. The results show that TEC and O-HC directly affected ORA, but END did not. We also found that firms with O-HC are more likely to utilize high TEC to promote ORA. The findings of this study provide practitioners with insight into how they can promote human capital and TEC as pillars of ambidextrous banking. This research contributes to the literature on ORA and offers managers insights on aligning their knowledge practices to develop TEC when pursuing ORA. © 2024 The Authors

Nowadays, the Business Continuity management (BCM) is one of the most effective programs to reduce impact from crisis, incident, or any disaster for organizations focusing on their continuity operations. In addition to handling the incident which disrupts or interferes the business processes, the BCM has been developed into a new term of strategy like "resilience."The purpose of this research is to develop and implement the BCM framework program for family. In this study, the proposed "Family Continuity management"(FCM) program training was conducted for 51 medical staffs. There are 10 phases in the FCM training program experiment. The samples gave their opinions to this study for future program improvement through face-to-face interview after FCM training program. This conceptual idea is expected to guide the FCM program future improvement. © 2020 ACM.

The energy control of a Wireless Sensor Network (WSN) often leads to an unbalanced state between the battery storage system, energy extraction through photovoltaic systems energy, and energy utilization in the WSN. These disparities result in suboptimal wireless sensor network performance. The reliance on batteries is a major factor contributing to this problem. The Q-Learning Energy management System (Q-EMS) is designed to address these challenges and improve energy management strategies. The Q-EMS algorithm used a learning process resulting in optimal actions for sensor nodes in different situations. The rewards or punishments nodes receive determine their decisions, which are determined by the Q-EMS algorithm. The Q-learning model approach is aimed at reducing energy consumption and supply in WSNs. Energy supply is categorized into battery-based, transfer-based, and harvesting, while energy consumption can be classified into task-cycle, mobility-based, and data-driven. The development of the Q Learning algorithm model has three scenarios: determining energy needs for WSN, effective energy harvesting strategy, and effective energy transfer. As a result, effective energy demand, harvesting and transfer using the Q-learning algorithm are balanced. However, it needs to be studied in more depth using real data in the field. In future research, I will use real data and optimize the use of the Q-Learning algorithm.

Oil and gas industries within the energy sector are a significant contributor to carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions, a primary driver of climate change and global warming. However, research on their efforts to combat this issue remains limited. This study investigates climate initiatives by five major oil companies, emphasizing carbon capture, utilization, and storage (CCUS). Analyzing 98,730 patents from 2000 to 2022, the results show that they collectively registered 871 CCUS-related patents. ExxonMobil leads with 359, followed by Shell, though 70 % of its patents are inactive. The primary technical fields of these five companies include technologies developed to capture and dispose of CO2, and to utilize a bio-feedstock approach in the oil refining and petrochemical industry. Our findings reveal that all five companies have strategically integrated CCUS into their business operations, forming partnerships with third-party emitters as partners and customers, and implementing efforts to lower the carbon burden of existing assets. These findings are expected to help with strategic decision-making, guiding targeted investments, and paving the way for future research and development endeavors in the rapidly evolving CCUS domain. © 2024 The Authors

The recovery of shapes from a few numbers of their projections is very important in Computed tomography. In this paper, we propose a novel scheme based on a collocation set of Gaussian functions to represent any object by using a limited number of projections. This approach provides a continuous representation of both the implicit function and its zero level set. We show that the appropriate choice of a basis function to represent the parametric level-set leads to an optimization problem with a modest number of parameters, which exceeds many difficulties with traditional level set methods, such as regularization, re-initialization, and use of signed distance function. For the purposes of this paper, we used a dictionary of Gaussian function to provide flexibility in the representation of shapes with few terms as a basis function located at lattice points to parameterize the level set function. We propose a convex program to recover the dictionary coefficients successfully so it works stably with only four projections by overcoming the issue of local-minimum of the cost function. Finally, the performance of the proposed approach in three examples of inverse problems shows that our method compares favorably to Sparse Shape Composition (SSC), Total Variation, and Dual Problem. © 2021 ACM.

The hydrolysis of DNA serves as the foundational principle for gene engineering that enable precise gene cleavage at the molecular level. This process typically occurs in biological nucleases, which exhibit nucleobase-selective and catalytic hydrolysis capabilities rarely replicated in abiotic nanomaterials. Here, we demonstrate that molybdenum-terminated (Mo-terminated) edges of molybdenum disulfide (MoS2) possess the unique ability to abstract a proton (H+) from water molecules, thereby facilitating catalytic hydrolysis reactions that cleave the phosphodiester bonds in DNA through the action of hydroxide ions. The enhanced proton absorption at Mo-terminated edges of MoS2 significantly reduces the activation energy required for the DNA hydrolysis reaction. Furthermore, the favorable interaction between the Mo-terminated edges and thymine nucleobases promotes both charge transfer and P-O bond cleavage, enabling targeted DNA hydrolysis at 'TTTTTTT' sequences under dark conditions. This discovery underscores the potential of MoS2 as a stable, efficient nanosystem for precise genetic editing, heralding advanced applications in the field of gene engineering. © 2025 The Author(s)

This article solves time-fractional order Cauchy reaction-diffusion equations in approximation using the Optimal Homotopy Asymptotic Method (OHAM).The exact solutions and approximate third-order results achieved using OHAM are compared. It has been noted that for partial time order Cauchy equations for reaction-diffusion, OHAM findings exhibit a substantial convergence rate. Plotting the outcomes of the solutions and tabulating the relative errors are done. In order to find the mentioned solutions Mathematica has been used. © 2024 The Author(s)

The effectiveness of polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) membranes in various applications is often hampered by fouling, necessitating the exploration of modification strategies to enhance their antifouling properties. This study investigates the effect of combining cellulose nanocrystal (CNC) and graphene oxide (GO) on PVDF membranes to address this issue. Six flat sheet membranes with different compositions were fabricated using a non-solvent-induced phase separation method. The resulting membrane (M5: CNC 1 % w/w and GO 0.25 % w/w) exhibited increased surface pores, a finger-like cross-sectional structure, and higher water content. The pure water flux (PWF) in the M5 membrane increased to 37 L/m²∙h, with a humic acid (HA) rejection rate of 60 % and excellent antifouling properties (98.32 %). In conclusion, this study successfully modified PVDF membranes by combining CNC and GO, resulting in membranes with improved properties and performance. The present study provides valuable insights into composite membrane design and offers potential solutions to fouling challenges. © 2024 The Authors

Driven by advances in generative artificial intelligence (AI) techniques and algorithms, the widespread adoption of AI-generated content (AIGC) has emerged, allowing for the generation of diverse and high-quality content. Especially, the diffusion model-based AIGC technique has been widely used to generate content in a variety of modalities. However, the real-world implementation of AIGC models, particularly on resource-constrained devices such as mobile phones, introduces significant challenges related to energy consumption and privacy concerns. To further promote the realization of ubiquitous AIGC services, we propose a novel collaborative distributed diffusion-based AIGC framework. By capitalizing on collaboration among devices in wireless networks, the proposed framework facilitates the efficient execution of AIGC tasks, optimizing edge computation resource utilization. Furthermore, we examine the practical implementation of the denoising steps on mobile phones, the impact of the proposed approach on the wireless network-aided AIGC landscape, and the future opportunities associated with its real-world integration. The contributions of this paper not only offer a promising solution to the existing limitations of AIGC services but also pave the way for future research in device collaboration, resource optimization, and the seamless delivery of AIGC services across various devices. With the adoption of the damage tolerance design principle, the health monitoring system has become an integral part of the operation of engineering structures. For the system to work, a damage indicator that describes the structural integrity level should be established and monitored. The damage indicator is usually derived from structural responses. Many quantities have been proposed for damage indicator including natural frequency, mode shape, curvature, strain energy, and t-, F-, and z-statistics. In this paper, we propose a new damage indicator in the time and frequency domains derived from the Euler-Bernoulli beam theory. We evaluate the method by using data obtained from a numerical simulation of a cracked beam. The beam deformation is nonlinear due to the contact between the crack faces during vibration. The proposed damage index is estimated in the domains for various observation points on the beam. Besides, the existence of the crack is also predicted by the widely used traditional method based on the change of the natural frequency and mode shape. A comparison is made between the present method and the existing ones. We conclude the present proposal is more sensitive to detect the crack.
