Data-driven finite-time adaptive attitude tracking control for spacecraft

This paper proposes a novel data-driven finite-time adaptive control method for the spacecraft attitude tracking control problem with inertial uncertainty. Based on the dynamic regression extension technique, the disturbance unit matrix is introduced, and the parameter estimation law in the form of algebraic equations is presented, which realizes the arbitrarily small convergence of parameter estimation error. The convergence of parameter estimation errors is verified through stability analysis. Globally non-singular fast terminal sliding mode control is designed to achieve finite-time arrival of the sliding surface and convergence of the system state error. The stability analysis of the closed-loop system demonstrates the effectiveness of the proposed method. Furthermore, the effectiveness and superiority of the proposed method are verified through numerical simulations of spacecraft attitude tracking control. © 2025 COSPAR

Dynamic Sampling-Based Meta-Learning Using Multilingual Acoustic Data for Under-Resourced Speech Recognition

Under-resourced automatic speech recognition (ASR) has become an active field of research and has experienced significant progress during the past decade. However, the performance of under-resourced ASR trained by existing methods is still far inferior to high-resourced ASR for practical applications. In this paper, speech data from languages that share the most phonemes with the under-resourced language are selected as supplementary resources for meta-training based on the Model-Agnostic Meta-Learning (MAML) strategy. Besides supplementary language selection, this paper proposes a dynamic sampling method instead of the original random sampling method to select support and query sets for each task in MAML to improve meta-training performance. In this study, Taiwanese is selected as the under-resourced language, and the speech corpus of five languages, including Mandarin, English, Japanese, Cantonese, and Thai, are chosen as supplementary training data for acoustic model training. The proposed dynamic sampling approach uses phonemes, pronunciation, and speech recognition models as the basis to determine the proportion of each supplementary language to select helpful utterances for MAML. For evaluation, with the selected utterances from each supplementary language for meta-training, we obtained a Word Error Rate of 20.24% and a Syllable Error Rate of 8.35% for Taiwanese ASR, which were better than the baseline model (26.18% and 13.99%) using only the Taiwanese corpus and other methods. © 2013 IEEE.

During the COVID-19 Pandemic, Thailand utilized Thai Chana contact tracing mobile application and the paper document. The purpose of this study was to explore the perceived usability of Thai Chana contact tracing by utilizing System Usability Scale (SUS). A total of 800 Thais voluntarily answered the SUS questionnaire. The results indicated that the average SUS score was 70.388. In addition, ANOVA indicated there was an effect of the age on the perceived usability and older generations had lower SUS scores. This study could provide a basic understanding of the perceived usability of COVID-19 contact tracing. © 2024 ACM.

Recurrent Neural Networks (RNNs) are commonly used in data-driven approaches to estimate the Remaining Useful Lifetime (RUL) of power electronic devices. RNNs are preferred because their intrinsic feedback mechanisms are better suited to model time-series data. However, the impact of RNN complexity on estimation accuracy is rarely discussed in the literature. This issue is important because choosing a lower-complexity model that delivers the same or similar performance as a higher-complexity model can increase implementation efficiency. In the paper, we use three RNN models, namely, the vanilla version, LSTM (Long Short Term Memory) and GRU (Gated Recurrent Unit) to conduct RUL estimation for power electronic devices. We use two accelerated aging datasets, one dataset targeting the package failure of MOSFETs, and the other dataset targeting package failure of power diodes. Our study shows that a lower-complexity RNN does not necessarily deliver a lower performance. Similarly, a higher-complexity model does not assure a higher performance. As such, our work highlights the importance of selecting a proper neural network for RUL estimation not biased towards complex models. This is especially useful and important for implementing such RUL estimation techniques in embedded resource-constrained and speed-limited computins platforms. © 2024 IEEE.

Welding is both as art and science and its common use is the jointing of points. Some of the welding procedures used for jointing metal pipes are Tungsten Inert Gas and Gas Metal Arc welding and in common practice plastic pipes are bonded with the use of butt-fusion welding procedure. Since 1970’s conjoint analysis was used as a way of finding out what the preference of consumers. The objective of this study is to determine the combination welding attributes that were most preferred using a conjoint analysis approach. With conjoint analysis, together with, the orthogonal design the preference for welding materials and procedures were analyzed. It showed that pipe material with 29.24% was the most preferred attribute and Nondestructive test as the least preferred with 2.66%. The result of this study may be utilized in future related reviews and could be applicable in other related Mechanical systems requiring welding works. © 2024 IEEE.

The Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA), also known as Metro, spans three states and serves thousands of customers daily with transportation services. Due to the transit agency's influence on the area, as well as its size, WMATA has countless assets, thus making asset management and resource allocation challenging tasks. To develop a prioritization schema for efficient capital allocation within WMATA's facility, the project's intended goal was to perform an integrated approach with combined Multi-Criteria Decision Analysis (MCDA) methods and Mixed Knapsack. MCDA methods such as Technique for Order of Preference by Similarity to Ideal Solution (TOPSIS) were implemented in our evaluation framework to develop ranked alternatives, and for its relative simplicity in logical computations. Additionally, the project applied Mixed Knapsack to develop an optimized model to minimize budget and ensure high-priority projects are not excluded. To evaluate the robustness of the criteria's weights and scoring metrics of the assets, a sensitivity analysis was carried out within the MCDA process. The proposed deliverable, consisting of a user-friendly Power BI dashboard and Excel model, will assist WMATA's Facility Asset management Office (FAMO) in their initiative to support the capital planning decision-making process within the transit agency. The prioritization tool will also allow transparency of various elements that impact an asset's performance and its direct influence on the Quality-of-service delivery within WMATA © 2022 IEEE.

Evaluation after exercise and incidents—often called After Action Review or AAR—are important to enhance the emergency management (EM) response capability. However, evaluation support tools for event reconstruction after incidents and exercises are not yet fully available. We engaged EM stakeholders in a tabletop exercise based on snow chaos and car accidents scenarios to evaluate a fully functional prototype. The tool assists information sharing in real-time and enhances debriefing process of any EM response and exercise. Analysis of reflective discussions and an open question survey shows that the EM participants consider the features of the prototype to facilitate better learning from incidents. However, they have different attitudes concerning the adoption, management, and application of the tool in organizations. For instance, more security features are required to comply with regulations. We argue that the tool is an important first step to fill the gap on the need for "event reconstruction-based evaluation." © 2023 Information systems for Crisis Response and management, ISCRAM. This paper proposes a method to estimate the posture of an athlete moving on a vast field in a sporting event using a pan-tilt-zoom camera. In order to estimate the posture of an athlete on a sports field from a dynamic video sequence, our method extracts image features to search correspondence points among successive frames and computes the homography transformation matrix that compensates for changes the camera parameters (e.g., angle of view and posture). The effectiveness of this method is qualitatively verified using MLB TV broadcast video. The accuracy and error factors are also quantitatively verified by CG simulation. Distribution plays a crucial role in business processes, and an efficient distribution system is necessary to minimize costs. Many companies, including those in the gas industry, are developing distribution models to reduce costs and maximize profits. Industrial gases are the main component of various sectors, such as the health industry, consumer goods, and more. Researchers have developed a model of Flexible Periodic Vehicle Routing Problem (FPVRP) for gas cylinder distribution, which considers profitability. The purpose of this model is to maximize profitability by considering storage costs, travel costs, and fixed costs. To achieve this, researchers have developed scheduling and routing methods by combining several models, such as the FPVRP, Inventory Routing Problem (IRP), Vehicle Routing Problem Simultaneous Delivery and Pickup (VRPSDP), and Vehicle Routing Problem with Profits (VRPPs). The model uses various models, such as the Visit Frequency Optimization Procedure (VFOP), which considers visit frequency and day combinations as decision variables, Nearest Neighbor, 2-opt Swap, and Taboo Search. The researchers have used Visual Basic Application (VBA) in Microsoft Excel to develop computerized models. The experiment results have shown that the proposed gas cylinder distribution model can provide maximum profit by reducing the costs of the entire system. © 2024 IEEE.
