We describe an undergraduate engineering project to give students hands-on experience and integrate diverse knowledge and skills in robotics, thermal imaging, rapid prototyping, machine learning and artificial intelligence, and plastics engineering, and materials testing. A robot is programmed for ultrasonic welding of 3D-printed or laser-machined plastic parts or soldering of components to printed circuit boards. The process is monitored with a thermal camera, and the infrared images and video are analyzed by machine learning and artificial intelligence algorithms for process optimization, based on criteria tensile strength and pressure leak tests. A pre-trained machine learning model can monitor and analyze the thermal joining processes. © 2023 by ASME.

Macroergonomics aims to create entirely "harmonious" work systems that increase many areas of organisational efficiency and effectiveness. In macroergonomics, all work system components must collaborate to ensure safety. As a result, while the previous SLR only examined validity and reliability, a study of measurement variables is required to create an SCMM measuring instrument utilising a macroergonomic method. This project will conduct a systematic literature review (SLR) of SCMM publishing papers during the last 22 years (2001–2023). This SLR tries to classify the variables used in SCMM measurement into sociotechnical (macroergonomic) work subsystems, study fields, models, and measurement methods. This paper applied the SLR methodology to 53 SCMM articles in the last two decades, from 2001 to 2023. Data was collected by searching for published articles in Scopus, Google Scholar and Semantic Scholar, UK. Health and Safety Executive (HSE), ProQuest and Occupational Safety and Health Resource based on article title, abstract and keywords. Filtering was done by using keywords and evaluating the content's suitability by examining the article’s abstract and overall content (Output 53 articles). The results found valuable gaps in the use of the five sociotechnical work subsystems in measuring performance. The SLR found 18 organisation variables, 3 job and task variables, 7 human variables, 5 environmental variables and 7 tools and technological variables. The results indicate that the primary research areas in SCMM are health care and oil and gas, with ten publications. Besides, the SLR results indicated that the Hudson Model was the most utilised method, and the most used method was a questionnaire. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2025.

Nanning Jinhu square metro station is the transfer station of Nanning metro Line 1 and Line 3. Its passenger flow transfer organization efficiency greatly affects the operation efficiency of the urban rail transit system. This paper collects the station operation data and analyzes the transfer evaluation parameters, builds the station simulation model using the Anylogic software, sets the relevant scenarios to conduct the operation simulation analysis of the station, looks for the flow bottleneck of the passenger flow in the transfer organization, and takes measures such as iron fence diversion to optimize the passenger flow transfer organization, so as to improve the passenger flow transfer efficiency on the basis of reducing the passenger flow congestion. The paper further determines the effectiveness of the optimization measures by comparing the operation results of the simulation model before and after the optimization, and provides support for the design of transfer facilities and the formulation of operation strategies at the transfer station. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2023.

This study presents a deep learning model to predict phlebitis in patients with peripheral intravenous catheter (PIVC) insertions. Leveraging electronic health record data from 27,532 admissions and 70,293 PIVC events at a hospital in Seoul, South Korea, the study involved analyzing patient demographics, PIVC-specific features, and drug-related information. The developed deep learning model was benchmarked against various machine learning models, demonstrating superior performance with an accuracy of 0.93 and an AUC of 0.89. This highlights its potential as an effective tool for early detection of phlebitis, promising enhanced patient outcomes and healthcare efficiency. © 2024 The Authors.

Our new work culture relies heavily on online meetings and computer mediated communication (CMC). However, making an online meeting engaging while keeping communication productive is a major challenge. We collected quantitative data from the user engagement scale (UES) and qualitative data from semi-structured interviews to investigate how user engagement differed. Using the gamified web-conferencing platform Gather, we compared four communication channels: (1) audio-only, (2) audio and video (no avatar), (3) audio and avatar (no video), and (4) audio and video and avatar. We began qualitative data analysis using reflexive thematic analysis. Although the UES results did not reveal significant differences, the preliminary results from the thematic analysis such as people prefer communication platforms designed for specific use cases because video makes them feel more self-conscious, while avatars make them feel more represented. Lastly, we provide a work-in-progress applied definition of user engagement in communication channels with their perspective on individual engagement constructs. © 2023 ACM.

The aim of this research is to explore and evaluate the use of federated learning to tackle issues related to data privacy, data scarcity, data security, and anomaly detection in Industry 4.0 manufacturing settings and the transition towards industry 5.0. SCOPUS database has been used to systematically review existing literature on applying federated learning in Industry 4.0 manufacturing contexts. The identified literature is analyzed qualitatively using VOS viewer software and Microsoft Excel. Firstly, a bibliometric study following the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) guidelines has been undertaken to provide insights into the progress of research on this topic. This analysis encompasses the examination of co-authorship patterns among countries as well as the analysis of keyword co-occurrence. Fur-thermore, a comprehensive analysis of the chosen articles (n=33) examines the specific research inquiries that will guide future research endeavors to bridge the existing gaps in knowledge and facilitate the implementation of federated learning in the context of Industry 4.0 manufacturing. The findings of this research demonstrate that the utilization of federated learning presents promising solutions for addressing challenges related to data isolation, data privacy, and efficient processing in the context of Industry 4.0 manufacturing. Furthermore, there is a growing number of emerging models that exhibit improved performance in these areas, with the aim of facilitating the implementation of Industry 5.0 in the manufacturing sector. © 2023 IEEE.

The Philippines is a country prone to natural disasters, such as typhoons. The present study aimed to investigate the response efficacy of the Filipino population under Typhoon Conson 2021, also known as Typhoon Jolina. A stepwise multiple linear regression was utilized to assess a variety of latent variables in the Protection Motivation Theory, such as perceived severity, self-efficacy, response efficacy, and response cost, along with an additional latent variable, geographical perspective. A sum of 388 participants voluntarily participated in a self-administered survey that consisted of 50 questions. It was found that the independent variables, such as geographical perspective, perceived severity, and self-efficacy were proven to have predictive ability on the dependent variable, response efficacy. The findings of this study could serve as a valuable guideline for planners and future researchers seeking to improve preparedness and response efficacy for typhoons. Furthermore, this study can also be employed by local government authorities to establish policies and strategies aimed at natural disaster risk protection. © 2023 IEEE.

Diphtheria is an infectious disease that affects the upper respiratory system and throat, arising suddenly and caused by Corynebacterium diphtheriae. The symptoms of diphtheria such as fever, swollen neck and slimy nose are often interpreted as influenza or laryngitis. Diphtheria is a contagious and deadly disease that requires specialized and rapid treatment and care. In today's technological era, it can be overcome with a system that can diagnose diphtheria like a doctor's diagnosis ability commonly called an expert system. This study describes the application of an expert system to diagnose diphtheria disease. The research method used is the web-based Expert System Development Life Cycle (ESDLC). The method used to process input values is Forward Chaining. Fuzzy Tsukamoto to calculate the input value from the user. The research has been tested with Blackbox testing showing the results that the expert system works well and accuracy testing with 92% results. The results show effectiveness with a satisfactory level of accuracy in detecting diphtheria disease. This research contributes to the development of expert systems in the health sector with a focus on diagnosing diphtheria disease using a fuzzy logic approach. © 2023 IEEE.

In the modern era, an increasing number of diseases are emerging because of human lifestyle choices and bacterial transmission. Gastritis, characterized by inflammation in the stomach lining leading to frequent abdominal pain, is one such ailment. Recognizing the significance of addressing these health issues, there is a need for an expert system application specifically designed for diagnosing gastritis. The primary objective is to disseminate information to the public regarding the early symptoms of gastritis, promoting awareness from a young age. The research method used is the web-based Expert System Development Life Cycle (ESDLC). The diagnostic process employs the Certainty Factor (CF) method to ensure accurate results. By utilizing symptom CF values chosen by the user, the Certainty Factor approach facilitates a diagnosis based on calculations established by medical specialists. The research culminates in the development of an expert system application capable of accurately diagnosing the disease Android based. The accuracy rates for the first, second, and third test cases are reported as 98.848%, 99.8464%, and 99.99115264%, respectively. System testing, conducted through black-box testing, validates the application's functionality, demonstrating a 100% success rate for each component. © 2023 IEEE.
