This work presents ReSync, a Riemannian subgradient-based algorithm for solving the robust rotation synchronization problem, which arises in various engineering applications. ReSync solves a least-unsquared minimization formulation over the rotation group, which is nonsmooth and nonconvex, and aims at recovering the underlying rotations directly. We provide strong theoretical guarantees for ReSync under the random corruption setting. Specifically, we first show that the initialization procedure of ReSync yields a proper initial point that lies in a local region around the ground-truth rotations. We next establish the weak sharpness property of the aforementioned formulation and then utilize this property to derive the local linear convergence of ReSync to the ground-truth rotations. By combining these guarantees, we conclude that ReSync converges linearly to the ground-truth rotations under appropriate conditions. Robust Quantized Consensus of Multi-agent systems Under Disturbance and DoS Attacks

External disturbance and denial-of-service (DoS) attacks pose significant challenges to the quantized control of multi-agent systems (MAS). Most of the existing quantized control strategies primarily focus on the scaling factors design and auxiliary system construction without external disturbance. Note that, these strategies require highly accurate system model and will lead to the saturation of the quantizer if there exists external disturbance. To overcome the above shortcomings, a new scaling function is developed in this paper by incorporating robustness factors into the scaling function design, significantly enhancing the robustness of the quantization mechanism. Based on this, a robust quantized control strategy is designed to achieve the bounded consensus of linear MAS in the presence of disturbance and DoS attacks, where the trade-off among quantization level, consensus performance, and resilience to DoS attacks is explored. Besides, the robust design framework shows significant flexibility and efficiency in addressing the resilient control of nonlinear MAS subject to DoS attacks. Numerical simulations are provided to validate the theoretical results. © 2014 IEEE.

This review paper presents a comprehensive and systematic analysis of the performance improvements achieved by incorporating waste vegetable oil (WVO) into asphalt binders. The study encompasses a thorough examination of various factors, including rheological characteristics, durability, environmental impacts, and economic viability. The results demonstrate that the utilization of WVO-modified asphalt binders offers a promising solution for environmentally friendly pavement construction practices. These binders exhibit enhanced performance qualities, reduced environmental effects, and the potential for cost savings. Traffic congestion poses significant challenges to modern cities, leading to increased energy use, pollution, and long commute times. Optimizing public transit systems and encouraging their use is an effective solution. However, public transit integrates various modes like subways, buses, and shared bikes, requiring transfers between modes. Therefore, understanding the relationships between modes and accurately predicting passenger flows for each mode is crucial. Accurate predictions enable better capacity allocation, scheduling, and seamless transfers between modes, enhancing accessibility and convenience to attract more riders. Existing multi-modal prediction methods typically focus on station-to-region or region-to-region flows, overlooking station-to-station predictions that can better capture inter-modal relationships and provide fine-grained insights for traffic management. This study proposes a multi-modal framework for MRT and YouBike data that employs a spatial-temporal module to effectively model the spatiotemporal dependencies in the data. Evaluations on real-world datasets demonstrate the framework outperforms benchmark methods. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2025.

Federated learning (FL) has emerged as a leading approach for decentralized model training, preserving data privacy by exchanging only model parameters. However, recent studies have exposed vulnerabilities, revealing that attackers can reconstruct private data from shared model parameters, compromising user privacy. To address this, various defense methods have been proposed, with gradient perturbation being a lightweight yet effective strategy. However, it often incurs a trade-off with model performance. In this paper, we introduce a lightweight defense mechanism tailored for Federated Stochastic Gradient Descent (FedSGD). Our method leverages maximum gradient values to gauge noise scale, while also preserving and compensating for previous noise iterations to mitigate performance impacts. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2025.

This research evaluates the effectiveness of Mean-Variance (MV) and Safety-First (SF) portfolio selection strategies for high-volume/high-value traded stocks on the Philippine Stock Exchange (PSE). Analyzing data from 288 stocks over 7,670 trading days (30 years), we estimated stock returns, assigned probability weights, and conducted optimization models. The results show that the Mean-Variance (MV0.5) strategy achieved the best balance between risk and return, boasting the highest mean and cumulative returns with moderate volatility. The Safety-First (SF) strategy, however, yielded negative cumulative returns, indicating potential issues. The Market strategy had the lowest mean return but also the least risk, appealing to risk-averse investors. The Portfolio Mean-Variance (PMV) strategy provided a reasonable balance of returns and risk. Statistical analysis revealed that only the MV0.5 strategy outperformed market returns. These findings offer crucial insights into risk assessment and portfolio management for investors evaluating these strategies against market performance. © 2024 IEEE.

An Empirical Investigation of the Antecedents and Consequences of Integration Team Ambidexterity in Multiteam systems-Based Projects

Firms are increasingly launching large-scale complex projects with the work form of multiteam systems (MTSs) (MTSs-based projects), which requires the management team to be ambidextrous - aligned efficiently with existing demands, whilst being adaptive to the changing environment. However, limited studies have focused on the development of ambidexterity as well as its influences on the success in MTSs-based projects. To address this research gap, this study investigates the antecedents and consequences of ambidexterity of integration teams in MTSs-based projects, using a sequential mixed-method design. A qualitative study via interviews with industrial experts first identified four crucial antecedents of integration team ambidexterity, i.e., shared cognition, information exchange, monitoring, and mutual support. Then, leveraging an emergent team phenomena perspective, we developed a research model and proposed relevant hypotheses. A quantitative study, using multiwave and multisource data collected from 178 MTSs-based enterprise systems implementation projects, was adopted to validate our proposed model. The findings reveal the distinct effects of the four antecedents on integration team alignment and adaptation. In addition, both integration team alignment and adaptation positively influence MTSs-based project effectiveness, while only integration team adaptation facilitates the project team to deal with a high level of requirements instability. © 1988-2012 IEEE.

Construction teams are responsible for building complex projects within the allotted budget, time and expected quality. Thus, team members must be able to work with each other to avoid any complications during the construction process. As such, team supervisors must select from a pool of applicants or from their current roster of workers, which would be composed of different personalities and capabilities. This paper aims to identify the preferences of team supervisors when building up their team using conjoin analysis. The study found out that supervisors would like to have workers that respects and values their work and can work harmoniously with others. This study is beneficial for the human resource department of construction companies when recruiting workers, for the management when trying to develop their current personnel and for the workers who are trying to improve themselves. © 2024 ACM.

The run length limited de Bruijn (RLLdB) sequences have been studied recently owing to their application in communication systems. In each RLLdB sequence, all length-k substrings are distinct and each substring is a run length limited sequence, where there are at most s consecutive symbol 0's. In previous work, the maximal length RLLdB sequence was designed only for the case s = *** this work, we propose to study a more generalised problem of constrained de Bruijn sequence, called weight bounded run length limited de Bruijn (WRdB) sequence. In each WRdB sequence, all length-k substrings are distinct and each length-k substring satisfies both constraints: the number of consecutive symbol 0's is at most s, and the number of symbol 1's is at least l. We aim to design a WRdB sequence with maximal length in all ***, we build a constrained de Bruijn graph that represents a WRdB sequence and use some properties of the graph to show an upper bound on the maximal length of the sequence. Next, using Lyndon words, we present a construction of a WRdB sequence. Finally, we compute the length of the constructed WRdB sequence and show that it has the maximal length. © 2023 IEEE.
