The technology deployment in smart e-tourism brings high potential in terms of customer data, events, reservations, and others. It acts as an effective and personalized guide to aid travelers. There is an increasing variety of smart e-tourism apps with multiple categories and criteria, but in terms of decision making, this presents a multicriteria complex problem to determine the best app from a group of available options with high criteria subjectivity. Literature reviews have evaluated and modeled the existing smart e-tourism apps alternatives, but informational uncertainty remains. The fuzzy sets and Multi-Attribute Decision Analysis (MADA) were used to handle the subjectivity issue. However, this process includes levels of uncertainty, which affects the decisions made and still an open issues. Spherical fuzzy rough sets (SFRSs) environment are useful in this situation for resolving fuzziness and ambiguity. This paper proposed a decision modeling approach for smart E-Tourism data management applications based on SFRSs environment. For methodology: firstly, a decision matrix is adopted for 5 different categories of Smart E-tourism's system applications on the basis of the integrated 12 evaluation criteria. Secondly, a new formulation and development formulating a new extension of FWZIC, called a Spherical Fuzzy Rough-Weighted Zero-Inconsistency (SFR-WZIC), for weighting the smart key concept attributes involved in modeling smart e-tourism, whereas a new formulation and development for a new extension of FDOSM, called a Spherical Fuzzy Rough Decision by Opinion Score Method (SFR-DOSM), for modeling the applications of smart e-tourism per each e-tourism category;then, the new developments are integrated. The proposed methods were evaluated using systematic ranking and sensitivity analysis. © 2023 Elsevier B.V.

Realistic mobility integration in agent-based model for targeted public health strategies

The effectiveness of non-pharmaceutical interventions (NPIs) like social distancing (SD) and lockdowns significantly varies based on regional demographics and mobility patterns. Traditional epidemiological models often do not fully capture mobility behaviors, leading to inaccurate assessments of disease spread and intervention impacts. To address these limitations, we present a high-fidelity agent-based model (ABM) integrating detailed individual-level mobility data derived from real-world communication records. This model employs population synthesis (PS) to generate realistic demographic agents and simulates their daily mobility, including commuting, social interactions, and home-return activities. Our framework explicitly captures epidemiological states such as pre-symptomatic, asymptomatic, and quarantined conditions, allowing accurate simulation of spatial–temporal transmission dynamics. We applied this model to the second COVID-19 wave in Seoul, validated it against empirical data and performed scenario-based analyses to evaluate various NPIs. The results indicated that combined lockdown and SD measures effectively suppressed infection peaks, but isolated lockdowns without SD provided only temporary and limited containment. Our study underscores the critical importance of detailed mobility data in pandemic modeling, demonstrating the model’s potential to serve as a foundational tool that can be extended to support policymakers in designing balanced interventions that navigate trade-offs between public health outcomes and socioeconomic impacts.

Future human spaceflight beyond low-Earth orbit will bring substantial changes and new requirements to the development of fully sustainable, healthy indoor human environments across a range of gravitational, radiative, and thermal conditions. One key aspect is understanding (and potentially leveraging) microorganisms that must coexist with humans, plants, and animals in enclosed habitats (their microbiota or microbiomes). Modern, genome-resolved microbiome science provides an opportunity to better understand how we can utilize microbes to optimize space missions and protect human health and well-being long-term. Microorganisms will be critical to mission success due to their direct or indirect interactions with 1) humans, 2) other living systems (e.g., plant and animal life as a food source and for experimentation), and 3) the built environment. For example, the human gut microbiome is a complex community that has important implications for human health and performance that include mental health, nutrition intake, and immune system function. The health of plant microbiomes is also critical for sustainable, dependable, and nutritious food production. Humans, plants, and other living systems (e.g., animals used in experimentation) will also shed microbes into the built environment, which may impact human exposure, plant health, system integrity, and planetary protection from microbial contamination in both forward and reverse directions. Microbes from all three systems will interact, resulting in potentially important 'non-linear' system implications that must be understood for the overall long-term sustainability of hardware, crew, and other living systems. This study explores renewable energy scaling in energy communities and transmission expansion planning (TEP). The increasing share of renewables creates challenges in transmitting wind and solar power from remote areas to cities. These challenges necessitate the modernization of conventional transmission systems. Energy communities, which focus on decentralized production and consumption, have the potential to mitigate these challenges by optimizing local energy flows. The primary objective of this study is to identify optimal strategies for the integration of renewable energy in energy communities and to assess the expansion of transmission infrastructure required to support this integration. A systematic literature review was conducted, encompassing articles published between 2009 and 2024 in this study. The review was based on searches across leading academic databases, including SCOPUS, ELSEVIER Science Direct, SpringerLink, and Google Scholar. A total of 1509 studies were initially identified, of which 266 articles were selected for detailed analysis. The findings indicate that energy communities play a pivotal role in facilitating the integration of renewable energy and enhancing grid resilience. However, the results also highlight that the efficiency of this integration can be significantly improved through advanced planning methodologies and supportive regulatory frameworks. While energy communities reduce the need for long-distance transmission through local generation, the expansion of transmission infrastructure remains essential during periods of high demand or low local generation. These results provide valuable insights into the development of future energy infrastructure policies and underscore the need for a more flexible and decentralized approach to transmission network expansion.

This paper presents the current state of the conception of a magnetic drive micropump, different necessary constructive-technological and functional considerations, 3D modeling using parametric design, main geometric elements of the gears with helical teeth, specific calculations needed to determine the forces loads on the gears and a printed prototype of its model. Researches conducted from an actual micropump version in use led us to the design of an innovative variant, represented by a constructive solution with a driving gear and two driven gears. This ensures the possibility of displacing a fluid mixed of two compatible fluids, but also balancing the loads that appear in the gear mesh during the micropump's operation. This constructive solution is conceived for the size reduction of the pumping installation, for a good homogenization of the two mixed fluids, for an increased reliability of the micropump by reducing wear of moving components in contact, for a reduced noise and vibration. © 2019 Trans Tech Publications Ltd, Switzerland.

In this work, we study two types of constraints on two-dimensional binary arrays. In particular, given p, ǫ > 0, we study • The p-bounded constraint: a binary vector of size m is said to be p-bounded if its weight is at most pm, • The ǫ-balanced constraint: a binary vector of size m is said to be ǫ-balanced if its weight is within (1/2 − ǫ)m, (1/2 + ǫ)m. Such constraints are crucial in several data storage systems, those regard the information data as two-dimensional (2D) instead of one-dimensional (1D), such as the crossbar resistive memory arrays and the holographic data storage. In this work, efficient encoding/decoding algorithms are presented for binary arrays so that the weight constraint (either p-bounded constraint or ǫ-balanced constraint) is enforced over every row and every column, regarded as 2D row-column (RC) constrained codes;or over every subarray, regarded as 2D subarray constrained codes. While low-complexity designs have been proposed in the literature, mostly focusing on 2D RC constrained codes where p = 1/2 and ǫ = 0, this work provides efficient coding methods that work for both 2D RC constrained codes and 2D subarray constrained codes, and more importantly, the methods are applicable for arbitrary values of p and ǫ. Furthermore, for certain values of p and ǫ, we show that, for sufficiently large array size, there exists linear-time encoding/decoding algorithm that incurs at most one redundant bit. Algorithmic Stability of Heavy-Tailed Stochastic Gradient Descent on Least Squares

Recent studies have shown that heavy tails can emerge in stochastic optimization and that the heaviness of the tails have links to the generalization error. While these studies have shed light on interesting aspects of the generalization behavior in modern settings, they relied on strong topological and statistical regularity assumptions, which are hard to verify in practice. Furthermore, it has been empirically illustrated that the relation between heavy tails and generalization might not always be monotonic in practice, contrary to the conclusions of existing theory. In this study, we establish novel links between the tail behavior and generalization properties of stochastic gradient descent (SGD), through the lens of algorithmic stability. We consider a quadratic optimization problem and use a heavy-tailed stochastic differential equation (and its Euler discretization) as a proxy for modeling the heavy-tailed behavior emerging in SGD. We then prove uniform stability bounds, which reveal the following outcomes: (i) Without making any exotic assumptions, we show that SGD will not be stable if the stability is measured with the squared-loss x 7→ x2, whereas it in turn becomes stable if the stability is instead measured with a surrogate loss x 7→ |x|p with some p © 2022, CC0.

This study proposes, through weighted averages and ordered weighted averaging operators, a new aggregation system for the investigation of average gases emissions. We present the ordered weighted averaging operators gases emissions, the induced ordered weighted averaging operators gases emissions, the weighted ordered weighted averaging operators gases emissions and the induced probabilistic weighted ordered weighted averaging operators gases emissions. These operators represent a new way of analyzing the average gases emissions of different variables like countries or regions. The work presents further generalizations by using generalized and quasi-arithmetic means. Numerical study of cavitating flow in orifices and its effect on spray characteristics

The bubbly flow regime inside orifices has significant effects on several applications, and studying its trend along an orifice could be helpful in identifying the flow mechanism in various situations. The flow regime inside an orifice depends on the situation which has been specified for the orifice. Orifice geometry has a considerable effect on bubbly flow in injectors. Meanwhile, spray characteristics are influenced by the fuel flow inside an orifice, which has strong effects on the mixture of fuel-air. In this study, spray characteristics are studied for different values of the orifice angle. The cavitation phenomenon which occurs inside an orifice varies in intensity and patterns at different angles of the orifice and consequently has diverse effects on spray characteristics. The governing equations are solved by the SIMPLE algorithm. The spray flow is modeled by the discrete droplet method（DDM）, the droplet breakup is modeled by the WAVE model, and the primary breakup is modeled by the DIESEL BREAK UP model. In order to generate cavitation phenomenon inside orifices and investigate its effect on spray characteristics, the angle of orifice with respect to the injector body is varied and the problem is studied for different angles of orifice.

An Augmented Lagrangian Approach to Conically Constrained Non-monotone Variational Inequality Problems

In this paper we consider a non-monotone (mixed) variational inequality model with (nonlinear) convex conic constraints. Through developing an equivalent Lagrangian function-like primal-dual saddle-point system for the VI model in question, we introduce an augmented Lagrangian primal-dual method, to be called ALAVI in the current paper, for solving a general constrained VI model. Under an assumption, to be called the primal-dual variational coherence condition in the paper, we prove the convergence of ALAVI. Next, we show that many existing generalized monotonicity properties are sufficient—though by no means necessary—to imply the above mentioned coherence condition, thus are sufficient to ensure convergence of ALAVI. Under that assumption, we further show that ALAVI has in fact an o(1/√k) global rate of convergence where k is the iteration count. By introducing a new gap function, this rate further improves to be O(1/k) if the mapping is monotone. Finally, we show that under a metric subregularity condition, even if the VI model may be non-monotone the local convergence rate of ALAVI improves to be linear. Numerical experiments on some randomly generated highly nonlinear and non-monotone VI problems show practical efficacy of the newly proposed method. Copyright © 2023, The Authors.
