Significant progress has been made in both 2D and 3D content creation recently. In order to integrate the advantages of both, we present Build-it-here, a novel 3D generation method for open vocabulary furniture creation and placing inside empty rooms. By modulating textual input, we achieve few-shot prompting large language models for layout planning. The output room layout is represented by bounding boxes in the empty house. Upon sampling camera view around bounding-box for rendering, we perform text-guided inpainting on masked 2D images. The inpainted object is then reconstructed in 3D and back projected to the room. Qualitative experiments have demonstrated that our method not only achieved open vocabulary diversity but also ensuring the rationality of placements. The scenes generated through this method is photo-realistic and ready for applications like game industry asset usage.

This study investigated the evolution of water content and carbonation in OPC cement paste under low, intermediate, and high relative humidity (RH) conditions, emphasizing the role of water in accelerated carbonation and microstructural modifications. Under high RH, the carbonation suppressed after 28 days owing to calcium ion accumulation at the surface, precipitating as calcite. This calcite formation leads to a dense calcium carbonate layer, reducing the gas–liquid interfacial area for CO₂ dissolution and blocking further water evaporation and carbonation process. Low RH conditions cause the agglomeration of calcium silicate aluminate hydrate (C–(A)–S–H), increasing empty space in the microstructure. This facilitates CO₂ penetration but limits CH carbonation due to insufficient water availability. These findings highlight the significance of water distribution and microstructural evolution in CO₂ sequestration, revealing that RH critically influences the progress of carbonation by altering the pore structure and subsequent water availability in cementitious materials. © 2025 The Authors

Federated learning (FL) has received explosive research attention in that it enables multiple clients to collaboratively train a global model without sharing raw data in between, thereby facilitating the protection of data privacy. Typically, FL can converge well after a couple of communication rounds, but its convergence is vulnerable to the model poisoning attacks induced by fake clients. Existing works have been devoted to designing various post-processing techniques to alleviate the adverse effects of the model poisoning attacks, they, however, fail to accurately trim off the local models of fake clients while keeping those of benign clients intact during model averaging. In this paper, we investigate the problem of model poisoning attacks in federated learning (FL). To cope with this problem, we design the federated adaptive trimmed mean (FedATM) algorithm, where the clients are sorted in accordance with the distances between local models, and a distance-based threshold is designed to detect the presence of fake clients, thereby preventing the fake local models from destroying the accuracy of model averaging. Simulation results show that the proposed FedATM algorithm is robust to model poisoning attacks as compared to several comparison schemes under various data heterogeneities.

Federated learning (FL) enables edge devices (EDs) to collaboratively train a single machine learning (ML) model maintained by an edge server (ES) without sharing their raw data contents, thereby facilitating distributed ML while protecting data privacy. In fact, FL can be implemented in wireless environments by means of the over-the-air (OTA) computation, which takes advantage of the waveform-superposition property of wireless signals to receive local gradients from EDs without the needs of increased bandwidth. Despite the existing works devoted to power control and client selection in OTA-FL systems, they mostly neglect how to construct cohorts (i.e., a subset of EDs that have similar channel coefficients) to elevate the quality of the aggregated local gradients. In this paper, we investigate the problem of gradient aggregation and recovery in OTA-FL systems. To cope with this problem, we propose the cohort-based power scaling and gradient recovery (CRAIC) algorithm, where we first construct cohorts based on uplink channel coefficients, and then we adjust the transmit powers of EDs and recover the aggregated local gradients in a cohort basis. Simulation results show that our proposed solution outperforms several comparison schemes, and we further evaluate how it performs under various parameter settings.

Photovoltaic (PV) panels have emerged as a transformative technology for decarbonizing electricity consumption and mitigating climate change. However, to fully analyze the potential of PVs in achieving sustainable energy goals, careful consideration of the life cycle including the embodied impact is needed. While a diverse range of PV module types can be found on the market, structured life cycle data is missing that would enable the analysis and comparison of various technology configurations. The goal of this paper is to provide comprehensive, and harmonized data on the environmental impact of different PV systems captured in a high-resolution database. It includes the selection of cell technology and related components, as well as the location of production and deployment. In addition, a web-based configurator is offered, enabling a quick estimation of the environmental impact associated with user-customized panels. Using this framework, we demonstrate that the Global Warming Potential of a PV panel can range anywhere between 10 – 380 kgCO2eq/sqm. The results of this study can therefore support stakeholders in estimating the embodied impact of their PV systems with a higher level of detail, leading to more informed and environmentally conscious decisions during the design and implementation of solar photovoltaic projects. © 2024, The Authors. An Efficient Collaborative Task Offloading Approach Based on Multi-Objective Algorithm in MEC-Assisted Vehicular Networks

Mobile edge computing assisting vehicular networks to achieve collaborative computing is a significant research area, as it can effectively expand the on-board computational resources, thereby improving the responsiveness of vehicular applications and reducing energy consumption. However, the existing task offloading schemes still have various gaps and face challenges that should be addressed because task offloading problems are usually multi-objective optimization problems (MOOP) and NP-hard problems. In this respect, we formulate a new multi-objective model for vehicle-centered task offloading tacking into account the queuing and computing processes of tasks. The minimization of the average delay time, average energy consumption, and average payment cost for each vehicle is defined as a MOOP. We propose an efficient collaborative offloading approach based on task triage strategy and multi-objective optimization to address the model. Specifically, this approach can be decomposed into two stages. First, a task triage strategy is developed based on a comprehensive analysis of task urgency and task criticality to make offloading decisions for triaged tasks with extreme characteristics. Then, we propose a novel multi-objective optimization framework for the MOOP. Finally, we develop a multi-objective hybrid genetic algorithm that integrates the associative learning immediate memory strategy and genetic operations to solve the MOOP. Extensive experiments and performance evaluations based on real-world traces of taxis demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed approach. The results indicate that the approach outperforms six other well-known multi-objective algorithms in solving the MOOP. © 1967-2012 IEEE.

This paper presents a coupled analysis method for the mean second-order loads of a floating structure, which is suitable for offshore wind energy sources exploitation. The analysis method incorporates properly, the solutions of the diffraction, and motion-dependent radiation problems around the floating structure along with the aerodynamics of the Wind Turbine. The floating structure encompasses an array of five hydrodynamically interacting vertical cylinders, moored through tensioned tethers as a TLP platform supporting a 10 MW Wind Turbine. Details on the modelling of the system are discussed and numerical results are obtained through the developed solution in the frequency domain. The wave loads on the floater are approximated using matched axisymmetric eigenfunction expansions. The objective of the analysis is to investigate which sea states yield the largest mean second order loads due to operating and extreme wave conditions based on wave hindcasts near Kasos Island, in the Mediterranean Sea. © 2021 Taylor & Francis Group, London.

Interferometric SAR time series analysis using multilooked interferograms has measured ground deformation with high accuracy over large areas, but is known to be contaminated by a systematic bias when using only short-term interferograms. This bias, also referred to as a "fading signal", has been investigated using the abundant time series data from Sentinel-1 C-band SAR, and soil moisture and biomass changes have been suggested as two possible causes for the observed bias. Several correction methods have been proposed to mitigate the phase bias, assuming a periodic observation strategy. The phase bias is supposed to increase with the wavelength, but the bias in ALOS-2 L-band SAR has not been investigated in detail because the data distribution policy restricts its users. In addition, these correction methods are not suitable for the infrequently observed data such as ALOS-2. In this paper, we investigated the systematic bias in ALOS-2 multilooked interferograms with respect to various interferometric pairs. We also corrected the phase bias using the noise-filtering technique. The bias in ALOS-2 multilooked interferograms showed >3 mm/year with an average temporal baseline of 144 days, which is equivalent to that of Sentinel-1 with the temporal baseline of 78 days. That is, the bias effect toward the temporal baseline was larger in ALOS-2 than in Sentinel-1. The noise-filtering technique could mitigate the bias with less pairs regardless of land-use.

The Sortie Generation Rate (SGR) which refers to the number of sorties that can be generated per unit time, is a key indicator for evaluating the ability of an airbase. However, an aircraft carrier has many constraints compared to a land-based airbase, such as spatial and environmental constraints, making it difficult to apply existing land-based research to analyze aircraft carrier operations. On the other hand, the Sortie Generation Process (SGP) on an aircraft carrier is similar to a logistics/production system in that sorties are generated through aircraft. Therefore, this study proposes a framework for analyzing the SGP on an aircraft carrier using discrete event simulation and defines the classes that make up the simulation. In addition, SGP analysis simulations were implemented using the proposed framework and several experiments were performed to demonstrate the feasibility of applying the proposed framework in practice. © 2023 IEEE.

The aim of this paper is to examine the effect of different mooring systems on the efficiency of an Oscillating Water Column (OWC) device. The method of ‘matched’ eigenfunction expansions for the velocity potential in the fluid domain surrounding the device is used to provide the necessary solution to the diffraction problem;the pressure– and the motion– radiation problems. Furthermore, considering the coupled dynamical model for the present analysis, i.e. floater and mooring system, the characteristics of several examined mooring systems are combined with the hydrodynamics of the OWC and the exciting wave loads to set up the coupled motion equations in the frequency domain. Theoretical numerical results concerning the motion response analysis of a moored OWC and the associated absorbed wave power obtained through the developed solution method in the frequency domain are presented covering different types of mooring systems and floater’s geometrical characteristics, aiming to an optimum arrangement for wave energy maximization. © 2021 Taylor & Francis Group, London.
