Robots for automated assembly are being progressively implemented in the aerospace manufacturing sector. The dim and complex internal structure of the aircrafts significantly complicates the operation of robotic arms through visual system. This paper proposes an assembly strategy based on force-feedback control for fuel probe installation inside the aircraft wings, enabling autonomous assembly of tubular objects under translational and rotational misalignments. Furthermore, the Bees Algorithm (BA) is employed in a simulation environment to optimise the parameters of this control strategy. The results demonstrate that BA can effectively decrease the overall installation time while simultaneously proving the effectiveness of this method and its potential applicability in aerospace manufacturing.

Medium-voltage distribution networks (6–10 kV in Russia) are the largest and at the same time the most problematic link in the power supply system of consumers. Improving the reliability of medium-voltage overhead distribution networks is still an urgent task. The task of improving the reliability of networks is directly related to the improvement of algorithms and devices for single-phase earth fault (SPEF) location. Researches of Ivanovo State Power engineering University (ISPEU) and an industrial partner developed automated power control and metering station (APCMS) based on digital measurement voltage and current transformers (DCVT). APCMS contains the function of detecting a damaged section (branch) of a 6–10 kV overhead power transmission line (OTL). In the installed APCMS sample the function works in the test mode, so additional studies of DCVT and APCMS for the tasks of fault location are relevant. The article presents the methodology for determining the faulted section in case of SPEF, considers the features of application of 6–10 kV DCVT and APCMS for determining the faulted section, and also presents the methodology for additional studies of DCVT during SPEFs, including arc faults.

This paper explores the impact of the burgeoning electric vehicle (EV) presence on distribution grid operations, highlighting the challenges they present to conventional pricing strategies due to their dual role as power consumers and suppliers, coupled with their energy storage capabilities. We propose an advanced real-time pricing model for the electricity market, employing a novel distributed bilevel optimization framework. This framework distinguishes between the distribution system operator (DSO) at the upper level and the EVs at the lower level, each aiming to optimize profit margins. The optimization includes power flow constraints at the upper level to ensure efficient operation within safe system limits, while model predictive control (MPC) is used to optimize lower-level EV responses. Additionally, we provide a rigorous convergence analysis of the proposed bilevel optimization method. Detailed convergence studies and simulation results demonstrate the effectiveness and superiority of the proposed algorithm. © 2024 IEEE.

In this paper, we enhance a distributed version of the well known k-means algorithm with privacy-preservation features. While ensuring that sensitive or confidential information remains undisclosed to unauthorized entities (in our case these entities are curious nodes within the network), we maintain the desirable features of the distributed algorithm: the transmitted values are quantized, which optimizes bandwidth utilization and alleviates communication bottlenecks, and nodes possess the ability to collectively determine when to terminate the algorithm, which enables the conservation of valuable resources. We introduce a novel privacy-preserving protocol that not only preserves the privacy of a node's state, but it also ensures confidentiality about its cluster affiliation (i.e., it does not reveal to curious nodes whether a node participates in the update calculation for a specific centroid value). Moreover, we precisely characterize topological conditions that guarantee privacy preservation for individual nodes. Our distributed algorithm allows the formation of exclusive clusters within a finite time frame on any static and strongly connected directed graph. © 2023 IEEE.

Gait analysis can provide relevant information about the physical and neurological conditions of individuals. For this reason, several studies have recently been carried out in an attempt to monitor people's gait and automatically detect gait anomalies. Among the various monitoring systems available for gait analysis, wearable sensors are considered the gold standard due to their wide capture range and low cost. However, in the case of people that require assistive devices for walking, some studies have proposed the use of sensorized devices in order to minimize invasiveness. Nevertheless, there is still a lack of comparative works that evaluate the performance of sensorized assistive devices for walking with widely used wearable sensors. Hence, this paper presents a comparison between the performance of accelerometer-based wearable sensors and a sensorized tip developed by the authors to detect gait anomalies. The comparative study has been carried out in a controlled environment with five healthy subjects, in which three different physical states have been simulated. A machine-learning based anomaly detection approach has been implemented based on the data captured by a set of wearable sensors and the sensorized tip, and the overall performance of both monitoring systems has been evaluated. Results show that even if both devices can provide an average accuracy of more than 80% in gait anomaly detection, the sensorized tip provides better performance.

In this proposal, a predictive control scheme is considered for PMSG based wind turbine system in order to maximize power extraction. The main goal is to maintain the turbine tip-speed ratio (and consequently the power coefficient) at its optimal point and regulate the PMSG rotor speed in reaction to the variation of wind speed. The control of generator speed is done by employing a generalized predictive controller. This regulator by taking advantage of the predictive feature can prepare the generator to react to the upcoming wind in advance and consequently increases the efficiency of the turbine. Also, it has been demonstrated that this controller enhances the transient response of the system compared to the conventional methods. The proposed controller has been validated through Matlab/Simulink and an experimental test bench.

We propose a feasibility condition for reference governors that are used to tune the behavior of a reference-tracking explicit model predictive controller. Governors allow for a simple tuning of existing controllers without modifying them. However, since properties like feasibility are often not accounted for by the governors, their applicability may be limited. We prove that feasibility can be guaranteed using information about the explicit solution, and demonstrate the resulting algorithm by controlling the flow rate in a laboratory-scale hydraulic plant.

During crises where both communication networks and the electricity grid break down, restoring each individual infrastructure for disaster relief becomes generally infeasible. To tackle this challenge, we propose a disaster management solution using mobile ad-hoc networks (MANETs) formed by unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), offering a promising solution for emergency response. Apart from establishing emergency communications for rescue teams, UAV-enabled MANETs can also enable the formation of electrical microgrids based on distributed energy resources (DER) to locally restore the electric power. We determine the optimal locations and the number of UAVs for this purpose, taking the UAVs' needs for repeated recharging into account. The problem is formulated on a discrete grid of potential places as a mixed-integer linear program (MILP) and solved via an accelerated feasibility query algorithm (FQA). The framework is evaluated for a toy-example and a modified version of the IEEE 123 node test feeder. Simulation results show that compared with conventional MILP approaches, the proposed FQA algorithm can significantly lower the computation times, particularly for large scale MANETs. © 2022 IEEE.

Improving the reliability of medium voltage distribution networks (6–10 $\text{kV}$ in Russia) remains a relevant task. One of the means of improving the reliability and observability of distribution zones is equipping them with innovative compact current and voltage sensors. Automated power control and metering station (APCMS) for 6–10 $\text{kV}$ , using a Rogowski coil with a split-core design as a current sensor, have been developed in collaboration between Ivanovo State Power engineering University (ISPU) and an industrial partner. This paper presents the construction of the current sensor, as well as its new improved version using a ferromagnetic shield. The results of simulation in the Comsol Multiphysics software and error estimation of current conversion depending on the current conductor displacement are provided. Recommendations on the material for the sensor shield are given.
