The data set of batch biological and biotechnological processes can be organized in a three-way data matrix. In this paper the usefulness of different PCA approaches for monitoring is analyzed. Different ways of unfolding and scaling of data have been applied to a pilot-scale SBR data. PCA is used to reduce the dimensionality and to remove the non-linearity dynamic of the data. Moreover, a new method to select the number of principal components is proposed. Loadings graphics are used to determinate the predominant variables for each one. The results show that whatever model can be applied depending on the goal of the monitoring, however the models implicate possible false alarms or faults omission.

Repetitive peripheral magnetic stimulation ( RPMS ) is an innovative approach in treatment of central paresis, e.g. after stroke, by inducing muscle contractions and relaxations. The therapeutic effect can be increased by a closed loop control to induce coordinated movements in the forearm and the fingers. An appropriate model of muscle contractions induced by RPMS provides the basis for the controler design. In the presented paper a model based on a Hammerstein–structure for the contraction of the biceps brachii will be established. This model also builds the basis for a nonlinear system identification which is used to individualize the model to a single subject.

We discuss the development of a demonstration diagnosis workbench system for this complex, data intensive, diagnosis application that must be operated as a distributed 'virtual organisation'. We describe the core diagnosis applications that have been implemented as grid services, and explain how these services are being deployed within the overall diagnosis process

The majority of recent works on robust MPC either require very burdensome online computations or are restricted to relatively small feasible regions. This paper builds on a recent work which demonstrated that one could compute the maximal admissible set for a linear parameter varying system and shows how this set can be used as the terminal region and hence allows the definition of an MPC algorithm requiring only quadratic programming, but with a maximal region of attraction and guaranteed convergence for the robust case.

The full-bridge converter with current-doublet synchronous rectifier (FB-CDSR) is a promising topology to implement low-voltage high-current power supplies. This paper proposes a novel control for this converter, which provides the following features: fast transient response, fixed switching frequency, and high robustness against large-signal disturbances in the input-voltage and the load-current. Furthermore, this controller avoids the use of any current sensor and can be implemented by means of cheap analog circuits, which highlights its low-cost and simplicity. The parallel operation of several HB-CDSR is also discussed Finally, experimental results are provided in order to show the validity of the proposed control technique
