Use of Virtual Reality to Facilitate Engineer Training in the Aerospace Industry

This work concerns automation of the training process, using modern information technologies, including virtual reality (VR). The starting point is an observation that automotive and aerospace industries require effective methods of preparation of engineering personnel. In this context, the technological process of preparing operations of a CNC numerical machine has been extracted. On this basis, a dedicated virtual reality environment, simulating manufacturing of a selected aircraft landing gear component, was created. For a comprehensive analysis of the pros and cons of the proposed approach, four forms of training, involving a physical CNC machine, a physical simulator, a software simulator, and the developed VR environment were instantiated. The features of each training form were analysed in terms of their potential for industrial applications. A survey, using the Net Promoter Score method, was also conducted among a target group of engineers, regarding the potential of use of each training form. As a result, the advantages and disadvantages of all four training forms were captured. Renewable energy is essential for humanity to decrease fossil fuel usage and reduce GHG emissions. There are several Renewable Energy Sources (RESs) available including solar, wind, biomass, tidal, wave, and geothermal;among them, wind energy is regarded as one of the most dependable. Thus, forecasting wind speed is essential for energy production companies or prosumers to determine potential wind energy production, however, this forecasting process is significantly complex. Several approaches have been found in the literature, including Temporal Convolutional Network (TCN), GRUs, and LSTM. Also, the self-attention mechanism is quite essential to support other models by reducing the dependency on external information and analyzing input and hidden features information provides better result. Therefore, this research aims to forecast wind speed from historical seasonal data by proposing a Temporal Convolutional Attention Network (TCAN) based on self-attention and comparing it with LSTM-Attention (LSTMA) and GRU-Attention (GRUA). More specifically, to evaluate the proposed TCAN model results, LSTMA and GRUA using self-attention are constructed and the efficiency of each model is explained and compared based on MAE, RMSE, and MAPE values. To conduct the analysis, a case study is chosen for the analysis in Bangladesh named Hatia Island which is also a coastal area. NASA POWER dataset is utilized for a period of 12 months. TCAN provides improved outcomes compared to LSTMA and GRUA throughout the summer, fall, late autumn, winter, and spring seasons, whereas GRUA demonstrates somewhat higher performance in the rainy season. © 2024 IEEE.

Chimera-inspired dynamics: When higher-order interactions are expressed differently

The exploration of chimera-inspired dynamics in nonlocally coupled networks of Kuramoto oscillators with higher-order interactions is still in its nascent stages. Concurrently, the investigation of collective phenomena in higher-order interaction networks is gaining attraction. Here, we observe that hypergraph networks tend to synchronize through lower-order interactions, whereas simplicial complex networks exhibit a preference for higher-order interactions. This observation suggests that higher-order representations manifest substantial differences in chimera-inspired synchronization regions. Moreover, we introduce an explicit expression for identifying the chimera state. With a comprehensive basin stability analysis and the interplay of pairwise and higher-order interaction strengths, the emergence of the chimera state is inherent in high-order interaction networks. Our findings contribute to the understanding of chimera-inspired dynamics in higher-order interaction networks.

This paper describes the ECO-LÓGICA prototype, a useful tool for the decision-making process related to air pollution. The ECO-LÓGICA system can generate a wide range of reports, including those based on real data collected through the monitoring of carbon dioxide emissions. Additionally, it employs a specialized neural network to predict future air pollution values resulting from these emissions. The performance of the prototype was validated using data supplied by three Colombian environmental monitoring stations. The applied metrics reach values close to the maximums, demonstrating adequate performance. © 2024 IEEE.

Stereo vision plays a crucial role in scientific expeditions and facility maintenance. However, fixed-baseline stereo vision lacks accuracy for long-distance measurements, while wide-baseline stereo vision encounters occlusion issues at short distances. In this study, a wide-baseline stereo matching based on multi-view geometric constraints is proposed. Initially, the camera poses of multiple wide-baseline images are estimated, followed by image rectification and depth estimation. Subsequently, the disparity searching is constrained using geometric relationships among the views, resulting in more precise depth maps. Experiments were conducted to verify the superiority of the proposed method. The results indicate that the proposed method achieves an RMSE as low as 0.15 meters, even with invalid depth points. Compared to traditional stereo vision methods, accuracy is improved by approximately 35%, and robustness is significantly enhanced. In the aircraft runway scenario, overall depth map accuracy is higher, and occluded areas are significantly reduced. © 2024 IEEE.

Due to serious harm of triethylamine（TEA） to environmental safety and human health, it is significant to synthesize gas-sensitive materials with high performance for TEA detection. However, it is still a challenge to achieve high-sensitivity detection of TEA at low temperature for a sensor synthesized through an economical and efficient method. In this work, hollow-structured SnO2（HS-SnO2） nanospheres have been fabricated by a facile, low-cost hydrothermal method in one step, which exhibit superior TEA-sensing properties, including not only ultrahigh response（127.75） for 100 ppm TEA, good selectivity, but also fast response and recovery time（17/28 s）, low detection threshold（1 ppm） and robust stability at a relatively low optimum operational temperature of 225°*** excellent gas-sensitizing performances are ascribed to porous hollow structures with rich oxygen vacancies that provide abundant active sites for raising O2adsorption and reaction of TEA and oxygen species. This work offers an effective and economical strategy for fabricating high-performance TEA sensors for industrial applications.

This paper presents a distributed scheme with limited communications, aiming to achieve cooperative motion control for multiple omnidirectional mobile manipulators(MOMMs).The proposed scheme extends the existing single-agent motion control to cater to scenarios involving the cooperative operation of MOMMs. Specifically, squeeze-free cooperative load transportation is achieved for the end-effectors of MOMMs by incorporating cooperative repetitive motion planning(CRMP), while guiding each individual to desired poses. Then, the distributed scheme is formulated as a time-varying quadratic programming(QP) and solved online utilizing a noise-tolerant zeroing neural network(NTZNN). Theoretical analysis shows that the NTZNN model converges globally to the optimal solution of QP in the presence of noise. Finally, the effectiveness of the control design is demonstrated by numerical simulations and physical platform experiments.

The implementation of carbon capture and storage in the petrochemical industry is one of the means of *** research focuses on a comprehensive technical analysis of the deployment of post-combustion carbon capture and storage based on monoethanolamine absorption in the petrochemical *** olefin complex petrochemical industry in Tuban,Indonesia,is the basis for the analysis,which includes a steam cracker,polyethylene,polypropylene,and raw pyrolysis gasoline hydrotreating units,with capacities of 1000,940,600,and 570 kilotons/year,*** total energy consumption is about 16024.53 GJ/h,and the CO_(2) emissions are about 1.6 megatons/*** on these plant systems,comprehensive technical analyses of the implementation of carbon capture and storage in that industry were performed using Aspen HYSYS®simulation *** analysis was carried out to determine the total CO_(2) captured,energy intensity,monoethanolamine consumption,and net CO_(2) captured in various scenarios based on the number of absorber column stages,absorption pressure,and desorption *** CO_(2) storage site is about 100 km away and is transported by an onshore pipeline with a supercritical phase of CO_(2).The optimal net CO_(2) capture value is achieved by setting up a 50-stage absorber column with a pressure of 1 barg and a temperature of 110℃ at the top of the desorber column,resulting in a CO_(2) capture yield of 86.4%and an energy intensity of 12.6 GJ/ton CO_(2).Under these conditions,the net CO_(2) captured in the scenario based on gas power plants’electricity is 0.225 megatons/year,while in the scenario based on gas power plants incorporating 30%biomass electricity,it is 0.544 megatons/*** increased use of renewable energy in carbon capture and storage facilities,more net CO_(2) is *** study can be applied to various cases of post-combustion carbon capture and storage implementation in the industrial sector,especially in the
