A wide bandwidth CMOS realization of high performance dual output second generation (CCIIplusmn) and third generation (CCIIIplusmn) current conveyors are presented. Both second and third generation current conveyors have the advantages of a wide current and voltage bandwidths, controlled intrinsic resistances at port X, Y and Z. We have developed an optimization program, thanks to Heuristic methodology that is used for optimal sizing regarding static and dynamic performance. PSPICE simulation show that the current and voltage bandwidths are respectively 1.5806 GHz and 6.506 GHz, and 454.11 Omega as R X input port resistance for a control current of 100 muA. CCIIplusmn is a useful building block for analog circuits, especially for application requiring dual outputs. The proposed circuit is able of operating at voltage supply (plusmn2.5V), with reduced power consumption. A frequency characterization of the proposed CCIIplusmn is given, this CCIIplusmn is characterized by low values for its parasitic input resistance (454.11 Omega). In this paper, we present a versatile multi-input multi-output controlled filter configuration. Either a three-input single output or single-input double-output universal filter can be realized. The proposed circuits offer the following advantageous features: realization of current-mode low-pass and band-pass filter responses from the same configuration, employing only three current conveyors and four grounded passive elements. In order to implement a current controlled Radiofrequency active filter, we use a translinear configuration for both second and third generation current conveyors. The proposed implementation exhibiting a current controlled intrinsic resistances at port X, Y and Z allow a control of the cut-off frequency. The cut-off frequency of the low pass filter can be attend 1.64 GHz and the central frequency of the band pass filter can be attend 1.13 GHz. Simulation results are in good accordance with theoretical ones. PSPICE

Shear thinning behavior of monolayer liquid lubricant films measured by fiber wobbling method

It is essential to clarify mechanical properties of monolayer lubricant films coated on magnetic disks under shearing motion for designing future hard disk drives with ultra-low flying height. Many of previous researchers reported that strong shear rate dependence of viscoelasticity was one of the typical phenomena observed with molecularly thin liquid films. However, it has not been clarified whether or not perfluoropolyether (PFPE) lubricant films, which are used for the head-disk interface (HDI) lubrication, show shear thinning behavior under actual HDI conditions. In this study, we used the fiber wobbling method that can achieve both highly-sensitive shear force measurement and precise gap control and measured shear rate dependence of viscoelastic properties of monolayer PFPE films coated on the magnetic disk. Our experimental results showed that shear thinning does occur at high shear rate ranged from 102 to 106 s−1.

A new sampling criterion for the linear canonical transform (LCT) was recently proposed by the authors. This criterion was based on an analysis of the consequences of sampling the LCT of a discrete signal. Previous LCT sampling work in the literature considered only sampling the LCT of continuous, band limited signals. This analysis has great significance for numerical simulations of first order optical systems using the LCT, as these simulations must necessarily consider a sampled input function, and evaluate only a sampled output function. It is also significant for the analysis of periodic structures such as gratings. We present a review of this new sampling criterion and the associated analysis. We clarifying its meaning and consider its applications. In particular, we consider the consequences of the analysis for fast LCT algorithms, and for the use of the discrete Fresnel transform in digital holography. We conclude that the spectral method of calculating Fresnel transforms may benefit greatly from recent advances to LCT sampling theory. © 2009 SPIE.

An on-farm irrigation trial conducted on the upland of Chitwan valley of Nepal evaluated the amount and frequency of irrigation as well as the effect of nitrogen fertilizer and straw mulch applications on the performance of bottle gourd and okra vegetables. The experiment was laid out on split-split-plot design with fertilizer as main-plot factor, frequencies of irrigation as sub-plot factor, and amount of irrigation as sub-sub-plot factor. Data analysis revealed that frequency and amount of irrigation had a significant interaction effect on the number of nodes that emerge before the opening of the first flower in bottle gourd. Likewise, a significant effect of mulching was observed on the number of primary branches (P = 0.05). Number of nodes and primary branches both contributed to higher production of bottle gourd. Results also indicated that frequent application of higher amount of irrigation to bottle gourd could lead to reduced water productivity and suffer from yield losses. In the case of okra, low level of nitrogen application (30 kg N ha-1) with low but daily watering had significantly higher yield (1,365 g plot-1) than from higher level of nitrogen application (90 kg ha-1) (P = 0.01). Interaction effect of all factors was also significant (P = 0.05) on the fruit yield of okra which implied greater value of smaller irrigation to contribute to increased returns to farmers by improving production level of okra in this area of Nepal © Springer Science+Business Media B.V. 2009.

This paper proposes a method to compute sub-optimal control strategies of discrete time large-scale non-linear systems by fuzzy logic controllers. The method is based on the principle of decomposition of the global system into inter-connected subsystems. We consider that the non-linearities are located in the interconnections terms. Then, a mixed method of coordination procedure between different subsystems is formulated. So, for each subsystem, local optimal feedback gains are expressed as a function of the interconnection vector. Within this approach, first order Tkagi-Sugeno fuzzy logic systems have been constructed in order to identify these gains. Simulation results of a rotary crane show the effectiveness of the method and the robustness of the proposed approach.

The effectiveness of Intelligent Transportation systems (ITS) depends on their ability to collect contextual data from various sources and appropriately generate and transport comprehensible, reliable and timely content to users. In such applications, the exchanged content is structured in space and time. Peer-to-peer(P2P) networks are the natural choice these applications due to their fault-tolerance, self-organization and scalability properties. However, a closer analysis of the available Distributed Hash Tables (DHT) protocols shows that the structure of the data gets lost and its short liveness leads to high signalling traffic. In this work we propose a novel overlay network of so called Space Containers for storing, accessing, manipulating and structuring dynamic geo-located content. The benefits of combining Space Containers and DHT are: clean application programming logic and efficient content retrieval while preserving the properties of DHTs. We describe the system architecture applied to a transportation scenario and show preliminary evaluation results.

This paper presents an optimal fuzzy logic controller design using optimization techniques. The fuzzy logic controller (FLC) has been developed and implemented for the motion of the robot from an initial position towards another desired position, taking into account the kinematic constraints. First, we have carried out a simulation of a fuzzy logic based controller which determines the speed values of each driving wheel, while seeking the goal. Secondly, an optimization of this controller has been realized using gradient method and genetic algorithms. A comparison between these methods has been effected. Not only simulation results are shown in this paper, but the ldquoreal-timerdquo implementation has been realized onto the mini robot Khepera II. Simulation results verify successfully the application of the proposed method to real motion situations.

This paper presents a design method of robust fuzzy PID controller for discrete-time uncertain nonlinear systems. The Takagi-Sugeno fuzzy model with parameter uncertainties is employed to describe discrete-time uncertain nonlinear system with bounded uncertainties. A robust pole placement called pole coloring is used to control each local model. Controller parameters are determined through cost function minimization by an optimization procedure. Closed-loop system's poles are chosen according to desired performance. The global controller is obtained by local control inference. Finally, two examples are treated to illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed design method.

This paper develops a new control approach to position synchronization of multiple robot manipulators based on emergent consensus algorithms. The proposed strategy only requires local neighbor-to-neighbor information exchange between manipulators and does not assume the existence of any explicit leaders in the team. The control strategy is to stabilise position tracking of each manipulator while synchronizing its motion with other manipulator's position motion so that differential position errors amongst robots converge to zero. Simulations conducted on a multi-robots manipulators motion control system demonstrate the effectiveness of the method.
