Human language is full of compositional syntactic structures, and although neural networks have contributed to groundbreaking improvements in computer systems that process language, widely-used neural network architectures still exhibit limitations in their ability to process syntax. To address this issue, prior work has proposed adding stack data structures to neural networks, drawing inspiration from theoretical connections between syntax and stacks. However, these methods employ deterministic stacks that are designed to track one parse at a time, whereas syntactic ambiguity, which requires a nondeterministic stack to parse, is extremely common in language. In this dissertation, we remedy this discrepancy by proposing a method of incorporating nondeterministic stacks into neural networks. We develop a differentiable data structure that efficiently simulates a nondeterministic pushdown automaton, representing an exponential number of computations with a dynamic programming algorithm. Since it is differentiable end-to-end, it can be trained jointly with other neural network components using standard backpropagation and gradient descent. We incorporate this module into two predominant architectures: recurrent neural networks (RNNs) and transformers. We show that this raises their formal recognition power to arbitrary context-free languages, and also aids training, even on deterministic context-free languages. Empirically, neural networks with nondeterministic stacks learn context-free languages much more effectively than prior stack-augmented models, including a language with theoretically maximal parsing difficulty. We also show that an RNN augmented with a nondeterministic stack is capable of surprisingly powerful behavior, such as learning cross-serial dependencies, a well-known non-context-free pattern. Multi-robot systems can provide substantial increase in efficiency and/or flexibility in different scenarios. Applications in various settings have been studied in the literature, such as disaster management, surveillance, object transportation as well as search-and-rescue. A particular case that can highly benefit from the employment of multiple agents is the logistics in a warehouse scenario. This work proposes an multi-agent Q-learning based algorithm with curriculum learning and transfer learning to perform the path planning process. With progressively more complex stages of training as well as knowledge transfer from one stage to another, the algorithm is capable of achieve high success rates. In order to validate the proposed method, simulations were done to compare it to other combinations of the used techniques, as well as using Q-learning only. Scalability tests were also performed. The proposed method achieved up to 94% success rate after training. © 2023 IEEE.

As the dengue infection still impacts hundreds of millions of people globally, unprecedented efforts in dengue drug development have been more progressive in recent decades. Computational methods provide a fast, sustainable, and efficient screening of active compounds and newly created drug molecules, including those specifically targeting nonstructural proteins (NS) of dengue viruses. In this work, protein modeling for the NS proteins of DENV-2/16681 strain was performed using a template-based homology modeling for the NS3 protein and an Artificial Intelligence (AI)-based prediction via AlphaFold for the NS4B protein. Moreover, the protein-protein interaction between the two structures was predicted using the HADDOCK server, which employs information about active and passive residues of the interaction interface to guide the docking process. After the modeling and its respective refinement process, the predicted structures of NS3 and NS4B improved their steric clashing scoring from MolProbity assessment. The refined models were then docked, and the resulting docking pose was analyzed to extract the interacting residues based on the polar contacts within the interface of the two proteins. Our result presents a preliminary study to create a dataset related to in silico molecular interactions of the NS3-NS4B interaction of different DENV types. It is helpful for building a computational pipeline for elucidating protein-ligand problems in dengue drug screenings. © 2024 The Authors.

This paper explores the development of a multilabel machine learning system for predicting both gender and age from human gait patterns. Gait analysis, a non-intrusive method of identifying subtle nuances in human movement, has proven to be a rich source of information related to demographic characteristics. The research extends beyond traditional single-label classification approaches, adopting a multilabel framework to simultaneously predict gender and age *** study evaluates various multilabel machine learning algorithms, with the Random k-labeLsets (RAKEL) algorithm demonstrating superior performance in predicting gender and age labels from human gait datasets. The accuracy of the algorithm can reach up to 87%. We also compared the multilabel approach with several multiclass algorithms such as Decision Tree, Random Forest, Gradient Boosting, K-Neighbors and XGBoost. However, when we also considering the training time, Classifier Chain algorithm showed the best trade off with the accuracy of 86% and the training time is twice faster than the RAKEL algorithm. © 2024 IEEE.

Currently, online project-based learning is one of the methodologies used in university student assessment. Furthermore, this study is supported by several factors and current conditions applied to learning, such as the pandemic situation where all learning activities and assignments are carried out online and also the many applications of online project-based learning as a learning method to increase students' knowledges and abilities. The purpose of this study is to see how flow experience perception, self-efficacy, product evaluation, and learning motivation affect online PjBL effectiveness at a private university in Jakarta to improve sustain ability education. We surveyed 62 active undergraduate students with online PjBL experience and interviewed one of these five responders from various majors for more information. Flow experience perception, self-efficacy, product evaluation, and learning motivation all have a positive influence on online PjBL, according to multiple linier regression. © 2022 IEEE.

In this paper, we consider the problem of semi-uniform deployment for mobile robots in perfect (Figure presented.) -ary trees. This problem requires robots to spread in the tree so that, for some positive integer (Figure presented.) and some fixed integer (Figure presented.), each node of depth (Figure presented.) is occupied by a robot. Robots have an infinite visibility range but are opaque, and each robot can emit a light color visible to itself and other robots, taken from a set of (Figure presented.) colors, at each time step. Then, we clarify the solvability of the semi-uniform deployment problem, focusing on the number of available light colors. First, we consider robots with (Figure presented.). In this setting, we show that there is no collision-free algorithm to solve the problem. Next, relax the number of available light colors, that is, we consider robots with (Figure presented.). In this setting, we propose a collision-free algorithm that can solve the problem. From these results, we can show that the semi-uniform deployment problem can be solved when (Figure presented.), and our proposed algorithm is optimal with respect to the number of used light colors (i.e., 2). © 2022 The Authors. People with hearing loss in this world have not received much serious attention from the authorities. This makes these sufferers confused in choosing learning media to interact with and isolated from their social environment. This application was created to help people with hearing loss to be noticed and understood from the way they communicate using sign language through the mobile application called Assistant for the Deaf, which has many features such as registration, interactive videos, sign language translator, forums, customer service, library, information, history, events, donations, and shops. The application is designed using use case diagrams and class diagrams modeling the database, and the implementation used Android Studio and MySQL database. © 2022 IEEE.

Over the last years, the engine calibration task has mostly been conducted based on the engineers' knowledge. As a result, considering the complexity of modern engines, finding the most suitable configuration for each situation has become an impractical and expensive task. Apart from causing engines to be produced with inadequate calibration configuration, it can also decrease the lifespan of their components, degrading their efficiency. This paper proposes a machine learning-based digital twin model for pressure prediction in a fuel injection system, split into two steps. First, we extract statistical engine features based on a predefined time window to represent the engine behavior over time. Second, a digital twin implemented through a machine learning model is used to predict pressure levels in the fuel injection system. As a result, the predicted values can be used to assist the engine common rail system module in avoiding undesired engine states. Experiments performed on a new dataset, built over a real diesel-based engine, consisting of 208 features and over 1.3 million instances, have shown the feasibility of our proposal. The proposed scheme can predict in an advance time of 0.1 seconds the pressure levels for a fuel injection system with only 0.057 RMSE. Moreover, it increases its error rate by only 10.6% if a 0.5-second time advance is required. © 2022 IEEE.

Referring to solution programs written by other users is helpful for learners in programming education. However, current online judge systems just list all solution programs submitted by users for references, and the programs are sorted based on the submission date and time, execution time, or user rating, ignoring to what extent the programs can be helpful to be referenced. In addition, users struggle to refer to a variety of solution approaches since there are too many duplicated and near-duplicated programs. To motivate learners to refer to various solutions to learn better solution approaches, in this paper, we propose an approach to deduplicate and rank common solution programs in each programming problem. Inspired by the nature that the many-duplicated program adopts a more common approach and can be a general reference, we remove the near-duplicated solution programs and rank the unique programs based on the duplicate count. The experiments on the solution programs submitted to a real-world online judge system demonstrate that the number of programs is reduced by 60.20%, whereas the baseline only reduces by 29.59% after the deduplication, meaning that users only need to refer to 39.80% of programs on average. Furthermore, our analysis shows that top-10 ranked programs cover 29.95% of programs on average, indicating that users can grasp 29.95% of solution approaches by referring to only 10 programs. The proposed approach shows the potential of reducing the learners’ burden of referring to too many solutions and motivating them to learn a variety of solution approaches.

To model the periodicity of beats, state-of-the-art beat tracking systems use 'post-processing trackers' (PPTs) that rely on several empirically determined global assumptions for tempo transition, which work well for music with a steady tempo. For expressive classical music, however, these assumptions can be too rigid. With two large datasets of Western classical piano music, namely the Aligned Scores and Performances (ASAP) dataset and a dataset of Chopin's Mazurkas (Maz-5), we report on experiments showing the failure of existing PPTs to cope with local tempo changes, thus calling for new methods. In this paper, we propose a new local periodicity-based PPT, called predominant local pulse-based dynamic programming (PLPDP) tracking, that allows for more flexible tempo transitions. Specifically, the new PPT incorporates a method called 'predominant local pulses' (PLP) in combination with a dynamic programming (DP) component to jointly consider the locally detected periodicity and beat activation strength at each time instant. Accordingly, PLPDP accounts for the local periodicity, rather than relying on a global tempo assumption. Compared to existing PPTs, PLPDP particularly enhances the recall values at the cost of a lower precision, resulting in an overall improvement of F1-score for beat tracking in ASAP (from 0.473 to 0.493) and Maz-5 (from 0.595 to 0.838). © 2014 IEEE.
