Semi-supervised learning has been an important approach to address challenges in extracting entities and relations from limited data. However, current semi-supervised works handle the two tasks (i.e., Named Entity Recognition and Relation Extraction) separately and ignore the cross-correlation of entity and relation instances as well as the existence of similar instances across unlabeled data. To alleviate the issues, we propose Jointprop, a Heterogeneous Graph-based Propagation framework for joint semi-supervised entity and relation extraction, which captures the global structure information between individual tasks and exploits interactions within unlabeled data. Specifically, we construct a unified span-based heterogeneous graph from entity and relation candidates and propagate class labels based on confidence scores. We then employ a propagation learning scheme to leverage the affinities between labelled and unlabeled samples. Experiments on benchmark datasets show that our framework outperforms the state-of-the-art semi-supervised approaches on NER and RE tasks. We show that the joint semi-supervised learning of the two tasks benefits from their codependency and validates the importance of utilizing the shared information between unlabeled data. © 2023, CC BY.

We propose a semantic template-based distributed representation for the convolutional neural network called Semantic Template-based Convolutional Neural Network (STCNN) for text categorization that imitates the perceptual behavior of human comprehension. STCNN is a highly automatic approach that learns semantic templates that characterize a domain from raw text and recognizes categories of documents using a semantic-infused convolutional neural network that allows a template to be partially matched through a statistical scoring system. Our experiment results show that STCNN effectively classifies documents in about 140,000 Chinese news articles into predefined categories by capturing the most prominent and expressive patterns and achieves the best performance among all compared methods for Chinese topic classification. In the rapidly evolving field of Augmented Reality (AR), delivering real-time, immersive experiences places a significant demand on computational resources, particularly in the context of video-based Artificial Intelligence (AI) inference tasks. Some solutions explorate optimize the tasks using the potential of Mobile Edge Computing (MEC), in which MEC brings the advantages of reduced latency and network congestion, which are critical for AR systems. In this work, we designed a novel algorithm named AR-MEC Optimization for the distribution of AI inference tasks among edge servers while considering several factors including task complexity, server capacity, and network conditions. Our approach not only ensures low-latency responses but also improves overall system efficiency and the user's Quality of Experience (QoE). Experimental results demonstrate that our unified approach significantly outperforms traditional cloud-based methods in terms of response time and computational efficiency, thereby highlighting the potential of MEC-assisted AR systems for real-world applications. © 2023 University of Split, FESB.

This paper describes the implementation and evaluation of an RC polyphase filter (RCPF) and circuitry for measuring its frequency characteristics. The integrated circuit is fabricated on a 0.6 µm CMOS process and its supply voltage is 5 V. The integrated circuit includes a filter under test (FUT), a four-phase square wave generator, several analog switches and differential amplifiers to amplify the high-impedance signals of the RCPF. This FUT is a third-order complex RCPF whose passband is 8 − 40 MHz. This paper describes the design of these circuits in detail. This integrated circuit can select two measurement methods by means of external control signals. The first method uses a four-phase square wave. The frequency characteristics are measured by using an on-chip four-phase square wave generator driven by an external clock generator and by a spectrum analyzer tuned to the fundamental frequency. The second method uses an external network analyzer. Furthermore, this integrated circuit is equipped with a calibration circuit to measure the frequency characteristics of the circuitry except FUT by passing through the input / output signals of the FUT. As a result, the frequency characteristics of the FUT itself can be accurately measured. The effectiveness is confirmed through evaluation of the fabricated integrated circuit. © 2025 The Institute of Electrical Engineers of Japan.

Injectable Platelet-Rich Fibrin in Contact with Bone Substitutes, Porous Zirconia, or Laser-Textured Implant Surfaces: A Detailed Morphological Analysis

The aim of the present study was to perform a detailed morphological analysis of an injectable platelet rich fibrin after combination with two different particulate hydroxyapatite-based granules, a porous zirconia block, and laser-textured zirconia or titanium surfaces. Blood samples were harvested from three participants to prepare the flowable injectable PRF in contact or not with particulate hydroxyapatite (Hap), bone mineral granules (DBBM), porous zirconia blocks, laser-textured titanium or zirconia surfaces. Optical and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) were used to evaluate the fibrin network density, fibrin fibers’ diameter, blood cells, and the interaction of PRF with the biomaterials. Histomorphometry of the flowable PRF was also performed using the hematoxylin–eosin staining protocol. Specimens were independently evaluated by two blinded and well-trained researchers in histomorphometry and microscopy. Particulate Hap and DBBM shown different morphological aspects by SEM analyses since DBBM revealed macro- and micro-scale pores while Hap revealed a dense structure. Hydroxyapatite and DBBM granules were entirely embedded by the fibrin-network in the presence of leukocytes and blood platelets. The zirconia porous structured was filled with PRF and its components. Also, the laser-structured zirconia or implant surfaces were entirely coated with the PRF fibrin network embedding leukocytes and blood platelets. Laser-textured titanium surfaces revealed macro- and micro-scale irregularities that increase the surface area and retention of the injectable PRF. Histomorphometric analyses revealed complementary details on the distribution of lymphocytes, red blood cells, and fibrin associated with platelet aggregation. Physician scheduling is a critical task that impacts the quality of patient care, staff satisfaction, and operational efficiency in healthcare institutions. The traditional approach to physician scheduling is manual and time-consuming, which can result in errors, staff burnout, and suboptimal schedules. To address these challenges, researchers have turned to optimization techniques like CSP, which has shown promise in solving physician scheduling problems. This paper reviews the existing literature on CSP for physician scheduling and highlights the benefits and limitations of this approach. CSP's benefits include generating schedules quickly and efficiently, incorporating complex constraints and preferences, and handling changes and disruptions in real time. However, CSP also has some limitations, such as the need for a formalized model and the fact that it may not always generate the most intuitive schedules. Overall, the findings suggest that CSP is a promising approach to physician scheduling that can produce high-quality schedules while minimizing staff burnout and improving operational efficiency.

Immersive learning has gained significant attention with the rising trend of spatial computing, particularly in the after-pandemic era. Numerous research has explored the potential of immersive learning in higher education, primarily on the educational sector. However, prior research has frequently focused too narrowly on the effects of technology and neglected to address the crucial element influencing successful immersive learning in higher education. This study seeks to pinpoint the crucial element contributing to the development of immersive learning experiences. The methodology uses a systematic literature review (SLR) from 2018 up to 2023 to investigate the critical factors of immersive Learning in Higher Education. From the 728 papers initially retrieved, 274 were considered potential candidates, and ultimately, 86 articles were selected based on their relevance to the research question. The results reveal that the critical factors include learning design, technology, immersion, engagement, interactivity, and usability. Academic interests will benefit from this SLR's consequences as institutions create models for designing suitable immersive learning, especially within the context of higher education. © 2023 IEEE.

Wireless communication via unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) has drawn a great deal of attention due to its flexibility in establishing line-of-sight (LoS) communications. However, in complex urban and dynamic environments, the movement of UAVs can be blocked by trees and high-rise buildings that obstruct directional paths. This problem can be effectively addressed by employing reconfigurable intelligent surfaces (RIS). To achieve this goal, accurate channel estimation in RIS-assisted UAV-enabled wireless communications is crucial. This paper proposes an accurate channel estimation model using long short-term memory (LSTM) for a multi-user RIS-assisted UAV-enabled wireless communications system. Simulation results showed that LSTM can effectively improve the channel estimation performance of RIS-assisted UAV-enabled wireless communications. © The Institution of engineering & Technology 2023.

The paper presented an intuitive control system using electromyography (EMG) data that is obtained from the Myo gesture control armband. The aim of this study is to enable users to control multiple devices with a single EMG device in an intuitive way. The presented system shows the ability of EMG-based gestures to control Phillips Hue that allow user to control light bulb by simple hand movements. Moreover, the authors also developed new functionalities, which is according to users' preferences, to register gestures. These functions aim to improve the usability and enhance the naturalness of operations. Additionally, unique gestures, which less common in everyday life, is defined to reduce misrecognition when switching between different devices. Furthermore, to achieve reliable and accurate recognition of multiple gestures, the Support Vector Machine (SVM) models is considered to be a machine learning method for training processed EMG data. The experiment results demonstrate significant improvements in user experience and practical applicability in various interactive scenarios. © 2025 IEEE.

Open Wireless Digital Twin: End-to-End 5G Mobility Emulation in O-RAN Framework

This paper presents an end-to-end wireless digital twin platform constructed using open-source software and open data to enhance the evaluation of mobile communication systems. The proposed open wireless digital twin (OWDT) integrates OpenAirInterface (OAI) for 5G NR protocol stack emulation and NVIDIA Sionna RT for high-resolution ray tracing based radio propagation modeling. This integration enables realistic emulation of vehicular mobility scenarios, leveraging real-world geographic and building data to bridge the gap between theoretical simulations and real-world deployments. The platform utilizes ORAN’s Near-RT RIC via OAI FlexRIC to dynamically monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) such as RSRP, MCS, BLER, and throughput in real time. Through extensive evaluation in urban environments, this study demonstrates the validity of the emulation framework, revealing its capability to replicate real-world communication dynamics with high fidelity. The results underscore the potential of OWDT in accelerating wireless system development, reducing experimental costs, and optimizing network configurations. Copyright © 2025, The Authors.
