It is known that the irreversibility field depends largely on the electric field criterion, Ec, for the determination of the critical current density. In addition, it was recently found that the vortex glass-liquid transition field determined by the scaling of current-voltage curves also depended on the range of electric field in the measurement. In this paper the two characteristic fields are measured for a Bi-2223 silver-sheathed tape as a function of the electric field. The obtained result of the irreversibility field is compared with the theoretical result of the flux creep-flow model. Based on the agreement with the theoretical model a standard test method of the irreversibility field is proposed.

We present the fuzzy Bayes predictor (FBP), a hybrid system for the task of monthly electric load forecasting. The FBP is a modification we introduce in the naive Bayes classifier in order to enable it to predict numerical values. We consider three versions of the FBP, each one with a different dependence among the input data: independence, first-order and second-order dependence. For verifying the efficiency of the FBP's prediction, we compare it with two fuzzy systems and two traditional forecasting methods, Box-Jenkins and Winters exponential smoothing.

We propose a new image enlargement method employing a codebook and a fuzzy similarity measure in order to realize simultaneous smoothing and sharpening in image enlargement. In the proposed method, codes (vectors) of a codebook are regarded as fuzzy if-then rules and unknown pixel values on the image are estimated by fuzzy inference. In this inference, fuzzy similarities between input and antecedent parts of the rules are calculated, then the estimation is achieved by taking a center of gravity of consequents. In this paper, experimental results show the superior performance of the proposed method in comparison with other image enlargement techniques.

Dynamical properties of image restoration and hyper-parameter estimation are investigated by means of statistical mechanics. We introduce an exactly solvable model for image restoration and derive the differential equations with respect to macroscopic quantities. From these equations, we evaluate relaxation processes of the system to its equilibrium state in the sense of the Markov chain Monte Carlo (MCMC) method. Our statistical mechanical approach also enables one to investigate the hyper-parameter estimation by means of maximization of marginal likelihood using gradient descent, or the EM algorithm from dynamical point of view.

This paper addresses the problem of robust /spl Hscr//sub /spl infin// filtering for linear discrete-time systems subject to parameter uncertainties in the system state-space model and with multiple time delays in the state variables. The uncertain parameters are supposed to belong to a given convex bounded polyhedral domain. A methodology is developed to design a stable linear filter that assures asymptotic stability and a prescribed /spl Hscr//sub /spl infin// performance for the filtering error, irrespective of the uncertainty and the time delays. The proposed design is given in terms of linear matrix inequalities, which has the advantage in that it can be implemented numerically very efficiently.
