Software development comprises the execution of a variety of tasks, such as bug discovery, finding reusable assets, dependency analysis etc. A better understanding of the task at hand and its surroundings can improve the development performance in general. Software visualizations can support such understanding by addressing different issues according to the necessity of stakeholders. However, knowing which visualizations better fit a given task in progress is not a trivial skill. In this sense, a feature model, intended for organizing the knowledge of a given domain and allowing the reuse of components, can support the identification, categorization and selection of information visualization elements. This work presents an ongoing domain analysis performed for building an information visualization feature model, whose goal is to support the process of choosing and building proper, suitable software visualizations. In Software engineering, context can be understood as the overall set of information used to characterize the situation of an entity. A software system is context-aware if it uses the context to provide relevant information or services to the user. Nowadays, different types of software systems with a profound impact on the user's life can be considered context-aware (e.g., ubiquitous and Internet of Things software systems). Therefore, it is crucial to guarantee that they behave correctly. Software Testing is the primary process for verifying system behavior. Because of the particularities of Context-Aware Software systems (CASS), conventional testing methods are not enough to test such systems. Based on that, we propose CATS#, a technique to support software engineers with the specification of CASS test cases and capture not only the context itself but its variation as well. CATS# is an evolution of the CATS (Context-Aware Test Suite) Design technique. It introduces two relevant evolutions: test case models and a new test template. The test case models were proposed after we searched for context-aware applications through the literature and realized that the context could affect the test process in different manners. The test template was proposed to capture the variation of context by specifying which variation should occur during the test case and when it should occur. We selected one example application to apply our technique, deriving different types of test cases and showing its relevance in these initial steps. © CIbSE 2020.

The evolution of science has been supported by complex computerized infrastructures with growing interest in simulation based experiments. This trend can also be observed in Software engineering. Our capacity of acquiring evidences to describe phenomena of interest in the field allowed the building of in silico models that can virtually replicate feasible software behaviors and improve our capacity of observation. In silico experiments demand additional concerns for its planning. One of them is regarding the scientific workflow conception. This task is not easy and to apply ad-hoc approaches can risky the experiment execution, validity and future replications. Regarding this topic, this paper presents some initial results from our research towards an approach to support the conception of scientific workflows for in silico experiments in Software engineering are presented. © 2010 ACM.

The extreme learning machine (ELM) is known for being a fast learning neural model. This work presents a performance comparison between ELM and the WiSARD weightless neural network model, regarding training and testing times, and classification accuracy as well. The two models were implemented in the same programming language and experiments were carried out on the same hardware environment. By using a group of datasets from the public repositories UCI and Statlog, experimental results shows that the WiSARD presented training times approximately one order of magnitude smaller than ELM, while classification accuracy varied according the number of classes involved. However, while WiSARD's architecture setups were not exhaustively searched, architecture setups for ELM were kept the same as the ones found in the literature as the best for each given dataset. © ESANN 2017 - Proceedings, 25th European Symposium on Artificial Neural Networks, Computational Intelligence and Machine Learning. Experimental studies have been used as a mechanism to acquire knowledge through a scientific approach based on measurement of phenomena in different areas. However it is hard to run such studies when they require models (simulation), produce amount of information, and explore science in scale. In this case, a computerized infrastructure is necessary and constitutes a complex system to be built. In this paper we discuss an experimentation environment that has being built to support large scale experimentation and scientific knowledge management in software engineering.

Many current version control systems use a simple data model that is barely sufficient to manipulate source-code. This simple data model is not sufficient to provide versioning capabilities for software modeling environments, which are strongly focused on analysis and architectural design artifacts. In this work, we introduce a flexible version control system for UML model elements. This version control system, named Odyssey-VCS, deals with the complex data model used by UML-based CASE tools. Moreover, it allows the configuration of both the unit of versioning and unit of comparison for each specific project, respecting the different needs of the diverse development scenarios. The technical literature regarding Model-based Testing (MBT) has several techniques with different characteristics and goals available to be applied in software projects. Besides the lack of information regarding these techniques, they could be applied together in a software project aiming at improving the testing coverage. However, this decision needs to be carefully analyzed to avoid loss of resources in a software project. Based on this scenario, this paper proposes an approach with the purpose of supporting the unique or combined selection of MBT techniques for a given software project considering two aspects: the adequacy level between MBT techniques and the software project characteristics and impact of more than one MBT technique in some testing process variables. At the end, preliminary results of an experimental evaluation are presented.

Speculative Multithreading (SpMT) increases the performance by means of executing multiple threads speculatively to exploit thread-level parallelism. By combining software and hardware approaches, we have improved the capabilities of previous WaveScalar ISA on the basis of Transactional Memory system for the WaveCache Architecture. Threads are extracted at the course of static compiling, and speculatively executed as a thread-level transaction that is supported by extra hardware components, such as Thread-Context-Table (TCT) and Thread-Memory-History (TMH). We have evaluated the SpMT WaveCache with 6 real benchmarks from SPEC, Mediabench and Mibench. On the whole, the SpMT WaveCache outperforms superscalar architecture ranging from 2X to 3X, and great performance gains are achieved over original WaveCache and Transactional WaveCache as well. © 2008 IEEE.

Dynamism of day-to-day activities in organizations is inextricably linked and there is a variety of information, insight and reasoning being processed between people and systems, in carrying out a business process. We argue that flexibility in processes could be managed in real time, using context information collected in the work environment. This paper proposes a context management architecture approach that aims to improve and automate dynamic process adaptation.
